UK Meet ..anyone suggested this yet ?

Must admit i am jealous of all this talk of a Florida meet ........all that equpment and a chance to play with different software and just the chance to talk "lasers" with other people who understand the passion ,the draw ... and of course the pain the damn things can cause !

Anybody interested drop in here ...never know there might be enough of us ! with suggested dates and possible locations.

I would be prepared to travel pretty much anywhere in Uk .might be a good idea to tie something in with one of the electronics/lighting exhibitions , maybe after it closes or next day ? ( IE PLASA - ..sept 07, held in londons earl court . i understand theres normally a few lasers and laser companies kicking about ) ) http://www.plasashow.com

Further I would be prepared to organise a venue in Scotland if theres enough interest but as it likely not to be central to most folks not sure if it would be suitable ..but i am certainly up for it !

Well 100% of us say Manchester, maybe because my vote is the only one :lol:

Most people would suggest Birmingham is central to England, Manchester is probably central to England/Scotland though.

I know there are a couple of members from round here, there is me (Bolton), Banthai (Lytham/Blackpool) and I remember speaking to a new member from Warrington/Cheshire too.

Seriously though , could be a good venue , cheap accomodation , plenty
to do if people are bringing family etc ........any ideas for a venue ? !

Overall though i think if there was a venue / area decided on and a date people
could work to it and might bring more people on board.

I will vote South to even the voting, but with enough notice I can get anywhere, and should add that I never need much of an excuse to go to Blackpool, as it is fully equipped with both roller coasters, and chips! :)

Blackpool .... would be a great place ....
the Pleasure beach has a show that runs twice a day ( hot ice show ) that utilises a whitelite krypton laser as part of the show
and also has some great lighting and special effects .... maybe if the ukmeet could be organised during the summer we
could include the show as part of the agenda

and i would gladly help organise it .... the only problem i have at the moment is that i will be out of the country
for parts of the year and my company have not given me ant definate dates that i will be away and for how long :(

but i will look into it .... unless people want it elswhere ?

If it is in summer it gives a great excuse to bring the family too, the kids will love the pleasure beach, the show tickets are included with the pleasure beach tickets. :)

I will have to double check with the pleasure beach to see if they are still using the Laser in hot ice
as watching the show reel in jimbos link ... i did not see any lasers

but the Eclipse show reel .....lasers galore :D

EDIT .... now looking at the web page it seems the Eclipse show is no longer at the pleasure beach but is
now on tour around th UK ....
there is a new show at the pleasure beach called FORBIDDEN so maybe they will use the lasers
as they will be using the eclipse theatre

You can see a brief glimpse of the lasers near the end of the clip that Jombo linked to. The shot only lasts for a half-second or something; it's easy to miss. But the promotional page does list lasers as being part of the act.

I agree that the touting Eclipse tour looks like it has more lasers though.

Too bad I won't be traveling to the UK anytime soon. That looks like it would be a cool show to bring the family to.

The Eclipse laser show was excellent, probably the best I've seen. Very well produced.

The Hot Ice one is ok, but you have to be seated in the right place, and the Hot Ice show itself is a cheese-fest! :)

Karl (Banthai) had sort of been nominated to do the organising but unfortunately he will be leaving the UK so he wont be able to organise it now.

We have had the offer of a pub and club in Leicester which is pretty central in the UK (as you know) or I can get the use of a pub in Bolton.

No dates have been fixed yet but it will most likely to be July/August.

Hiya Folks , glad to hear the idea of a UK meet has not lost too much momentum ( Karl ..all is forgiven no need to stay in thailand too long ! ) ..... personally travelling from scotland , which i hope to do , I dont have too much of a concern over travelling , be it 4 hours drive, 6 hours drive its all much of a muchness.
Fluffs venue certainly look ideal especially with the availibilty of lasers on hand , food on hand , beer on hand , RGB , Pangolin ( drool !)

Anyways i am out of it being so far away but hope either Fluff or jimbo decides to take the inititive and throws down a date to work to or discuss ,

1 . Weekend or weekday ?
2. Meet hours ?
3. 1 day or 2 ? late night ?
4. which month

The earlier a dates confirmed i think the more chance of people turning up as they can work round it , more time to plan.


and rememeber whoever takes it on board gets the honour of naming the event !!! worth it just for that eh !!

If this meet is to get of the ground , someone will have to wear an " organisers hat ."

I can supply facilities and kit, but am mentally busy and don't have a lot of free time to put it together. If any other venues are available around the country, please let it be known on here, as leicester may not be convenient for some.

Anyone care to step up to the plate :) ?

Personally i am keen but it loooks like it needs someone near fluff to step up to the plate and possibly meet/talk on phone with him to firm up some details and report back to us all and be his buffer ... so we can call you fluffers buffer !

Its very good of mark to offer his facilities ...... FOR FREE .... space to play , lots of lasers to look and dissect .If I understand corect mark is a projector distrubuter so from pictures I have seen lots of space so it seems ideal
! with access to food and nightclub environment i cant imagine a better facilty ... so think hard ! can this opportunity be missed ?

Who else is up for going ?
Whois going to be the buffer ?

I too was wondering this although I am as guilty as any for not putting in any useful info. I Would love it to happen but would not like it to be the date suggested (8th july) as its a little too close for anyone to organise and I will not be able to make it (i have to go and watch a bunch of overpaid blokes driving very expensive cars round in circles for 2 hours in Northamptonshire).
I cannot offer the role of organiser for this but am willing to help in anyway I can once the ball is rolling to try and make this a reality.
Any more notions anyone ....

Jem/stanwax , from the replies looks like nothings happening , shame sounds like mark has the ideal facilty ..and for free ..look at the trouble they were having for salem ..heavy prices .... we really should be ashamed of oorselves for not jumping all over marks offer and taking it up with great enthusiam!

I kinda guess it would take at least 10 of us to make a meet worthwhile ?

If theres enough interest i will speak to mark and try and arrnage something

The club I have access to can be used anytime apart from Friday and saturday Nights, for obvious reasons.

If we can fix a date, I can check the pub calender and see whats available.

I'm sure Andy from AC Lasers would come, he's only 5 miles away from me ! I may be able to persuade some laser pro's to come too !

I'll also have a new set of kit in a couple of weeks, so lots to look at.

I'm having a clearout of optics, cases mounts and diodes, so you could grab a serious deal wwhile you play :)

AT this point EVERYTHING is provisional , this is just an excercise in seeing if theres enough numbers prepared to go , please throw out ideas and plans for the day to appraoch mark about .... IE / i think it needs minumum 10 people turning up with some form of kit to make it worthwhile ..do you beleieve it needs more / less ..any thoughts on the timings 1day/2day , a week ( only joking )

PS/To help get you salivating ..just think if we can get 10 people to turn up with kit .. some will turn up with 2/3 lasers ..lets say consrtatively thats 15 lasers and mark has already explained he had loads of kit kicking around ............. we could be talking 20 lasers in the same room here ! Mark,although the club aint available on weekend nights would it be accessible by day ? and then we go for dinner and move venue after 6 or somehting like that ? I realise you are very busy and dont want to organise event as such but I cant see anyone else popping out the woodwork to make this happen ..... all you need to do it detail a rough itinery of where we all need to be and when ..that should be enough ..the rest i am sure can be worked on as we go along .

I'm telling you guys - if you've got the venue nailed down the rest is as easy as pie.

Witness all the problems we're having over on this side of the pond with SELEM. Trust me, if you've already got a place to meet, you're 90% there!

Given how much fun we had at FLEM back in January, I *really* want to make SELEM happen this summer. And since you UK folks haven't had a gathering yet, maybe you don't realize what you're missing. But trust me, once you guys get together, you'll want to do it again.

Here's hoping that we *both* manage to pull off our laser-geek meetings this summer!

First off i am up for wakefield or leicester , either i will do my best to be there and its an awesome offer from you to subsidise the event .

So you folks can add to me to either list , lets hope theres enough interest to get either off the ground . I have just scanned the members list and Pmd anyone i thought was in UK so hopefully we will get a few more members joining this thread and offering to come along .

Have you set in your mind a kind of minimum number you would like to see come along with kit to make it worthwhile ?

BTW just spoke to andy con on MSN , he might well still come along so you can add him as a "maybe"

Hi Guys

Best day for the club venue would be Sunday. I could make sure its all clean from the previous night, but we could do pretty much what we want with it, from about midday to whenever.

I should have about six lasers available 500mW-2Watt rgb , and a lot of bits and pieces >:)

Obviously , there is plenty of power, music and smoke machines , so its the best venue i can offer. I will have to check on the water situation, but should be ok for the gas guys. Let me know the power requirement and water flow rates for any gas units.

Oh, And a bar !

And my own pub is about 1/2 a mile away, where good food can be had all day :) .


I also have no problem with Jems alternative, if others find it more convenient than Leicester. Hopefully it will stop raining long enough for people to get to Wakey , with using dingies !!

I hope something comes together ! Back to work now :(

Hi folks, I'm in Rotherham so either Wakefield or Leicester is good for me, Although Wakey is nearer! Not That I've any thing to show you guys at the moment, still developing! But would be great to see other Laserists! I quite like Jems idea, with the room and sunday lunch, Yum!
I have got a mobile disco set up I could bring if music and mics if required. Its PC based (PCDJ, Virtual DJ) and has Mamba Black installed on it, as well as the medialas usb box, As well as the velleman DMX usb adaptor and Freestyler DMX software.
