Visit from a Porn Star

Now that I have your attention :D:D:D

A friend came over tonight to show me his new toy, a very nice 8 watt Coherent Taipan OPS Laser. So I guessed it would be rude not to share the moment with you guys...

Now for the porn bit:

Here's the spot, best I could get, but rest assured it was a perfect circle...

Things started getting a little warm to say the least, so a bit of heat sinking was in order...

How tight is that beam? *retardo

She is very sexy!

So that's what an arm and a leg look like without the body...hmmm*retardo

Coherent makes some of the best lasers in the world and they are also about the best laser company support wise also... not perfect but if you ask nicley they often come through and help with issues that are beyong what is written in the product warranty. Nice laser.

That thing looks seriously sexy indeed :smile-big:

How much is the beam divergent and with which diameter? I've always wondered if these Taipan was worth a fortune, versus another brand/type of the same power but alot "cheaper"...

bummer, with a name like this thread I was at least hoping to see some internal shots :embarrassed:

@ SBK: The beam is 2.5mm at aperture with 0.4MRad divergence, we measured 9.6 watts. The laser ramps up to full output in seconds and is stable as a very stable thing :D

@ SRS: All in all very sexy, a true porn star. However, I think removing the casing for internal shots would definitely have resulted in my immediate death

Mark

look totally crap mark, you should give it to me ;)

also where was my invite?
