Saw this, and thought how much better it would be with lasers (isn't everything better with lasers ?)

If you ever get a chance see Tim Walsh's ScannerMusic show. Tim played in a Polka Band (Nuclear Polka) at one time and his music IMHO better then that.
Tim's company is Laser Spectacles.

Sorry to come late to this discussion! This guy Jerobeam is super talented and making amazing stuff.

The problem with the "laser oscilloscope" is that the scanner speeds are severely limited. Once you get to the squeaky higher notes the scanners cannot hardly move at all. So a lot of the super complex high imagery is out. But the fun is to make some good looking and good sounding laser cues, turn off the lasers, and then create music with your laser computer. Turn on the lasers, and the show is perfect!
