He's also not exactly a beginner. He knows a lot about the software he wants to develop. He just wants a good prototyping laser projector.

Pangolin Quickshow with an FB3 controller is a very good option for a beginner. Simple interface and very easy to apply effects to shapes. List price used to be $595 but if you look around for deals from reputable vendors, you can get one for right around $500. The FB3 has a standard ILDA...

Hi all. I am new to lasers and looking to learn how to program a laser that can draw multi colored shapes via software I am making using Windows 11 x64. Looking to purchase one for hopefully under $500 US$ that has an ILDA interface. I would appreciate any references and links that I can...

I remember when I ported my app from strictly Linux to multiplatform. I had no way to experiment with building it on MacOS. At first it didn't seem like a big deal, but I found out there were lots of people who wanted to try it on Mac. In my case, it turned out to be all about how to compile it,...

Thanks all for the replies. Vidal -- I know exactly what you're referring to with the silver front surface mirrors. I don't use these inside the cavity but I use them outside the cavity to steer the alignment laser and yes, when I reflect an IR beam from them it does some pretty unruly things when...

Last year, at SELEM 15, I wanted to try something new. I bought a handful of LED desk lamps and laser cut the SELEM logo into them. I was considering doing it again this year and wanted to get an idea of how many I should make. The nice thing is, if you bought one last year you already have the...

So I've been thinking about this new Liberation laser show software for a while, and I finally decided to reach out to the developer (Seb) to chat about it. We were able to connect via a Zoom meeting, and what started out as a brief Q&A session turned into a 2 hour chat! :) I found Seb very easy...

I know those feels. I have been working on this Lumia projector for about 13 years now. And by "working on it" I mean, I have really only been working on it for the last 3. The previous 10 years involved gathering parts, designing, redesigning, and alerting the design. Part of that was due to...

Well, after thinking about this for a while, I decided to give it a try as well! Ordered the stepper motors from China, and also ordered both the drivers and an adjustable squarewave generator from Amazon. Probably going to have to wait a while to get the steppers delivered, but we'll see I...

Thanks for sharing this historical jaw-dropping, archival Laserium video, Ron. I only saw the Laserium shows in '77 and '79 (Denver and OKC), all abstract except for maybe the logo in '79, and I couldn't swear about the logo because its been so long ago. Quite impressive.

That's a great starting point. I'll post results. My one second memory of a certain lick in this song: There is the spiral ramp, on joystick rotation. There is no gain on the image source, so we have a dot streaming repeatedly in one direction. A diffractive scan glass produces a field, so the...

I went to some AI image generator thing and typed, "Design a logo for the South East Laser Enthusiast Meeting." and received the following. For the second pic, I simply added, "in Delaware." Thought it was quite interesting so I wanted to share! *retardo

A quick check on the show chronology page @ laserium.org shows Rock a Roll as the final number in six different shows beginning with Laserock II in 1980. I vaguely remember it. Definitely wasn't animated in 1980. I'm thinking a funky spiral number playing FM gain with a slow cycloid freq? It's all...

Thank you, Ron. I always enjoy seeing alternate imaginings of the imagery for such a well known song. The PIN document you provided for Laserock Platinum, which has rock and roll as the finale, mentions triggering diamond spirals. There would not have been any of the animation seen the the CSDL...

Greg, Unfortunately, I don't think the spiral was used at all during Rock 'n Roll. It was a completely animated number. I guess that someone was just playing with the controls when it was being recorded. Download the video below and you'll see no spirals at all. This was the CSDL version of the...
