Rebuild RGB

For hobby use i put together the following components

1 x DT40K pro scanhead with drivers and psu
2 x OneStopLasershop high end dichroic mirrors (one to reflect red and one to reflect green)
1 x 1W blue from Edison
1 x Quad 800mW Red from Edison
1 x 300mW Green from LaserWave (Stanwax)
1 x Mirror adjustable mount with mirror
1 x PT-Itrust connector board

See pic attached.
Yesterday Hobbybob and I spent a whole evening drilling the base plate and finished the entire setup which was previously constructed on an optical table like board.

Aligned the beams and did a first testshow looking very good, nice color balance but because it was already late i didn't had the time to shoot some pics/videos but will upload them soon.

That,s what we like to see. Only some heatresistive matblack paint to give it a nice finish would be good. It will give a pretty scratch resistant surface. Ask hobbybob he has my first projector with the same paint on it.

Nice lasers by the way  They seem very familiar*retardo

Can,t wait to see some beamshots!!!!!

Nice to see it built - looking forward to the beam pix

I would go the anodising route anyday - much more scratch resistant than paint and does not restrict the flow of heat from the modules for cooling. That said I am lucky to have an anodiing firm 5 mins away who are very good and very reasonable.

Anodising is the canines conkers, you are lucky to have a local shop that will do a quick cheap job, mine take weeks/months/years/decades.. O_o

A light coat of acid etch primer, de-nibbed then a micron or two of topcoat shouldn't cause a thermal barrier, rollering on 15 coats of Hammerite might do.

15 coats, your doing it wrong. one thick coat should be fine ;)

yes, made some decent progress in acquiring the right components, after playing with the optical breadboard i knew where to put things and created this spacey final setup.
Yes it is large but leaves room for an aditional red perhaps ;-)

Meanwhile i have connected it to the power supply, shortened a lot of wires and drew a picture where the AR glass window should be put in place, something for this evening.
Then i will put in 2 fan's with dust filters and start thinking about a section divider that separates the optics/lasers from the rest so it is less pollution sensitive.

Then i have to put in the connector for the ilda cable in the rear and add a keylock and stickers.

cant wait to see video's and photos of it running, and seeing what colors it produces:)

still find it very hard to create high quality photo/video, did some shooting this afternoon, will wait till it gets dark, color balance is superb, real nice yellow and high intense white.

Michel

What problem do you face when taking photo's?
exposure I guess right?
What you can do is not turn the exposure down.
Set it to it's highest.
hold the camera stable *DO not move*
record a short fragment of video it scanning a still frame.
Then Open virtualdub and lower the framerate A lot and blend the frames*
You will end up with a full scanned picture with no over-exposure. * (you export a small part of that blended video to an image )

the video is not a very acurate representation, in real life the graphics are much smoother.

hazer

got myself a hazer, found online a reseller that sold me a 1200 w version for low price, can't wait to put it to work in the garden and record my beamshow.

You will struggle outside unless you have a perfectly still day and a very high haze output.

The best outside amateur video I've seen was Hobbybob's Holiday BBQ video where he managed to use the BBQ smoke to good effect (I'm unsure if he added any smoke fluid to it).

However, he was very sheltered and even then there are visible breaks in the patterns in the video caused by smoke drift.

Remember this is a time lapse so disguises some of the problems but the drift is visible:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYzT42ukYCg

Nevertheless, an excellent video and one that I love. :D

Indoors is definately better if you manage it.

hazer

yes i agree but bear in mind that i do not have a separate room to fill with smoke in my house, best i can do is the garage ;-) (more barn actually and very small)
so to prevent my wife and children from being smoked out of their living room i will have to take it outside or they will apreciate my hobby a lot less.
If i don't get an opportunity to attend a school disco or something small elsewere i will not have the opportunity to film the beam show capabilities, call to action for the dutch enthousiasts, if you know of an event where i could put my build to work let me know, more than happy to attend.

Michel on my lem is hardly any wind :)
so in that case your hazer can do it's job properly.
I had a lasershow outside here.
(thanks to dnstje)
He had 3 projectors and just 1 fogger.
Worked great, but the fog didn't spread well.

Thats why I will have fans to blow the fog towards the building, the building will prevent the smoke from being blown further but also acts as a sound wall,
It bounces sound back so the speakers will likely be best positioned facing away from the house :)

But hey that's not of importance in this topic.

I want to see some beams already! *retardo

1.2w states the video?
Your first post tells there's more...

But its a nice demo. Are they the pangolin test show or something?:)
Next some photos of inside your projector?:) with fog and maybe beams?
03-04-2011, 01:45
masterpj

LOL with my fogger I fogged the whole house a few times.
Did that a few times and heard nobody complaining here.

Michel if you use fog made with glycerine *I know a hazer uses a different kind of fluid*
But in if you use a fogger with glycerine then tell your wife it's good for your skin.
I'm sure you do know that glycerine is good for your skin? However avoid contact with amonia (I think it was amonia )

Wow thanks man !
That "video" was shot by my friend Rachel. It was 1100 pictures taking with tripod.
The Smokemachine was a old barrel, filled with wood and lots of wet grass and leaves and an old fan blowing into it.
We all smelled like smoke that night but had so much fun doing it.
Will bring my lasers this year again, those 10 days are always so much fun.
Since i have to cook less, since other people offered to help me out with that, i might start building my new RGB there this summer. But we'll see.

Thanks again for the compliments very nice...

I also fabricated a window holding plate for Michel on my CNC machine.
My first useful piece of work, not counting the engravings i made for my mum and dad, which are nice for display but not really part of something great.
Great practice and what needed to be 11mm was 11.04mm Enough precision for me (for now).

@PJ, i can bring the Unique hazer 2.1 again, love it, used it to fill a 90x50m room and also worked great on the Ilpendam LEM.
So if you need it, let me know ;-) and i'll bring it along.
Man, All this LEMs are driving me crazy, looking forward to one and then another one pops up.

So far my "touring" schedule

Master PJ's spring lem, if he chooses a date (not to soon hopefully...since i am busy until April !
UKLEM 10 April, hotel booked, ferry booked
Showlem July , made sleeping arrangements, Easyjet Booked
UKLEM 11 September, hotel booked

All my vacation days are planned, have 4 hrs left for this year ;-(

hey check out that cool cnc made window holder.
Ah ok, it's only a square piece of ally with a hole in it, but it's f....n' precise !
And it's cool and prevents the wooden projector to catch on fire ;-)

I love this WASER build (Wooden LASER;-) Had fun helping you building it Michel !
You bought some quality stuff from various and have a clear vision of where you want to go, with an eye for quality, i like that.
Like your build dude ! Job well done !

Looking forward to the next tinkering session.

things to do

still have several items on my wishlist

key switch
emergency stop button
ilda board with colour correction board
scansafe/fail something
training/certification on lasershows and safety
even better software
fb3/qs shows (with correct music)
paint my wazer with black paint and add nice finish for the time being
move to alu casing

so lots of time to spend on this crazy hobby
03-09-2011, 02:04

Isn't that great ? Always something to improve or put your time in, making it better or nicer.

What i like about it, is that all stuff i like comes together in laser: graphics, software, electronics, cnc (since last month), drilling and tapping, soldering ;-) and computers.

Yes i did, stupid me, small family crysis, had to send it for repairs, i knew of the option in quickshow but aperantly didn't set it correctly.
Expensive lesson learned.
