Hi all
Thanks Johan, I have been away for the week in the sunny Woolacombe,
I have had a card put through the door on Friday, so I have collected my 2 modules today, I must say they look great, just got to put them together, one red one blue.
Great quality, im very pleased, im sure there will be lots of questions.
Many thanks Tony.:cool:
A small update but not a happy one.:( Although i have most of the parts i was out of stock from the screws and so i ordered them 1.5 weeks ago. I didn,t recieve them yet so i will contact them again to see when they will arrive. Sorry for the delay. I ordered a big quantity so that i have plenty in stock from now on. Sorry for the delay:o
another update. The supplier of the screws has replied and they have shipped my parts. I will recieve them probably next week.:)
Great mount...I still have 8 or so 445s lying about so a build like this would be fun.
I've being trying to figure the beam profile.
Would the profiles match
||
||
or
--
||
or
||||
a profile like # wouldn't be possible?
||||Matches the aspect and divergence ratios very nicely, as gives a square a beam as one could possibly hope for.:)
I've been trying for :
::
And I must admit it's been doing my head in - something is always out.. :)
So much so I've stipped one of the screws on the mount (the pull one), but then it couldnt be any worse than stripping the thread on the lense holder and having to build a new one from scratch.. (done that too)
The joys of Lasers!
N.
Crikey Nige!Whacha doin to em!!? :eek. All good fun though...
Agreed. But the reason I'm scratching my head is because is it truly a 4 watt laser when it comes to beam brightness? Yes, the LPM will display 4 watts but the beam is essentially 4 one watts.
I built a 2 watt laser using a PBS and a + profile. The core is brighter than the rest of the beam. So even it one knife edges 8 beams together, the brightness of the beam is still that of a one watt because the 8 beams are not superimposed....
I'm probably way off in my assumptions?
There is essentially no difference in power or visual brightness between a 4W single beam laser with a 4mm x 4mm beam and 4 x 1W lasers each with 1mm x 4mm beams stacked close together. The energy concentration per sq. mm is the same. The nice thing about the |||| stack is that the c@$!0 445nm diodes tend to result in a 1mm x 4mm line so you can get 4 beams into a square shape. Otherwise you can expand the slow axis of 1 diode to make it 4mm x 4mm using correction optics, but it does not have the same energy concentration as stacking 4 in the same space.
So let me get that straight then, what you say is it doesn't matter if i use 4 x 1Watt it will be the same brightness as a 1 x 1Watt. How about if i concentrate the 4x1Watt in the far field will i have more brightness then, because if that is the case why do i need dual and quad then... Just not clear on that right now.
Because people need more red and so did i , i developed the kit so stacking is easy for people that have less stacking skills. I only have 3 left and that,s it. I won,t make another batch because my lasercases (6 of them) are ready to be picked up from the metalshop.;) So i will start wiith building projectors. 2 of them will be 4 watt blue,s and 1 is for Rizard. I,m waiting for the screws to come in but it takes quite allot of time. I will contact the supplier where the hell they are. Its really anoys me O_o I also have an RB module coming soon and the 4 watt blue,s....
What was said by taggalucci was somewhat different to your text above.
He said a 4 x 1Watt beam is the same as 1 x 4watt beam with the same beam size ! *vigil
NOT 1 x 1Watt *retardo
With a quad you will have four times the brightness of the same (4mmx4mm) sized 1watt beam :cool:
Cheers :)
Do believe I was so excited I rushed ahead without thinking or setting aside some time.
Stripped the thread on the lens holder by not removing the mirror mount whilst at the same time being bugged by a 2 and a 1/2 yr old to get her a "drinkawater".
I'm getting there tho, it's all a learning curve and good fun - probably the most worrying thing is the state of my "lab" (Actually a bedroom with desks in it) there is not much space on either desk because I have various laser componants strewen across the room, and it get's worse.. I just bought more from Ebay.
I think I need to go to rehab, but I say no no no.
No, only a quarter of the 4 x 1W would be a similar brightness to 1 x 1W!Quote:

Interestingly, I believe that if it were achievable, a 1W beam in a 2mm x 1mm would be perceivably brighter than a 4mm x 1mm because the energy concentration per square mm would be higher.
Have a look at this picture of my RGB and Dave's RGB. He has 3 x 1W knife-edged ||| and I have about 1W single. You can see the intensity difference clearly.

:D:D:D
don't start a "my laser is bigger than yours" with dave mate. it'll probably end up in tears (but sure you know this better than me)
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
I have been tempted many times to build a quad 445, but then i think "whot the fook you'll do with it then?" and i back off.
i can build one, but this doesn't mean i need one. and i don't want to set my curtains on fire (assuming that i'll have curtains some time in the future)
Ha ha! You're right, tho a bit of healthy competition never hurt anyone! Not that I feel I'm in competition. Dave and Adrian have a good thing going and I have a lot of respect for their work.
I had the luxury of starting my laser "career" with a 4W Argon, so every laser since is just dying to live up to that! I ran club nights in London and have a crew ready to launch a new night on the Melbourne scene. A few "big" lasers won't hurt ;)
What's the ETA on these for those of us in the US?
Yes i ordered the remaining screws on at boltmeup at ebay. The last time was excellent service so i ordered from them again. This time they are quite delayed so i contact them yesterday again. Sorry for the delay. :(
got any left? im in for 1!
If there is enough interest i might concidering to do another groupbuy.
But i will ship the ones from adam and other US buyers including the one from Catalanyo en the rest next week when irecieved the m2x6mm screws that holds the circuitboards. I ordered allot of different screws from BOLTMEUP
at ebay. After 4 weeks no sign of any package. Lee said that he would send the package again and if i didn,t recieve that package on thuesday i had to contact him. I have also checked his feedback from other buyers and it noticed that he is not a 100% seller. So i started a case and claimed the money back. I learned from this so i will order my screws from a normal company and not from an ebay seller. The ebay seller is cheap but not reliable. :(
I only have to wait for the m2x6 screw. Other then that i can ship them right away. ;)
Hey Johan
If you do another GB I would Possibly have another block, the last pair I had from you where great, I could do one more to boost my red.
Cheers Tony*retardo
I need at least 20 orders to make it worth doing it. Badpip will have a 4 channel driver ready soon:
http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...C-Driver/page3
So soon there will be a quadkit complete with 4 channel driver available. In time diodes will be more powerfull and so there is a stacking system available including suitable driver for hobbyists*retardo
I will start the new groupbuy when the 4 channel driver is ready for mass production. There will be some minor improvements. It will be possible smaller and the circuitboard will be slightly different. Just minor changes and so virtually the same. :cool:
hope get the 20 orders.... i want one of these modules :D
If all you're waiting for is m2 x 6mm screws, please send the modules to 300EVIL and I'll pay for a box or two of fasteners which are easily obtainable at your local Fastenal.
Yea, it'd be nice to have these rockin and rollin by SELEM. *retardo
I will ship them this week no worries. Robin , thanks for the offer but next time you send me a PM start with:
Hello johan..... Could i....... instead of:
I.m a human being and not a Dog;) Well you get my point.*vigilQuote:
I'll need my money back if the modules do not ship by Aug 1.
I am interested in one module if there are any left or another buy forth coming. :)
Tommorow i will pack the kits to ship them. The freightner will be a courier like DHL, UPS or something like that. Invoices for the kits will be included. The M2x6 screws are missing so i will contact Adam to order these so they are in time for Selem. I will include a Price to hold a lotery at Selem so you can win something. *retardo
I have the Kits ready to ship but i have contacted 2 people to the US. I have send Adam and Robin a PM but so far no responce. The request was to ship them so they are in time for selem. Could anyone contact Adam so that he checks his inbox?
Thanks!!!*retardo
I would be interested in one of these if you do another run... need everything but the enclosure
I have 5 pieces left from the looks of it. So if your interested shoot me a PM.
:)
So did the kits ship to the states yet?
Still waiting on Adam to reply my PM,s. He organised this groupbuy. He needs to confirm the number of kits that need to be shipped. He said yesterday that he would reply after work but that was yesterday. Until now no reply. I have also included a Full kit with Cover to support SELEM for free to win. Would be kind of sad if the package is to late:(
Someone from this groupbuy want his money back when they are not shipped before 1 aug isn,t that nice. Also SELEM is close so i want to ship them now. That,s my perspective[popcorn]
Johan, don't take this too harshly... You mention your perspective, but I think you may missing theirs.
Here's my independent perspective, not involved in this transaction, but watching with interest for months...
If you hold money for a customer's order then you are obliged (by the unwritten rules of good customer service) to deliver them their order as quickly as possible. Ideally, you would already have stock and not wait until you have all the money before starting manufacturing, but that is what the deal was.
While you're holding that money, any delay you experience is down to the decisions you've made in choosing suppliers. You should be unreservedly apologetic, unless of course you have clearly described the expected delivery date to your customers and are still within that time period. Again, any delay to your customers who you have money from is your responsibility.
I therefore find your attitude strange when I hear your objections to customers being upset at your delays and wanting their money back.
This GB has been running since March, payments early May, manufacturing started May and it's nearly August.
Perception please Johan, especially if you want a good reputation and repeat business. The forum is watching.
Will these kits be shipping this week?
