So i got this funny little box without psu.
The manual says +24V, +5V and -5V..
The Pcoam driver box says +24V, +15V and -15V, which one is right?
The model number is N64040-75.1-8CH.
Im also curious if there is any way to test the function without blasting the argon *retardo
Markings on the Neos driver are correct. I cant remember the current requirements right now but its a few amps of +24 and +15 with I think less than 1A for -15 but maybe someone with a better memory can clear this up.
If you have another polarised laser then that can be used to test it. I have used mine with a he-ne in the past, but a diode would do. The setting switches on the front wont match a diode exactly but by picking the nearest wavelength then diailing in the fine tune you should get an idea if its working or not. The dials can be adjusted with power on just press the red button to 'actvate' the setting.
You will also need to adjust the cell using the bragg mount - fairly easy once you know what you are looking for. I would set one channel on full then adjust the whole cell untill it comes through strong. what you will have is the zero order beam and the 'switched' beam. The zero order will be strong and as you change the angle of the cell the zero order will fade and the 'switched' beam will get stronger. Lock the cell off then use the fine tune to maximise the beam. Gate the input on and off and the beam should switch. this will show its working.

Thanks Rob, so i guess i should try to find me a psu that gives me the 15V on both positive and negative side first. Any idea where? i found one 15V from china, but thats only positive voltage.
Ideally you want a multi output supply but if thats not possible 2x 15v and 1x 24v supply would do. to make +/- 15v from 2 supplies - assuming the - or 0v connection isnt earthed (a lot of switched mode supplies will not have the output earthed) then simply connect the - of one supply to the + of the second supply. that will give you 3 connections +15v 0v (where the 2 psus join) and - 15v. If doing it with 3 supplies then the - of the 24V should be connected to the 0v as described that will then provide you what you need.
You could do it all off a single 24v supply and use Dc-dc convertors to make the +/- 15. This would be smaller and neater but prob be more expensive.
Rob
i just emailed a couple of china suppliers to see if they have or if they can get me the dual.
if not, i will try your idea :) thanks mate, hope to get this thing up running soon :D
edit: ordered 24V supply and a dc/dc converter :)
second edit: 2x dc/dc converters
I dont wanna suggest that you dont know what you are doing but bear in mind, this laser when it works, (and even if it doesnt) is gonna be dangerous. And I dont mean the laser output. The electrical power connected to the live parts inside the head will kill you. They wont think about it or give you a nasty shock they will kill you.
Remember that.
Rob
Thanks for that.. i will make sure to have it properly grounded and keep my fingers off any parts inside it.
I work as an industrial electrician and will make sure to be careful :)

I do have a neos manual in a box I will try and dig it out soon.
One more thing there are cheap galvos out there only using +-15vdc that may fit your needs but I have doubts on the amperage.
..Honestly, your best-bet is the OEM PS from NEOS, which I just so-happen to.. ie: http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...427#post300427 ..Last thing ya wanna do it toast the 8ch. Driver.. they don't exactly grow on trees anymore.. ;)
fwiw..

How much are you asking for the driver or the psu?
..well, I'd suggest 'starting out' with just the PS.. I'd prolly let it go for $50. and, since it's well-less than 4 lbs, it can go in a 'Flat-rate Padded Envelope' (..in a tough inner-box, of course.. :) which will only be about $25-26.-ish, for shipping to Swedenlandia..Quote:

..I suppose I could *just* sell the Driver 'core' (the 'black box' on the lower right of the 'guts' pic..) and You could swap 'em out, but.. again, it's not going to leave here 'on the cheap'.. :)
Question, tho.. Does your 'driver-core' smell of smoke? Or, just the little PS-unit? You could certainly 'pop the cover' on the driver-core, and see if you see anything 'burnt' / take / post some shots.. It's not too-likely that the driver, itself, is fried.. I've seen those PSs give up the ghost, before, but it's pretty rare that the entire Driver-core goes, tho.. The indi-crystals / drive-sections can get blown, but even that's rare.. Perhaps a 'little more homework' can save you some werk / expense?.. :)
Lemme know if you deem the PS indeed-dead / this one will help ya out..
cheers..

Thanks mate, Ill take the psu, i don't think there is anything wrong with the driver, looks like new inside and it dont smell at all.
It was a VDR on the power inlet that went up in smoke on the psu.
Got some photos of the inside of the driver box :)
Drop me a pm with your paypal :)

Hey db -
Cool, but.. one more 'step'.. Compare these pix to the PS you-have, and let's make sure they're a 'match', connectors-wise.. *Should-be*, but.. it's not exactly like we're 'tossing this over the back-fence', ya? :) I couldn't make the shipment, today, anyway, and I'm on a flight / on gigs till Tues, starting in about 4 hrs, so.. Lemme know, and we'll 'ketchup' on it next week... :cool:Quote:

PS - Did-see yer 'imgur' linx, but.. for whatever-reason, browser is being a whiny-bit* and won't load the images  so.. I can't really see yer 'guts'.. Best you compare what ya got, to these..

the voltage is the same at least :)
Got some photos to compare with, looks like mine is a bit older. (and dead by now:)

Hey db -
..yes, at least we have that.. :) ..Looks like that PS put on quite the fireworks show! :p Prolly someone, at some-point, plugged it into 220 or something.. Or maybe 440.. ;) Anyhoo..Quote:

You can extract the pins from the molex on your-end, and simply 'match' the wires / pins up to the Pin-labels, and hard-solder / heat-shrink-boot them up, on this PS..
..Either way, should be able to at least 'get you to the starting-line'.. :) Obviously, we don't know, for certain, if there is 'deeper-damage', but.. I'd venture to say it's unlikely, looking at yer pix.. Looks like the 'fireworks' didn't get much-further than the 'entrance', there.. TBD, but.. I bet you'll be alright, once that Driver has a new-ticker..
Lemme know the 'next move'..

Ill try to repair the one i have, or try with the one i ordered from china. got the supply now and just waiting for the dc/dc converters :)
Hopefully i should get it up running soon :)
I guess i fried it with 220V as thats what ge get in sweden :)
..Soo, you don't want this one, now? :confused:Quote:

Will send an email to NEOS and check if its worth a repair.
And i can't use 110 volts equipment here without a transformer. O_o
What you you mean by 'handle it', did it give you more magic-smoke, or something? If it was simply 'unresponsive' / you could not measure any V deeper into it, don't forget the embedded-Diode connector-posts, coming into the Driver-core.. If one / more of those are blown, yer not gonna get too-far, regardless of 'who's PS' you hook-up to it / how new it is.. :pQuote:
