Default Mechanical Laser Show: OK, which one of you guys did this? :)

Just saw this on the front page of Reddit:

    Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dtBUiaAqRE

3D-printed cams driven by a crank provide X and Y motion to a green laser pointer who's front end rides on the cams and pivots around the back end of the pointer which is held loosely in place with a rubber band...

    Result? Instant laser graphics!

OK, primitive graphics, but even so this is a very cool idea. The video explains how he calculated the varying radius of the two cams for each pattern. It's really quite clever...

So out with it: Which one of you guys did this?

Cool! He uses a Go program to generate the shapes for the cams:

..Heh, wonder if he was pissed when he found out "LaserCam" was already taken.. (..thought I suppose he could just 'add an s' to the end of that, and call it a day.. that'd be more accurate anyway..) Maybe he could name it 'Laser CamL'.. ..or 'My Lil' Mecamical Laser PJ' ..OK, I'll stop..

Brilliant lil' project-or.. Though I imagine, invariably we will see turn up on U2B the 'DIY CAM-DRIVEN 40 WATT BLUE LAZOR SHOTGUN!!'

    Now that is inspired!

For what it's worth, I sent the guy a PM on Reddit and he replied that he is in Los Angeles. He was not aware of our community here, so I extended an invite. I also mentioned SELEM, but he indicated that cross-country travel wasn't an option at the moment. (Damned shame too, because this would have made for a cool presentation at SELEM...)

Still, if he does stop in to check out our forums, maybe he could link up with some SoCal-LEM veterans!

Brilliant - maybe even enough to convince me to fire up the 3D printer and build one.
