FWIW my plumbing is functional, and hopefully you will grow to love my dry humor, warts and all.

My story with these lasers is long and is all stored here somewhere and everywhere on PL.

I approach things like this. If I want to drive a nail into a piece of wood, i go to the tool box and get a hammer. You on the other hand have a hammer and want to do something with it, you dont know what but gosh darnet you want to do something with it. NOTE: some screws can be driven in with a hammer.

ALSO - I have documentation for these, but I had my own design and there is too much fried brain cells to help you much with your hammers.

here was my hammer - http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...ighlight=cobra

    Ok, so, moving-on..

...HR = High Reflector; OC = Output coupler - you were very close...

I'll let the 'Cap'n' take over from here... PS - you should enjoy THIS THREAD, too...

    I'll go away, now...

PPPorch - please feel free to remove your bio (just delete the entire post)...it is not needed, you were under NO obligation to post it in the first place but I would feel better if you removed it.

The KTP/YAG dual wavelength is only Q switched in KTP mode (There is a motorised mirror just after the intracavity shutter between the rod and the Q switch), so you would probably want to re think the cavity design to give a Q switched output beam for machining.
Doable, but I don't know if the IR OC would result in a stable cavity at the longer cavity length or how well it would stand up to the Q switch.

Possibly easier (unless you really need pulsed YAG) to buy one of those Chinese sealed CO2 tubes, 10.6um so you need specialised optics, but at least the eye wear is cheap.

    Regards, Dan.

    Default Hammer

Laserman532, I deleted the post as you directed. You hit the nail on the head (to continue with your analogy) I have a hammer ( a pretty nice one ) that can smash my fingers or toes severely if not used in a careful manner. Now that I have that hammer, everything looks like a nail. You are correct, I just need to find the right nail.

Thanks again. If you ever do have any plumbing issues, please feel free to ask me.

    Default CO2

I could kick myself as the OR director also was getting rid of the old CO2 laser and I told him I didn't need it. That would have been an easy conversion. I think I am hearing that my idea of a laser etcher with what I have is just not practice. Laserman532 had a wonderful analogy in that I now have a hammer. The problem is that everything looks like a nail to me. I am just happy I was able to convert it to work on my home 240 volt circuit and that I have a functioning laser. I can see that I have a lot to learn in how to use my new Hammer and need to be smart about what I do with it. Hammers just are not the right tool to fix watches. I think I will just hang here and try and absorb some knowledge. This is a wonderful forum. I really appreciate everyone trying to help me and make sure I stay safe.

Have you considered removing vaginal warts in your spare time? (inside joke) (these machines (medical laserscopes) are commonly referred to Vag Burners)

    Default Vag Burner

When it comes to warts, I leave the lady stuff up to the OB/GYN but I do deal with men with warts. I have always used a CO2 laser as the penetration is so shallow, I can control what I take off with a lot of precision. I guess in some ways, it was destiny for a urologist, who loves tech and toys would end up with a Vag burner.

It kind of reminds me of a time I spent the night in a firehall with my brother in law. He was the assistant chief of the FD in Charlottesville (Where I met my wife and went to graduate school). The only run we made was a medic type run and the guy we brought out of the house had prostate cancer.. I just can't escape.

Now that I have a couple of Vag burners, everything looks like........ never mind.

These days a lot of machining for semiconductors and solar cells and other high tech stuff is done with green.. Copper is machined with green...

PPP has one problem, because he is a MD, every thing you'd ever want to find out about him is already all over the place, and much of it probably false.
