Post [Review] LSX and TouchOSC [Tutorial]

Hello PL this will be my first Review/Tutorial so please leave your feedback

    Review:

TouchOSC, An app for the iOS devices AND Android that allows you to speak to devices that supports OSC or Midi. The app is laid out nicely and is very easy to understand.
You can create custom templates/GUI's for your device and the only limit is your imagination on how you want the layout to be!
The app is $5 usd in the appstore/Google Store, and you get free PC, OSX and Linux software for the template/GUI creator.

The app has its own website and forum.
    So check them out at
    http://hexler.net/software/touchosc

    Showcase:
This is the setup i was using at a gig on the 16th of may. (The first time i used the ipad live)

This is the PC version of the Template/GUI creator, and here im creating the template i was using on the Live show.
(This will be available for download in the tutorial part of the thread)

More pictures are in this PL gallery link so the Thread doesn't get bombed with pics
    http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...hp?albumid=383

Video of me just remapping the controller to get easier access to different sequences.
(Note: i am by no means good at live shows atm this was my first one.)

This is just a short clip of me triggering a sequence. (Recorded with an iphone so the video is shakes a bit)

    Tutorial:

Items/things required for this to work.

-iOS Or an Android device with anything later then iOS 3.1.3 installed (WORKS FOR BOTH iOS AND Android)
-Wireless router (ad-hoc does not seem to work with this)
-PC, Mac or linux (tutorial will only be done on a PC running Win7)
    -Laser show express (http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_diode/LSX.php)
-rtpMIDI (for reciving the signals from the iOS device and sending the midi to LSX or your own program that uses midi.http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/rtpmidi.html )
-Bonjour (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL999 for detecting the iOS devices on the wifi)
    -TouchOSC (and the editor downloaded

    Optional
-Anti slip mat for you ipad, iphone or ipod http://www.amazon.co.uk/NON-SLIP-GRI...ef=pd_sim_kh_5
-Touch pen or glove (so you dont destroy your finger from a long show. http://www.amazon.com/Agloves-Origin.../dp/B005GXMM5W)

    Step #1

    Install TouchOSC on your idevice.

    Step #2

    Install RtpMidi (http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/rtpmidi.html)

    Step #3

    Install Bonjour ( http://support.apple.com/kb/DL999)

    Step #4

Launch the TouchOSC app on your iDevice, Then head on over to rtpMIDI and check your directory. You should be able to see your iDevice in the list (Note: you must be connected to the same WLan or router)
Then select them you're iDevice and your Mysession PC and click connect. (NOTE: Make sure you select an open port befoe you connect so that your iDevice can talk with the Pc)

    Step #5

Creating a Template for you iDevice. The link bellow explains how you can create templates/GUI's very good. (NOTE: My template as you saw in the earlier pictures will be avalable for download at the bottom of the thread along with the LSX Midi setup)

    http://hexler.net/docs/touchosc-editor

    Step #6

When you are done creating a Template/GUI you need to map it in LSX. The best way is to use the Automap button. (You can load my
but you need to make sure you have assigned the buttons in the TouchOSC editor to a midi key. You can check this by looking in the midi logging section right next to the mapper in LSX.

    Step #7

Creating a live show in LSX. i suggjest you use one of colouredmirrorball's tutorials (http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...l-video-series)

    Step #8

Enjoy your new Live controller! make sure to post your templates and or new uses for it

[If you are having problems detecting your device in RtpMidi]
Open TouchOSC Editor and click on the Sync button to activate Syncmode, This has fixed the problem in most cases. If you cannot get it to work please leave a comment below.

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

As if there weren't enough reasons to like LSX here comes this. Man I can't wait for my LSX copy to come. Just ordered the other day. Hoping it will arrive in the next week or so. Would love to try this out.
