In the video I can see that the numbers are already present on the ring and the laser seems to be burning them more.
Questions:
1) How did the numbers get there before the laser? Are the just superficial reference numbers or are they punched into the metal?
2) Does the dark color wash/rub off?

... it's that simple -- I've test-engraved the ring a week ago, slightly displaced ... then the customer sandblasted and sent it to me again -- and I've engraved it a second time with better adjustment ;)

... I have some laser-diodes and UV-LED's, that needs more than 20 Amps ... and a fiberlaser with removed electronics, that too needs more than 30 Amps for full power on the pumping diodes switched in series and parallel.
Had no proper PS for them ... until now!
Got two "beefy" power sources with 12V @77,5A (and 3,3V @6A), what's more than enough Amperage :cool:

Mariomaster was selling some high-amperage DC power supplies at SELEM this year. I picked up two of them. The form factor is very similar to the ones you posted.
Each one of the supplies I have is rated for 12 volts at 120 amps! And you can break down each supply into 4 modules that will each supply 12 volts at 30 amps by itself.
I forget what the original use case was for these supplies (these are used, but working pulls from old equipment). Maybe Alex will chime in here with more information. But either way, they're beasts! (My thought was that I could use one of the individual modules to supply all the 12 volt power I would ever need for a projector.)

... this PS'es are mostly used with server-racks, so should be pretty common - have seen some at ebay from 30 to 50 € or USD ...

Very nice. Maybe the very small steppers from CD mechanisms would work, or are they too big? Smallest ones I have are about 12mm dia x 10mm long.

Get it "working" was meant more like a joke ;) - will assemble an "pose" it.
But ... on the other side ... some +10 years ago I've developed a micro-assembly stage for the Faulhaber Micro-motors - they had a diameter of 1,9mm and I assembled the 3-staged planetary gear for them with the "cogwheels", seen in the midle section of this video:

How about memory wire you heat by passing voltage through the wire. All arm motion should be linear so this would be easier than anything rotary. After all that is how our limbs work.
