Going through the suggestion box it makes me happy to realize that quite a few of these can and have been addressed by the new forum software.
With that being said: We still need some new stuff.
I need a list of things that need to be done, like breaking of the forums into sub forums, hardware/software specific forums.
Pretty much anything that should be done to keep this place from getting stagnant, so please fire away.
Make a flash base laser show software... That's too far isn't it? :o I'm still tryin to keep up with what's here.
Hello
i feel if you have a forum for each sub software available people who own that software or are considering buying it will graduate to that forum to get help or offer help ...... at the moment these forums are pretty sepcialist in hardware but people need a lot of help on software too!
Likely problem is theres so mnay softwares available yo could end up with a huge list of forums to do it properly ...and a few will likely get very few posts which never looks good to visitors .
Appearance is important and thats another issue with breaking the fourms up in to subcatogories a lot , a generic software forum will look busy , a sub catagory forum will attrract a lot of attention to certain sections and make other sections look quiet .neevr a good thing .
Personally though i would like to see individual forums for indivdual softwares , partly as an easy reference to whats actually available.
Ideally with a sticky at top if each sub forum on softwares about where its available , typiv#cal prices and a review of its pros and cons.
Same for DACS of course but they are quiet closely related .

Hey Spec!
How about on the main page instead of having "last post" have "new posts" (from the last couple of days or so..) -(don't know if that can be done or not) --so we can all see at a glance what's been put up recently.
Steve
Have a good one:)
Hey Jim
Well I was kinda thinking about having them so that you could see under which category, so you dont have to go thru ALL the categories..to see all the new posts..
--if that makes any sense--:)
Steve
Yep, I see what you meen.
Jim
How bout a "report post" button so we can point out spammers to you, instead of you having to look around for them, if looking for them is a hassle to you. cruch and I can have contests to see who gets to the most first...
hehehehe.....
You'll never guess what that little exclamation mark is for at the top right hand of each post is for :D:D:D
I thought you would have been the first to spot it
Jim
I wonder what will happen if we report admin?
I think I'll try.
;)
Jim
Well I've just reported Admin, lets see how long it takes him to respond.
Jim
Running a bit slow today... yea, got the reported notification in email, pretty neat and i'm glad to see i got the settings right for that feature.
:o I guess it needs to be a bigger button... :p
You just need new glasses ;)Quote:

I'll order a battery for you when I send for one for my LaserCheck, I dont think you should need to throw away glasses just for the sake of a $10 battery. :D
Jim
Not quite sure if this is the right place...... But.......
How about a 'Sticky' thread or sub section that can act as a Glossary of common terms of items used in lasers and projectors etc.
Things such as Dichro's, Galvo's, Nanometers, Diffraction Gratings, Pump Diodes, Beamsplitters, Polarisation, Tem00, Wavelength, KTP, etc, etc.
I'm not saying that I personally don't know what all the above are ;-)...
However, I do think this would be an invaluable rescource for any newcomers who would be able to look in one single thread for an explanation of all the common language that is sometimes taken for granted by those who have been in this game for a long while. Some of the common achronyms used are particularly difficult to find reference to.
There could even be a section that lists each individual item used in Lasers/Projectors and where people have purchased them from, what they paid for them and what the part numbers are, this would be Fantastic for newcomers like me :D
How about it folks....Admin...... ANYONE ????????
Cheers
Jem
That's a great idea Jem!
Spec had talked about starting a laser-related Wiki, but I don't know how far that project got... Might be time to look into that again.
As far as the terms you mentioned, it's a great start. I'm certain there are posts in the archives already that could be used to form the basis of a wiki (or a FAQ, for that matter).
whatcha think, Spec?
Adam
Any more thoughts on my previous thread regarding a 'Wiki' style glossary of terms yet ????
It must get quite frustrating for everyone answering some of the same old questions time and time again when newbies arrive on the forum. It's even more frustrating for newbies having to search through old posts trying to find the bits they want. O.K., you can do searches, but quite often what you're trying to find is out of context.
I realise a 'Wiki' can be a lot of work, so how about we just start a sub section called something like 'common terms used on this forum'. Everyone can then have a bit of input.
A new thread can be started for each 'term' and after the initial posting (which would contain a brief description) everyone can then add their bit to enhance the initial thread by posting their replies.
This way we should be able to build up a really useful 'library' of terms.
What do you think????
Perhaps when we have a load of 'terms' we can then edit the best bits out and start a proper 'Wiki'. That way it shouldn't be quite as much work to get it going.
Can a Moderator perhaps add a new sub section so we can at least try to get this going????
Cheers
Jem
How about a detailed drawing showing how it is all put together including footnotes with ref numbers--and making it a group project continuously modifying/improving it
ROUGH draft just to convey idea:
I think you're on the right track there, Steve-o!
Nice job on the pic, btw. What did you use? (Just curious)
Adam
MS Paint:rolleyes:
Thanks Adam
Needs alot of work tho..
I've thought long and hard about this... and I feel I need to say it... We need more smilies. I caught dave over at CPF...
Any chance you can snag the page of smilies from CPF? http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...s/thinking.gif PLEASE!!! :D I find it helpful to communicate with them. I'm not as good a talker as buffo. ;)Quote:

re: smilies.
Get me an image link or post them directly to the forum here and I'll add them.
Your best bet is to send me a PM with the link/whatnot so I don't lose them.
Allthat-
What were YOU doing over there??:D

As much as I'd like to test Metasploit on your box...
You are going to have to physically attach those images, or hard link me to somewhere i can get them. For example: CPF link to the physical image location.
Also: I will need to know what characters you want to map the image to.
i screwed up :o
be right back..

spec, here is the link to the CPF page, I'll PM it to you too.
I must confess that i waz there before I found here too
man, thats a shitload of smileys they got there... :D
Wow I never have even seen any of thoes!
I think Jem and Steve-O have hit on a great idea.
Since starting on here I have learned so much thanks to the generosity of many members.
Already I am finding words like Galvo's, 532nm,Dichro's etc etc are sliding off my tongue. A few weeks back I didn't even know what they were !! Thats all down to you guys ...particularly the regular helpers.. just gotta mention Buffo and Aiiji here... A big thanks.
However it would be good to have a 'central' store of basic information for us newbies. Sometimes you think, should I ask ?, is it a pain in the Arse to these experienced guys etc. Then someone has a PMS attack (grouch) and off you go trolling through trying to find that little idea you need. (of which there is heaps no argument)
I think go for it if you experienced guys are willing to set it up it would be great and very appreciated, might save you repeating yourselves week after week on the same question...
Ray:)

Thanks Ray, It IS a good idea and we ought to get it sorted.
I had intended making a sort of diary as I was building the projector, but somehow writing about building it wasn't as much fun as actually building it :)
So, my projector's nearly built now and I haven't written anything. Still, all that knowledge is now clear in my mind and all ready to help someone out if I can, I guess that's how it goes. I'll still try to write about my exploits at some time or other, but for now... i'm just enjoying playing too much :D
On a different note... That's a really beautiful part of the world you live in, but aren't you just a tad worried about that supervolcano beneath your feet ;-)
Cheers
