Prayer won't do any good b/c you're knowingly doing it to yourselves. So I think that frees me up to laugh without guilt at you all. I'll feel kind of sorry for you but I'm going to laugh. I'm not sure that Maloxx will be enough to put the flames out though. Eating one of these peppers is basically the equivalent of spraying some of the capsaicin "pepper spray" that police officers use straight into your digestive system. (Not smart!) I don't know how you could counter-act that stuff. (I guess milk and bread would be better than nothing thouugh.)
Even Doc admitted that he doesn't eat them. He only grows them so he can give them to fools that claim that they "really like hot food", and that "nothing is ever too hot for them." Sigh - pride goeth before the fall I guess...

I've watched a few youtube videos of people eating these things, and after seeing their reaction, I'm starting to think that these peppers should not be classified as food, but rather as weapons!
I'm also more than a little concerned that someone could have a reaction to one of these things that might require a trip to the Emergency Room. Seriously.

well if you do not eat peppers on a regular basis.. dont try them because you could react..
if you DO eat peppers (not just spicy food) on a regular basis (like I do) then you will probably be just fine when everything is said and done.
Now i love pepperoncini and and habanero and many chili and peppers, but they are not to be eaten willy nilly just to prove you can take it.
i have had a nice Bhut Jolokia chili, from India, Guinness books hottest pepper. But i ate it baked over a stuffed green pepper. it was friken hot, but there were no seeds so it was was bearable... later that day after the indigestion was gone, there was an eruption of molten lava.
I love spicy foods and i love peppers.. but its pointless to waste such a wonderfully flavorful offering on pride.
Exactly, I can eat habaneros like candy. Once you get past the majority of heat, the taste is wonderful. I guarantee one of these Jolokia's will make me sweat but no trips to the ER. Now, If you're not a chili fan. I'd highly suggest you stay away from these suckers. I'm still not swallowing. I don't want to cramp up for 5 hours. :DQuote:

I lived near there when I went to Full Sail. with the venue we have for FLEM there could be two before SELEM... I try to have a LEM every night at my house. :cool: I can bring a DVD of SELEM to my job in Eatonville if you like; there is also a copy of some footage on the FTP. I am not sure which FTP, but one of them... :o I have to go pick up dinner so I can't check for you. sorry. ;)

SELEM is schedules for the weekend of August the 15th and 16th. We rent out a 500 seat auditorium for the entire weekend and just go nuts! Plan on getting into town (Newton, NC, by the way... About 50 min outside of Charlotte) in the early afternoon on Friday. After dinner, we retire to the upstairs lounge for drinks, cigars, and fun with laser pointers. This party is one of the highlights of the whole event, and is something you don't want to miss. It usually runs from 6 PM until they close the place, wihich is anywhere from 10:30 to midnight, depending on the crowd...
If you've never been to a Laser Enthusiast's Meeting before, you may want to search the forums here for threads containing "SELEM", "FLEM", or "UKLEM" to get some idea as to what they're like. You may also wish to browse through the pictures in the PL photo gallery; there are several albums in there with pictures of the venue for SELEM. But I can tell you that they are a *LOT* of fun.
People are welcome (indeed, encouraged) to bring whatever equipment they have. Since this is a private event, there will be several projectors there that do not have CDRH variances. So even if you have a half-finished project that is nothing more than a laser and some scanners on a plate, feel free to bring it along. We have plenty of room (and plenty of power) for everyone's gear.
Speaking of power, we will have at least one 50 amp 220 V single phase circuit available on stage, along with up to 450 amps of 208 Vv 3 phase power available backstage. And of course, plenty of 110V outlets as well.
Water is available for water-cooled gear, but you'll need to bring your own hoses. (Figure 100 ft from the water source to the front of the stage.)
I'll be starting another thread for SELEM 2009 in a few weeks, once I hammer out the rest of the details. But in the mean time, feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Having attended my first SELEM last August, I can say that event, the venue, the impromptu shows, and the people in attendance were the deciding factors that helped to firmly entrench me in this moneypit hobby! :D *warn :p
A VERY cool aspect of the SELEM venue (couple with the fact that it is a "private event") - is that you can actually view killer beam shows from beneath the lasers, like most folks would see, AND from ABOVE the lasers, looking down on the beams!!

Matthew (DJMatt) and I went to our very first laser anything in March. It was FLEM. We drove 11 hr.s to get there, we would do it again and will. We met some great people who have the very patience of Job and more knowledge than you can digest in a weekend. I worked as a peofessional laser tech / laserist for 10 years and now am an engineer for a company that builds laser range finders & designators for the military, but I never knew about these forums or the LEM's until a year ago. It makes me feel good knowing that there are others with the same obsessive compulsive drive that I have. :D

Lets bring this thread back to food. My thinks we can make a big pan of lasagana, freeze it and bring it down in the bottom of a cooler.We'll just have to heat it up.As warm as it is in NC . we could just put it in the back window of someone's car and warm it up.

The venue has a stove, but we usually use that circuit to provide 220V power to the stage. Still, I'm sure we can work something out. (I might need to run to the hardware store and purchase a spare breaker to stick in the panel...)
I know that 300Evil was talking about bringing some BBQ too, but he's still unsure if he'll be coming or not, so I don't think we can count on that.
I like the idea of eating there, because it gives us more time for lasers! And we can always order a couple of pizzas too... At this point it looks like we'll have around 25 people present. Maybe a few more even.
I'll be bringing ~ 4 gallons of home brew beer. I'm going to bottle it tonight. It's a Vienna Wheat Octoberfest - should be pretty good!

I'm still on the fencewith my work schedule, BUT.....
I could smoke and pull several pork roasts. I hate to toot my own horn, but it's some of the best there is. Southern style, hickory smoked, low and slow for about 8-10 hrs.

Yep, I'll be flying in. Still gotta figure out how to pay for the $35 admission. :D:rolleyes: So BBQ and ruby laser is out. Just bringing me, my projector, a video camera and a few shirts. Doing the whole trip on fumes. Should be interesting! :D
Out of curiosity, why flying? Last year you drove, and it wasn't that bad, was it? I figured this year you could caravan with a couple guys...
Still, it will be great to see you either way. Are you sure you can bring your projector on the plane?

As for my projector, I flew back with it after FLEM so it shouldn't be a problem. I have a nice big pelican case to put it in.

Now if i can find a sitter for our 7 animals. It costs more to board them than a suite at the Hilton.
