I picked up this new RGB module from Laserwave and just dropped it in a projector.
The problem is that the we can't get the lasers to modulate. When I apply power to the module the lasers come on at full power after a short delay.
We have tried shorting the modulation to ground as well as applying 5v to modulation as well, but we couldn't get the lasers to turn off or modulate.
Has anyone else picked up one of these modules??? or have the manual?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
-Sal
Read the manual.
There are switches to select modulation types ;)
Thanks Dave...
We were trying to set this up at NWLEM and did not have the manual (never received one with the module and didn't see it on the laser wave site).
We eventually (not me) found the TINY switches. Do you have a link to the manual or a copy of it?
-Sal
Those switches are TINY! I'm talking microscopic. I never would have guessed that they were switches. I've seen surface-mount capacitors that were larger than those things. You really need a 3X or better magnifying lens to see them.
Thankfully someone else at NWLEM knew that they were there and was able to see the tiny plastic protrusions for selecting which of the 3 modes of operation you wanted it to be in. And with the help of a very small pick, we were able to switch them to analog and get everything working.

How small is the module? How is the combined white?
Here's a blurry, overexposed shot of its output:

Here is a picture of those tiny switches:

I shared this thread with Bridge and asked him to post the manual for posterity.
I try and snag some pictures of the output with a real camera later this week when I have time (iPhone doesn't cut it).

so how do you like it?
The beam seemed nice, the white with the no modulation was a bit pink but nothing software could not cure... For the price the time saved not having to build and buy all the bits is fair. I have my box of parts I still need to use or I would be tempted... Okay I lied I still would not mind one *retardoQuote:

My reaction exactly!Quote:

Time to break out the magnifying lens...

I was caught out by this and suggested to Bridge they add this detail to the manual!!!!
Thanks Sal,
our people will do it soon, thanks for your good idea.
Best regards!

Replace the green diode with the 120mw one. When I suggested this idea to bridge the 50mw was the only one around. You'll have to increase current a touch as well. The idea was to make a lower power device you just add scanners to in order to get new people up and running cheap and quick. For the price I don't think you can build it yourself much less costly. Pair this with bill's 506 scanners and credit card amps and you should have a 200mw white light in a tiny tiny footprint for programming show material.
I'm using the 120mw diode a 170mw red and a 5.6mm m140 blue in my projector and it is plenty for the living room. I had to add beam expanders to get the blue and green in spec.
Hi Kecked,
Isn't the 120mw 520 a multi mode diode?
It is multi mode diode, but it's beam and divergence is really nice

That module you have should be great with the better green even more so. I use a 2x beam expander on the blue and ordered a 3x. I then run all of it through a 2x beam expander and the beam on the wall is rather close to single mode. I plan to change the expanders to expanding spatial filters. dpss is dead to me. Next time I go non diode will be the fiber lasers.
Anyway bridges module can be fit with the diodes I suggested and the driver can handle the current just fine. The idea of the all single mode low power module is to keep safety sane while people learn and to use as a programming projector. Pair that with the 506 scanners and you have a very compact safe intro device for people as long as a perfect programming projector. It should be so small and light you can take it with you and run it on very little power. Maybe even run it on batteries like 4 12V motor cycle batteries. (can't get around the scanner needs). You bought a jem!
Here it is the manual. thanks.
