Hello,
My name is Simon and am new to this site. :)

Does anyone know what temperature the KTP oven TEC should run at please ?

Also, does anyone have any electonics tech info on this part of the laser.

I have recently purchased a Laserscope 800 KTP 532 ND:YAG laser that has already been converted for light show use but still has the original main computer board in place that only controls the KTP oven !!!
I would like to remove it as its the only thing I cant fix myself now.

Any information on this would be greatfully received.

:D

That sounds like a typical 'conversion' that I wouldnt call a conversion. Im no expert on scopes (so please dont assume I am!), but I have been helping with a conversion for one. The main computer and most of the kit that makes this an implauseable portable laser can be binned off. In my opinion this is what a 'conversion' should entail - making it so its no longer a medical door stop.
I dont know the temperatures but Im sure Pat B (laserman532) will be able to help you out (or even dsli jon), and the popular way to temp control the KTP is with an oven industries controller. They can be had for 40-50 quid and can be set up to do all the work you need. You need a remote control (plans out on the interweb) as well to be able to ditch the computer and all its interlocks (many not needed some still needed)

Good luck and lets ee some pix. Actually just shine it in this direction and I will lokk out my window :)
Cool kit.

80-90'C comes to mind, to promote self healing in the crystal, but I am a old man of 39, so don't rely on my memory.;)

I sent you a PM to email someone who would know.

I would track down an oven industries controller. The controller should be able to react fairly quickly so building your own controller is probably not a good Idea. My understanding is you want the temperature higher than ambient. As KTP is a temperature tuned crystal or an angular tuned crystal all that matters is you hold one stable and adjust the other. Find an oven industries controller and make your life easy.

Hey Simon,

The KTP should be around 82C which is about 750 ohms on the thermistor in the heater. The crystal is phase matched with both the physical orientation (i.e. the 5 axis mount) and the temperature. I think there's something in Sam's FAQ about how to get it right.

Older Laserscopes (before they integrated that function into the main board) used an Oven Industries temperature controller. I've been told that model 5C7-350 is a good replacement and costs <$100.
