Yes the lasorbs just piggy-back and short runs to diode pins are fine according to prior guidance from Pangolin as an recall. They come in many types depending upon which diode you are pairing them with. I used to just use them on the expensive diodes, but as even cheap diodes are a pain to...

Yeah, same here. I could never get rid of the "wobbly" lines on the Laser Media pattern. I always thought it was just because I wasn't using CT scanners or equiv. The PSU I am using is plenty big enough. It's specifically designed for A/B audio amps up to 400W, so 4A constant on each rail...

Here you need to clarify that you are unlucky with some of the drivers manufactured in 2015 (with open pots). Indeed, some of them had this defect, but having read your post, people may think that all bbe's drivers makes LEDs from laser diodes :) Since then, the design of the driver has been...

Lasorb just piggy backs on the diode pins right? I've never used them. Do they have to be on the diode pins them selves or just close to? I've tried searching a couple times and my phone keeps glitching

I never saw this and had thought my tuning sucked and I could never solve it. Bang. What a difference. ok this is extreme but what if you used separate power supplies or used a supply twice as large as need current wise. Yea I hear you why free is free. Just learning.

Here is a real nugget for the VLA that showed up on Ebay recently. It's a set of ruby laser rods and associated optics that I believe came from Trion Instruments of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Trion was formed in 1961 by Lloyd G. Cross and Don Gillespie specifically to make pulsed ruby lasers. It was...

Definitely! OK, so I am likely wrong about the one set being open loop scanners. Although any set of decent scanners should have lasted longer than those have (assuming they weren't being abused), there could be several things that have gone wonky with them - from tuning issues to power...

Yeah, I do this all the time as I have 1.5 projectors that can't rotate a lumia effect. I never tried to see how slow I could make it go, but I'd probably want to ensure that I was using a DAC with 16 bit resolution to ensure the finest/slowest possible movement in a tightly confined space. ...

Has anyone been able to use galvo slow enough to scan over a lumia piece in place of a rph motor? You could play with dots of color in different by close spaced places on the lumia. And also make linear rather than radial movements. Even reverse. Try a slow beam show. Swami you should call...

Resurrecting an older thread here. It's good to keep newer people on the forum informed. My question though, is what if you have a dual ch amp that ties the ground together via board traces? Curious if it would be better to break the trace on the board and keep the ground isolated to just the...

I have had bad luck with the BBE drivers. When I power mine on, there is a large voltage spike that has turned a couple of my diodes into LEDs. If you go the BBE route... Lasorbs are an absolute must.

Dave was out last time I checked - he was going to do a redesign on them before he stocked back up. Maybe check out BBE / Vladimir / (X-wossee on eBay). He sells a 500mA, 2.5A, and 4A as I recall. They are inexpensive, feature-rich, and reliable in my experience. I have used them in over a...

Thank you, David. I absolutely agree, and I understand that these are nowhere near the caliber of what you've built (they were only $450 brand new), but I do think they're a good platform to learn with. However, the sloppy graphics are a fairly new symptom. Mind you, I've been using these...

Hi Majik, Yeah, this is what you get when you purchase the lower end Chinese projectors. As with many things, you get what you pay for. The good thing about purchasing low end stuff is that you can upgrade it without significant fear of breaking it as you wouldn't loose as much as botching the...

I have 2 Shinp 1.2w RGB projectors that need some TLC. They share a model number but the red modules differ in wavelength and quantity. One has a single 600mw 655nm (at least that's what the sticker says) and the other has 2x 638nm (assuming 300mw x2?). Both of the Green modules are 532nm 100mw...

A friend of mine said something along the lines of "the thing about fulldome" is there's "no frame". He's wrong, black is the frame. They did do some amazing things. I saw about 15 Laserium shows back in the 80s and 90s. The one thing Laserium did vs every single modern show today is "screen" edges. There were none. Since I don't have an analog console at my disposal, I am very careful to avoid edges. Abstracts look great...
