Hi Guys,

Here is the topic of the Mini-LEM / Tinkering session i want to organise.
Just bring projectors, DAC's, laptops and tools you need.
We can build projectors, swap out galvos, adjust dichros, modules.
Let's all help eachother, build stuff, ask for help you need help with, sell your old stuff, buy new stuff.

Then in the end we could maybe do a (very small lase off), my working room is not really suited for that, but we could always point the lasers outwards of my livingroom, over a small pond in the back of my house...

So basically more a tinkering session / knowledge exchange meet than LEM, but hey, give it a name.

I will take care of Coffee, tea, Cola and Some beer, chips and candy and get some bread, ham, cheese jam and stuff so we can have a lunch together.

At evening we can get some doner kebab or fries, or chinese, or pizza (all in the shopping centre at 250m walking distance)...
(The Dinner is at own expense, just to make that part clear...)

Tools present:
Drill press, soldering irons, pliers, handsaw (metal), epoxy, glue, small metal pieces (alu).
Look Solutions Unique Hazer

You bring:
Projector/modules
DAC's
Laptop
Tools you need

I can provide transport to/from Amersfoort Central Station if you let me know beforehand, so i can pick the guys that need transport up in one go, so that people that come by car aren't waiting unnecesarily at my door ;-)
Please try and help each other out by carpooling etc.

I'll go for A)

LCM? Laser Constructing Meet?
LAM? Laser Assembly Meet?

30th of january is ok with me.

I will bring:
- PC with dac in it
- Laser projector
- Iphone
- fogger maybe

Edit: (to the message below) woa so a pic in a sig does work :P

A is fine with me, but 10:00 is a bit early.
I bring my projector and the new galvos and dichros.
Problem is i have to carry all that stuff, so i cant take my fogger for example.
Maby some pointers but whats the use of them during daytime and fun of them?
Unless someone requests i dont take them.

And ofcource my ipad and iphone, they are always with me*retardo

Edit: hey my sig just started to work:D

10.00 is just the start, if you want to come in later, no problem (except for the trip to me you will have to take the bus, since i want to be present to welcome the guests...)

Please don't bring any foggers, i have a nice hazer and it's not that i live in a palace like MasterPJ , so 1 hazer is more than enough to fill my 35m2 workarea ;-)
I do have a lot of nice tables of 60x120cm so i can create a nice working area if you need to solder something, or want to fit new galvo's.

Ok so 2 votes for 30 january, thanks guys !

I would prefer the 6th of februari but if there are more votes for 30 januari i will be there too. Does that make sense? I will be there!!!

i have blocked both data in my agenda, will sweeten up the family that papa has another laser party, can they stop by to take a peek? (and leave after half an hour hehe)

Michel

Post updated, now let's wait for the other Dutch Laserists to respond (Dixiscan, McCarrot, CyberB0b, Laserwinkel, Francesco, SrS, Stoney3K, -bart- etc).
Or Belgian or French or UK people (think it's a bit too far to drive, but you never know...)

Lol They'll come eventually don't worry.

Also I'm posting this on an other laptop which has one of the weirdest browsers there is I think.

It's called: lolifox

:p

at least it works to let you reply like INSTANTLY :p

Gawd bless the instant Internet !!

Yes but it's outdated and IE works at the same speed for me.

and also gawd bless instant pudding..... even though I hardly eat pudding *retardo

PudiPudiPudiPudiPudiPudiPudiPudiPudiPudi

.... I should not get off topic xD

Stay focused, Man !!

LASERS !! *retardo

Where are the others!
They must be afraid of me....
>:)

small bumpy...
i kinda managed to get the glue and dicho's off for the most part :)
Its almost a flat surface now.
How will those 3d dichro's be installed?
maby with screws on bottom?
Well then we also need some kind of drill that can make the holes in the alluminium plate.
if someone has one and could bring it, it would be awesome ^^
and i dont know for sure if mccarrot sends me the screws with the package he's selling me, but i think its included.
And i created a topic in the marketplace forum of PhotonLexicon, where i said i need a small broadplate because the galvo's are kinda stuck to the current broadplate.

Thanks :)

You need to drill and put a M4 taper in the baseplate to mount the dichro mounts.

so its called a baseplate instead of broadplate? i heard broadplate somewhere on LPF where i also ask questions sometimes about my projector.

i already have 2 drilled holes from the other dichro's. but one screw fell when i broke the dichro off, and the other screw is still pointing about 0,7cm out of the alu plate.

And i have no idea what a M4 taper is... :$ sorry im such a newbie  :(

I have a drillpress (Kolomboor machine in Dutch) and M4 taps and cutting oil.
So you can drill a hole in the base plate and put M4 thread in it.

@Maurice: can you answer my PM please ?

And my pm please hobbybob? ^^

Im glad you have the equipment:)

just saw this topic, you can count me in also.
since the 30th and 6th are both on sundays date doesnt matter for me :)

Great will put your name on the list for both dates.
As it seems now, it will be the 30th of January.

Will wait for SrS, Cyberbob,Zoof, Francesco and McCarrot if they can make it that day, else i will make it 30th.

Cant wait to see the big daddy projectors in about 20 days :D
I fired up my projector today with a room of fog for the first time.
And that pre-programmed shit show was running...
And that shown me something...thay this is seriously my hobby:D
Its really great to see the numbers count down, it creates a tunnel effect:D
And then the pacman of the end, with so low count of points it doesnt flicker :D

Wow cant wait to have these galvos upgraded and install new dichros:)
I only saw the green color since i removed the old dichros^^

And i burned the glue today. Its almost a flat surface now, but not there yet.
Im thinking about some "schuurpapier". Is that a good option?
The fire doesnt help anymore to get is even more flat.

I hope you are talking about the baseplate there BorgqueenX ?
Sanding your dichro's sounds a little silly to me. So i guess you mean baseplate.
Yeah you can sand it down to make it flat, it's important that the new dichros be placed on a flat surface.

i already removed the dichro's :)
Yes im talking about the glue on the baseplate.
there is a little bit left on it but cant be removed by fire and rubbing toiletpaper anymore.
and all there's left is smooth now. no spikes and stuff.
if sanding(that was the word i forgot:p) would help, il try to do that :)

About the dichro's that im planning to buy of McCarrot:
(these: http://lasershowparts.com/store/inde...&productId=153)
Those are adjustable even when mounted right? then it doesnt matter alot if its a 100% flat surface they are mounted on? or what am i missing here?

And another thing i hope wont be a problem is the small space between the laser modules. will the new dichro even fit in?
Look at these photos...the linked page above says the mounts are 25mm but i have no idea if they mean the glass or the whole mount.
http://img375.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=distance1.jpg

there is not much distance to put the mount of the dichro's...
And the lasers are kinda hard to move, at least i am having problems with it.

Thanks!
oh and sorry for going a bit offtopic here. i guess the minilem already started a bit in this topic :P
but its good to finish these problems before i go there so there wont be any trouble with tinkering when i arrive there :)

EDIT: oops the photos were not linked good. now fixed.

Okay now im getting afraid.
A galvo mirror broke and i dont know why, didnt do anything odd to it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68v5aOmdatU
I need alot of faith now in 30 january^^

thanks:) its just that the manufactor used alot of glue and i have no idea if some parts are even removable without force..
For one is the galvo block.
Anyways good night everyone:)

MY advice:
"DON'T MESS WITH IT NOW"

wait and let others on the LCM look at it.

Alrighty will do..

happened to me once a few days before a show, first no idea what happened, saw a line instead of a graph, closer look at the galvo mount revealed that one of the mirrors fell off, the days before i noticed a wave-like pattern on my lines and was already thinking of what this could be. My mistake was that i set the scanning speed too high in combination with a too wide scan angle.
I repaired the mirror by glueing it back on, before that i covered the mirror with "first contact", this is a cleaning liquid that you can peel of later to prevent glue attaching it to the mirror surface. Two component glue seems to be the best and make sure it is glued back in the center position. You also have to retune the set afterwards and the tip i got for the next time is to replace the mirror by a spare one, heating up the old fragments with a soldering iron or so seems to loosen up the glue and making it easier to gently scrape off the old mirror parts. Again a retune would be advised.
I know ledfreak3d on this forum, he lives in Hoorn, is one of the people who are able to repair such things for a reasanoble fee.
I don't know about the people coming to the lem at hobbybob if someone can/wants/dares to repair it.

I want your galvos hand them over*retardo
I dont really need the galvo's repaired, the guys who help me at the lem can have them as a thanks^^. Dont know who that person will be:)
The broken galvo mirror just made me know that there is no way back then taking on the challenge to upgrade and i fear there might be stuff that cant be done for the price or something similar.
Im going to purchase galvos no matter what, before the 30th.

i have spare galvo mirrors...
if u want i can take it to the LEM

That won't be me XD
I still am a noob with the hardware part.
I know how serveral things work, but thats it.

I do like to see that tuning though.
I read the whole tuning guide before.

It would probaly be nice for the guy that gets my old galvo set..but i do not wanna spend money on something that does not has a use for me anymore...
Anyways a nice offer:)

Who wants to swap my galvos and get a nice 15k stopid old galvo set?:p

Hi all!

I am new to the forum, and new to lasers and laser-displays in genral and recently bought my first scanset!
(from laserwinkel, nice to see you here ;))

I would like to come to the LEM very much to talk to some of you guys, and gain some 'field experience'.

Thing is I'm not available 30th jan, only 6th feb...

hey there and welcome to photonlexicon:)

i already planned the 30th in for this event, and already planned the 6th to go to some friends :(

i could shift it but maby we can set the date soon?
i'd appriciate it.

If it's the 30th I'll be there.

I don't mind it being the 30th or the 6th
On the 30th I actually had an other meeting I was planning to go to, but scratch that :) lasers first :)

To be used on the minilem:)
When im forced to extend my projector on some way.

All you guys are free to use it as well for no cost:)
Thank my dad:)

OK guys, sorry i was away for a few days...
Had to do some stuff... still have to clean up the work room, it's a messy mess right now.

I think we'll go for the 30th of January since most of the people are able to make it then (sorry S060340...)

Will sent invitations to all people that subscribed. If you do read it now and still want to come over, you more then welcome to, but the date will be :

30 JANUARY 2011

Well that's too bad,
I'll just wait for the next LEM than!
Maybe at the time I have my own laser to show you guys ;)

cheers

Edit: think about the irony, I'm unavailable the 30th because the next day I have an exam in quantum optics; the science used to produce laser light ;)

Maybe i could ask some dutch people @ LPF?
If you like the sentence "des te meer zielen des te meer vreugd".
They will probaly like laser projectors as well, but most of them are in the laserpointer world. But the people i ask are ofcource not idiots shining at everything they like.
Just a idea, just say no if it will be to busy, if you hate lpf(:p) or something else;)

@s060340: glad you also like lasers and looking forwards to meet you as well in the future.
Everyone who likes lasers is a nice guy, at least we have seen the true light! *retardo

I like the sentence, but it could be that maybe Cyberb0b comes along as well (if he felt up to it) and maybe Francesco ?.... And i am somehow still hoping that Dixiscan can make it, as he is the one i know from the start when starting with lasers.
So if you don't mind, let's keep it to PL people for now.

I will stack up a lot of stuff in crates against the walls freeing up room so we could be in all together. But the tables and workbench take up also a lot of space.

I think we have a nice lot of people know ?

:) the first I knew with lasers was dnstje.

But he can't be there.
as he is going to something called tsunacon (wich is on the 30th)

I was planning on going too at first, but I go for the mini-LEM instead this time :)

You coming by train ? Or will your private chauffeur drive you to the LEM in the Maserati again :o

I think the chopper this time *retardo

*arnold schwarzenneger: "Get in da choppah!"
hmm Im not sure actually.

I think I will be going by train.

I managed to get a ride with the Carrot taxi. See you all on the 30th.

Oh right thanks for reminding me of that.

I'm not sure if I'm going by train or car yet.
but If I'm going by car then does someone live near rijswijk that needs a ride? :)
