There is a 49-person limit due to the fact this is a private event, but this should be fine for us.

General Info:
The venue is a club called "The Spot". Widmer Brewing's Public House is right across the street which makes it a very good option for dinner on Friday although there are endless options with downtown Portland just minutes away. The venue is easy to secure so we have the option to leave some gear there overnight without worrying.

3-phase/water is available and the venue also has a loft area we can use for *something*. Not sure what, but it's there in addition to the main area which is basically an "L"-shape.

PAYMENT INFORMATION:
$40 gets you admission to all three days (June 10th-12th) and an official NWLEM 2011 Flashlight, if you paid by May 31st. As capacity is limited, guests are asked to pay $20. I spoke with the venue and they tell me the weekend of the 11th is good. If something of the 'unforeseen' variety occurs between now and that weekend, we have a backup venue close-by that also has 3-phase/water.


I figure I'll lock this in here today or tomorrow unless there is an objection to June 10th-12th.

I should note that each venue has a maximum capacity of 50 people due to fire-code. Otherwise, an event-permit would be needed. I might be able to get around this, but even at SELEM, we barely had 50 people in attendance, so I don't think this will be an issue. If it looks like we'll be surpassing the 50-person mark, we'll have to all pitch in to cover the cost which would be minimal, considering that the venue is close to free.

I *hopefully* will have a coherent purelight star as well as a couple aircooled argons.
If anybody needs a crash pad for an overnight stop north bound or southbound,Im a couple miles off of I-5 in Sacramento.

The warning sign is a pretty good idea. The logo needs to be embroidery-compatible though.

There was also an idea to have an outline of the city with Hood in the background, possibly with lasers coming out of the top of the two towers of the Convention Center. I like this idea but I'm not sure I could pull it off myself. (credit: Nate)

The venue is confirmed for June 10th-12th.

I imagine we'll load in on Friday the 10th in the later morning and load out on Sunday evening.

I'll get some pictures of the venue next week. They're installing what appears to be a hardwood floor in the loft and there are other projects under way like painting so it appears the Spot will be even nicer by the time our event comes around.

Realized I have a commitment saturday morning, but i will be packed up and leave town before noon. This will be fun!!!! Need any help with anything?

Hey all,

I will make it a point to go get some photos of the venue so we can start thinking up how to arrange everything on the 10th. I'm told all of the tall walls are going to be painted black here soon which should be a good thing for us as they are currently off-white.

Should I look into renting tables and chairs or do you think we can figure this part out ourselves? I have a few tables I could bring, but no chairs really.

Anything else we should try to get squared away? As the T-minus-1-month mark approaches, I'd like to get the plan together to avoid any last minute snafus that have a habit of popping up.

This is looking pretty good though. The last time we did this here, we didn't have half as nice of a venue to work with, so we're off to a good start.

I am not going to bring as much stuff, so I can load them all into the truck.

How about this. First off, if you think you're going to make it to this, PM me and I'll make up a list of confirmed attendees.

It seems we might get away without renting any tables/chairs if enough people have a few to bring. I've got three tables and a few chairs I could rustle up myself.

I'll make a concerted effort to do an official walkthrough here soon and snap some pics of the venue sans-party-goers to give an idea of what we have to work with.

If nobody else does, I'll try my darnedest to come up with some sort of logo and figure that end of things out by the one-month mark.

I should be able to find a small table and chair for myself. Unfortunately much in the way of gear. Just a laser. :)

I was thinking about using SketchUp to get some shapes arranged for an outline.. I'm sure something will materialize in time.

In other news, I intend to snap some pictures of the venue on Saturday, if I can manage to get in there before a show starts that night.,

I found 'Spreadshirt' a great Co. to work with, and their T-designer app quite intuitive and powerful http://www.spreadshirt.com/create-your-own-t-shirt-C59 - once you pick a T / color, etc, you can go right to 'upload your design' (PNGs or JPGs work-best) and preview how it will look / scale / re-position, etc... And you can price-out with various Ts, to see if ya wanna drop the extra bux on 'beefy-T's or not, etc... Add-in all yer sizes, etc, and cart it all up - really, a snapola... :cool:

The tech-people were great to work with, and the whole-process was very cost-effective - and the quality? well, I think you can judge that from your closet... :D

AS-to a 'design', well, I will have a fair-bit of 'downtime', daily, from the 31st till the 10th or so, since will be on a 'lasertising' gig in ID, with nightly shows, but will be sort of 'hotel-bound', daily, - So, likely could werk on some ideas fer ya, in-between sales-efforts / etc... :cool: That is, IF that is desirous - I don't wanna 'butt-in' or be more obnoxious than I already-am... :) And since I'm sure you'll ask, sadly, I won't be able to come-up, cause we have a gig in PA on the 10th... :( but :), ya know?

Here are the landmarks we're trying to include in some sort of stylization possibly resembling the Frasier logo, more or less:

The Fremont Bridge. As you can see from the pictures I posted recently, it's right next to the venue and is easily one of the most prominent Portland landmarks.

Mt. Hood. It goes without saying that Mt. Hood, while a number of miles away, is also a very notable Portland icon.

The matching towers of the Oregon Convention Center. Because when we look at them, we wonder if lasers could be shot from them. (Goal of many.)

So there you have it. I'm hoping to get polo shirts made and have the logo embroidered, hence the Frasier logo idea -so the design should be simple. Someone had an idea of having lasers coming out of the Convention Center towers -this idea I like.

What we can use the loft for is that if we attach a projector to the top, facing straight into the loft and a couple of mirrors to redirect the beams in different directions (but close to it's ceiling :P

Probably. They don't take up that much room. The decision is whether or not to bring the HeCd.

I haven't made any progress on my lumia except picking up a couple of other lasers :(

Buying parts is almost the same as building lasers, right ;)

So here's an option: We might have just enough time to either switch to flashlights or offer both options.

The more I think about it, the more I like the flashlight option. This might be because I don't currently have an awesome, pocket-size flashlight...


So, if you'd like a flashlight instead of a T-Shirt, voice your opinion ASAP and send the LEM fee in, also ASAP. (The flashlights would need to be ordered pretty quick to ensure they arrive at Pat's in time.)

The flashlights in question would be SolarForce L2s and have two engravable surfaces that Pat has said he'd be happy to engrave for us. :cool: (Thanks to Craig for the recommendation.)

So, let your voice be heard. Time is of the essence. ;)

I have heard mention of the Jupiter Hotel (8 minutes from the venue on East Burnside)
Kennedy School (33rd near ashworth)
Those are your not cheap options, reviews for the Jupiter said to use travel websites that give discounts. Kennedy school is probably full and the rates are not the best in town.
