Hi everyone,

I'm brand new to these laser forums. Just picked up a Schwartz electro model MPS - 1047. Its a 20W nd:yag I believe. I'm trying to get in touch with someone that has experience with these lasers. The system powers up and warms up. The coolant lights start on hot, then goes to the green set point light, then the cold light, then back to the set point light. Eventually the fault light comes on. At this point I dont know anything about this laser. I think its pulsed. Someone told me a signal needs to be input to the laser for it to fire. Can anyone point me to a manual (cant find one on Google) or make suggestions or help me get the laser to fire.

Call Schwartz directly. Schwartz makes mostly customized lasers for special uses. That is your best hope for data. Have the model and serial number ready when you call.

That laser looks like a rebranded q-peak unit, you might be able to get some info from them on it. I think that it will need signals sent to it over rs232 to make it turn on (although its possible some magic combination of pins in the remove connector will do the job as well)

So just a bit of an update. Thanks krazer for the tip. Looks like this is the original design before the company was bought out. Will try to get in touch with qpeak for some help. I think the fault was due to a low coolant reservoir. That may or may not have been the problem. The system now seems to stabilize with the following lights. The laser light is off (not fault anymore) and the coolant temp stays consistently on set point. Its like its just waiting for the signal now on the RS232 or from the DB25 remote controller port. Anyone else have any other suggestions as far what kind of signal it needs or how I can short the remote controller since I wont be using one. Thanks
