I would say that you're being very gracious to include yourself in that assessment. Damaged minds don't hold jobs like yours very long. On the other hand, hermits don't care much about what 'those' folks say. That's why and how we've become hermits. I'm much better now that I've spent an hour of...

Sounds like we have much in common. Touring cured my wanderlust desires. Settled into a lowly PC tech job afterwards at the local Jr College, where I was able to further my education while earning a pension. 16 years later, I was able to retire and choose the hermit's lifestyle. Or did it choose...

Sam wasn't some sort of corporate automaton. Sam was just an ass. He had strengths and weaknesses, but never bothered to figure out which were which. Today, I work in an organization where loyalty goes up and down the org chart. So does respect. I had never spent more than 5 years in any job before...

Yes, most of my life involved preparing for a future that I couldn't afford to enjoy in the present. But, if 'it' ever happened, I'd always be ready. 🙄 As my 'partner' used to say, "It's good to want; gives a person something to live for." Can't blame you for walking after being denied a tour with...

My stories are mostly mundane. You know the story about the Ant and the Grasshopper? I was cast in the role of the Ant. When my team won the Rush tour I wanted to go. "We can't afford to have you out of the office for a six month tour!", said Sam. That was two weeks before I left. Sam left 3 months...

Ah yes, those pre-CGI/video days of films. Apparently, Morris Binder (RIP) used to lock himself inside the editing room for weeks to achieve his 'secretly' produced Bond title sequences. Sounds alot like the Blue Oyster Cult's tour that Ron Dahl worked on ~ '79. Double-ended 172 located behind the...

I doubt it was Laser Images. I found this on the net: "Early tests for the teleportation effect included the use of an argon laser system which would project shafts of light inside the Telepods. This approach was scrapped in favor of using extremely bright flashbulbs to "burn out" the image of...

Gee, maybe I should order the telescope mirror to be shipped 1st class, then. 😜 Holoco's crew used to fly with their laser heads. But I don't know how they pulled that off with their SP 192 (2 * 172 tubes, end to end on an optical rail). Their electronics engineer, Neil Irwin and I did the title...

I heard a story from a post Laserium laserist that that person's freelance company did the tele-pod effect for the film The Fly. Perhaps it is a similar effect to the one being discussed. The story goes that the argon beam went under the floor, and some non standard mirror had to be custom...

You may need to achieve a dynamic balance for your moving assembly. Visualize a shaft with a weight attached near one end and another weight attached near the other but 180 degrees around the axis of the shaft relative to the first weight. If you put the shaft between centers it will act balanced,...

Yes, @$30 on eBay, that fits the bill, quite nicely thank you very much! 7mm is a bit thick and heavy, but manageable, I hope. Wow! Didn't see that one coming. "Always pays to ask." I hope that the aluminum w/protective coating will hold up to a 6 watt beam. Might be a good to slightly offset the...

That explains your intimate knowledge of Laser Images' systems. Yes, that's Phil. Couldn't remember his last name. Yes, great personality. I was 16 working in the bookstore at the McDonnell Planetarium in 1975 when Laserium opened in St. Louis. Hmmm, perhaps my brain has lost a few Marks over the years. If I remember correctly, our London Laserium projector was originally upgraded from Salt Lake City's installation, before we set it up in London. Perhaps it was an older projection head with an upgraded Mark IV controller. At that time, I...

Nice to meet you too. BTW the G-124 scanners were introduced with the Mark VI projectors. The Mark IV machines were retired when Laserium II premiered in the early locations. Eventually they got rewired with control panels similar to a Mark VI's and designated Mark 600s.

Well, back in 1978, at the London Planetarium, I was still on the Mark II, running a 1 watt, SP 164 Krypton, w/ GS124 open loop scanners, a mechanical beam chopper galvo (G300?), and GS124 beam torquer. Yes, I agree with the comments regarding Laserium's musical score being emotionally dynamic,...

It is technically possible to create a special version of one of the ilda font files that would work with Cyrillic in the extended ascii character range. I'm not sure how you would key it in to the application though. You see it works by using the numeric value of the ascii character to index the...

I found a crystal on eBay that looked pretty good. I was dreading removing it from its mount but the crystal I bought is held in with what looks like thermal silicone and the mount was in two parts. It was really easy to separate the crystal holder from the TEC that it was glued to, and then the...

That number from Laserock II would have been hurt when they replaced the slotted can chopper with the AOM for the Beatles show. They could have preserved the soft edge of the chopper effect and let the laserist turn it on and off, but they didn't. There's no way I could actually reproduce your...

Perhaps I misunderstood your post. I thought you were able to export to ILDA but it didn't work on the SD card. From my experience, SD card readers only read ILDA format 0 with an assumed 63 color default pallet. LaserBoy can import all ILDA formats and convert that to a best match to the default...

You could try exporting ILDA from LSX and then importing that into LaserBoy. From LaserBoy you can optimize it and export it as the right kind of ILDA format for SD card readers. You can also use LaserBoy to make original art and do animation effects.

The 352 card was a complete redesign, and much more stable in my experience than the dmtr/timing/dac 351 version. That said, if I'm reading the 6b-352_cage_wiring doc correctly the audio transformers were added to the mark IV after St. Louis opened in 75, and there isn't one for the data channel...
