Actually, there are a LOT of folks on this forum that offer - and do - help, especially from the more senior members that have been around a while.
I know for a fact that lot of very detailed, time consuming, and sometimes expensive assistance is provided by the many knowledgable members of this forum, from pros and amateurs alike.
Help requires two-way communications, so a successful exchange requires as much effort from the "helpee" as the "helper", if not more so.
I have seen plenty of instances on this forum where assistance or recommendations were offered, but the OP requesting the assistance didn't respond or provide enough details to get anywhere, or seem to have decided that the assistance offered wasn't suitable, because the OP was looking for a $100 solution to a $2000 problem.
(Which I imagine is a contributing factor between project discussions here and those on LPF ~ a basic projector, even DIY, is probably going to wind up costing considerably more than a basic home-brew hand-held laser, and can quickly deter those that might come here with little more than pocket change and/or a fleeting interest).
Also, much of the detailed, one-on-one assistance here comes in the form of PM's behind the scenes.
Not everybody reads all the technical exchanges that take place, nor do they necessarily need to.
Like any forum, there are groups that swear by "Product A", while swearing at "Product B", and completely blowing off "Product C".
I have seen several instances where technical discussions of certain brands were quickly derailed by members who jumped in to basically just stir up the "my brand is better than your brand" controversy.
When crap like that happens, it's generally much more effective to just address the details in PM's, without the controversy BS posted in the open forums.
Just my nickel's worth of observations based on hanging out here for the last 7 years or so...
