All software has a learning curve usually proportional to its capabilities and unique features. Pointing with a mouse is in no way easier than tapping a key.
I bet I could write code in TRS-80 Level II BASIC to read them.
FYI, A standardized, equalized, point spacing does not always provide an optimal frame. Especially on blanked, long lines.
Constant scanner speed, while useful, does NOT always equate to an optimized image. Because some times you need to get to a point in space faster.
Another trap to watch out for is reprocessing a frame with hidden features about to be revealed, kept blanked.
say your making "EAT AT JOES" to appear one letter at a time. Professionals have AT AT JOES scanned blanked when the letter E appears.
This keeps the illumination even as the letters appear.

I should have rented the space under my name for advertising.
When I still could have...
LaserBoy employs the concept of lit black for revealing things like EAT AT JOE'S.
You have a lot of options in the design phase.
It's used in a lot of LB frame effects.
And it is available for you to use to write your own.
When you open a bitmap as a color map for vertices, black in the bitmap is taken up as lit black in the vector image.
You can convert lit black to blank or blank to lit black any time before or after optimization.
You're free to write your own blanking algorithms. That would still fit nicely into a LaserBoy Formatted Wave, it you were so inclined.
"Professionals" ??? WTF!
That's right up there with calling straight people "normal".
The LaserBoy Wave Format is an open concept provided in an application that is GPL3. Anyone can employ it and improve it as long as they follow GPL3.
If you want to incorporate it into a commercial application, ask me and credit its source.

Maybe Gary is warming up the TRS-80.

Hey! The new Raspberry Pi 2 came out today!
It has a quad core, 900MHz, ARM7 CPU with 1GB of RAM for the same $35 as the original Raspberry Pi.
That's pretty cool!
