... yes, the NIR-diodes are not suited and not meant for the ruby or Fluoresceine setups. Nd:YAG rods are pumped with something between 803 to 810nm to emit 1064nm; the Yterbium fiberlasers are pumped with 975nm to give 1070nm. Have too a Nitrogene TAE "laser", which pulses at 337nm with...

From my perspective as a manufacturer, it sucks. Like, it'd be very easy to say tighter beams and lower divergence are always better, also this wavelength is better than that wavelength and this control system is better than that one, but the reality is there's a shitload of nuance in this and...

You're going to hit Stokes law if you try to pump in the IR.. IR would not pump the 694 transition, the pump light for a three or four level system needs to be shorter in wavelength then the lasing wavelength. The process Has to comply with the laws of Thermodynamics. You may see long ...

... the 16mm ruby spheres costs around 100 Euros, so not this expensive -- but it's more like "tinkering around", so not totally focused on forcing it to lase. Have too some Nd:YAG-rods already in a resonator setup from a flash-lamp pumped laser, where I was thinking about trying to end-pump the...

Some of the first Russian lasers were very large coated spheres filled with dyes. ... It depends on your definition of lasing. Spectral narrowing of the broad fluorescence to a single line with Coherence could be loosely considered lasing, but in this day and age people want to see a beam. ...

They absolutely do. I've seen a few things the LD for Echoes (the tribute band I do lasers for) has done with the X-Pods, when I haven't been available with projectors and it's crazy how bright they look. https://www.facebook.com/bethany.ratcliffe66/videos/10216454506656970/

I don't remember which model my wife bought, but she got me a motorized movie screen a few years ago from Amazon. It's 16:9 format (widescreen), and I think it's about 9 feet wide or so. Works great for lasers as well as video from my DLP projector. Wasn't all that expensive either - maybe $100...

Shame you couldn't come to SELEM this year, Greg. David had this set up in the entrance area behind the auditorium (basically behind the sound booth). He had it running pretty much non-stop and people could just walk back there and view it. Amazing! *Lots* of people got to see it, and...

Glad you could make it, Aaron! It was great to meet you, and I definitely enjoyed your DJ set. The Eurorack you brought was most impressive. I'm just sorry that Sal (Discothefunkyhippo) didn't bring his Eurorack with him this year so you two could compare notes. The two examples you just...

I agree completely that in a 2W 4mm at 1mrad is not difficult, I don't know of any projectors on the market outside of the chauvet scorpion that are 2mrad at below 10 watts as standard, but don't underestimate the power of high divergence and diameter in short spaces. Check out Brad's X-Pods at...

How expensive is the ruby sphere? (How upset would you be if you ruined it?) If it's something you don't mind losing, then go ahead and try silvering the poles. (Assuming you have the ability to do so affordably.) Silver isn't the best option (dielectric coatings are more efficient),...

I agree that with high power projectors you often will see larger beams at the aperture, and I also agree that for outdoor, long-throw use the trade-off for lower divergence makes sense in that case. But in the 2 to 3 watt range, most of the projectors I've used have roughly a 4 mm beam at the...

That said if anyone knows which video projectors (DLP, LCoS or 3LCD) have those laser banks inside, please tell. A used projector will definitely cost several times the cost of a new laser bank array sold separately but one sold as parts due to damaged optics, PCB or DLP chip may be cheaper.
