Yep, it's confirmed, chatgpt is stupid. I cannot rely on them for good answers. For my own projects, I don't want to use a lens which isn't AR coated either, but difficult to find what I need with coatings. I had to special order some OC mirrors made with the coatings I needed once, cost me near...

And that's because GPTchat is stupid! SHG as the name suggests will always output 532nm from 1064nm, but if phase matching condition is not matched the output power will be very, very low. There's another option - DFG which would downconvert signal to MIR signal and idler but without extreme input...

Last I heard the ebay seller I linked to thinks he has what he needs. On another subject, highjacking this thread for only a short while, does anyone know what the SHG output wavelength would be for a KTP crystal which is cut for a 47.5 degree phase angle when pumped with 1064 nm, for either...

Old school stuff the big theme parks use comes from Precision Projection in Ceritos, CA. www.ppsfx.com and not everything is on the web page, you might have to ask. In the heyday of fiber remoting large lasers, PPS was/is the cat's meow. The brothers Hannigan are very cool people. Steve

Lasermaster1977: you and me both. I play lead guitar on our worship team and a song I learned a few weeks ago will be lost from my memory the next time I play it. Getting old has it's moments.

Thanks Lasermaster1977. This is really great info. I need to think about all it and put a plan together. At the moment I have zero blanking setup so I will need to put it all together - scanner, mount, flag, scan amp... this will take a couple weeks and then revisit this topic. Just not...

You might also want to check out the Rosco X24 X-Effects projector. This seems to have the effect you're looking for. Plus I think you can change the pattern glass and probably add a gobo for additional effects.

Closest I have found are a 105W no-name one on ebay that looks good but not as good as the Disney ones, the other is the ADJ H20 which doesn't look as good, either. I also doubt Disney has anything from ADJ in their parks! So, These might be some custom jobs. Curious if they might be video...

To use the 555 output to feed a blanking drive circuit I would recommend a method that would lightly load its pin 3, i.e. a digital buffer. Another 555 could be used for this buffer and its output would then feed whatever scan driver circuit you have. I should add that a CMOS inverting buffer...

In Disney World, specifically Epcot, you'll see water effect projectors on certain rides. On the Nemo ride, their projectors shine on the floor and on elevated transparent screens that give the effect of being under water. I tried to see a manufacturer name or symbol and couldn't see on. Does...

Thanks Lasermaster1977. I'm reliving some of the same joys that Greg has. Currently not using any laser diodes at the moment. Just using some old HeNe's and a DPSS laser I had laying around. I was just going to use a scanner to test blanking. I'll see if I can put together a circuit that...

Congrats Kevint! Nice image results, too. Many times it is just the simple things. You couldn't use the 555's output directly as a blanking signal since it is 0-15v. Some some down scaling and buffering would be needed to get down to a 0-5v signal. But, I don't recall what you are using for...

Belive me, if anything generated visible light at any practical power level in a transverse discharge, prior to the practical blue laser diode, it would have been on the market. Neon generates exceptionally weak visible pulses in a transverse discharge, so do some very exotic excimers....

I totally agree, I also prefer the retrace line. It adds that natural analog feel to the image which I really enjoy. The main purpose for asking the question is to try to understand where these blanking signals come from and in this case could the 555 time pulse be that source. But all in all,...

Its difficult to accept when a "greybeard" says no, because, at least in my experience, their information is out of date. I'm not saying that's the case here, but saying no to a question, and then saying "because I've worked with lasers since the 1980's" when they ask why it wont work, does sweet...

Is this in addition to your YAG project to focus 808 nm into the crystal? Beam expanders are easy, you don't necessarily need an AR coated lens for 808 nm as an output expander, it won't be as efficient, but not that much loss, not needed for a pointer output unless your diode is sensitive to...

I'm primarily looking for cylindrical lenses to build a telescope to expand the beams from individual laser diodes. For that, I need short concave lens and longer convex lens, for eg. -4mm and +40mm. Additionally, I need (preferably M9) collimators for the diodes, but I found a few options here.

This seller on ebay might have them, but not listed. He had some fiber to convex 808 nm lenses with AR coating in the past and not expensive, as they go. You could remove the fiber, or leave it on to interface to a FAP. What kind of laser is your 808 nm coming out of? Simple diode, or? What are you...

Or he could have simply said (as I did) that its more complicated than creating an electrical discharge in argon to make an argon ion laser. There is a middle ground between saying "no it wont work" and giving a full lesson on the mechanics of gas lasers, just saying. Its difficult to accept...
