Why don't you use positive drive drivers so you don't need to isolate the diodes and can CNC more precise collimator's mounts. this safes time with alignment.

cos the diodes would still be touching the alum block and could pop them by touching the block. this way i can touch the alum block as much as i want without worrying.

Do they not correct the Divergence before the telescope? Most of the diodes have WAY worse divergence in one axis. So if they just go through the telescope for example a diode with a .5 x 1 mrad through the 3x would become 1.5 x 3 mrad but a smaller initial beam. Or am I missing something. Just wondering how they are able to keep the divergence to 1mrad after a 3X tele?

When you compress different sources into one beam you can get as low divergence as the crappiest source. As long as initial sources are focused to infinity and diodes are giving the best beam by themselves I can see no big problem making a very good beam.
You can do telescope and reverse telescope. One will have a fat initial beam and then slowly gets to a focus point and after that gets bigger again. The goal of this is to put focus as far as possible. And you don't really need more then 300m anyways for lasershow. Or have a flashlight effect. Initial beam is very small but gets bigger over the distance. I have to use the last way on my 1.2W 635nm because I have 3mm galvos. I tried other way but I'm getting 8mm initial beam. Doesn't fit on 3mm galvos.O_o

Awesome build Andy. Just been going through your web page and and the Arctos style build really blows me away. Respect to those who build, this is way over head!
BTW on the patent front have you pulled it up and read through the wording? Arctos obviously can't have patented all beam combining otherwise no company could produce multi-diode units (which is what most diode based laser units are anyway) so they've obviously patented doing it in a certain way or over a certain number of diodes. Might be worth looking at the wording to see what is covered and what isn't covered as it may be possible to build something similar for commercial use without actually infringing the patent depending on how you achieve the combining or the number of diodes you use.
indeed they have patented combining a certain way. i believe they have patented the stacking of beams and the use of telescopics to shrink them beams down. they havent patented knife edgeing or stacking. its the combination of stacking beams with the use of telescopics.
i believe most laser companies stack but do not use telescopics. if you put a good quality lens on a 640 diode you get a 1mm by 1.5mm beam out, so you can combine many of these and still get a decent beam out. but without telescopics you are very limited on the many you can combine, so most companies (rgb and kvant) only make up to 4-5watt reds.
arctos make 10watt reds with really good beams using telescopics.
at the end of the day if you want to get real high powered reds with decent arctos 3mm beams you have to stack beams and use telescopics.

Did you guys never wondered why they have patent PENDING on there modules for years....
they probably "by accident" lost the patent denied letter and are still waiting....
they proberly had a shock at the costs involved in maintaining the patent each year
and thought better of it, and just leave the patent pending inplace to scare people off

It doesn't say whether its been granted or not so I've contacted the Patent Office just out of interest. Theres a patent number but that could just be an application number.
I don't think this is some revolutionary idea. Maybe if its "pending" its because they cant get a patent. Seems I recall that you can not get a patent for something that someone skilled in the art might normally devise.
