Dichro for mixing 445 + 462nm

UPDATED : found another source with even cheaper price, but efficiency is just a bit less good (still very good).

This is a great opportunity to have a very interesting price for a dichro to mix two different blue wavelengths regardless of polarization.

If we reach min 20 pcs the price would be 90€ excl. VAT. (102.50 USD)

- HR : 460-470nm
- HT : 430-450nm
- Efficiency : reflection >95% / transmission >90%
- Size : 10x20x3 mm
- AOI (angle of incidence) : 45°

Dichros will be shipped from Austria, so for EU members 20% VAT will be added to the price (total = 108€). For non-EU members : no VAT.

I've been out of the loop on this for some time. How are people combining them now? PBS? And, what's the efficiency of current methods as compared to this dichro?

You can for sure use a PBS to combine two different wavelength of blue but to properly make that you need 1x mirror, 1x waveplate, 1x PBS (so, 3 mounts).

AND of course with a PBS you can only combine two polarized beams, this is where a dichro is useful if you want to keep great beam specs at higher power.

With the dichro method, you can combine one non-polarized quad of 445nm with another non-polarized quad of 462nm, and end up with a 12W, <5mm and <0.8mrad blue beam >:)

Hehe nice to hear, for that price it's really a bargain, usually prices are more in the 3-400€/USD range! 120€ is even less than the cost of a good PBS + waveplate...

any chance of getting these in a round/mounted configuration?

I don't think so, only rectangle version... haven't you an extra brass mount other there to mount those rectangle optics? :)

I use the ones from Semrock and they work well for the 45degree AOI, but If anyone wants some that are coated for 90degree AOI, let me know, I have about 10 I can let go of for $100 each if anyone is interested.

So, is there definitely not enough interest to make this GB happen? That's too bad because the efficiency of this way is much better than a standard Waveplate+PBS solution, and may even be cheaper, so interesting even for combining 2 or 4 diodes...

About 488nm, usually those dichro are highly AOI dependent, so maybe by increasing a bit the AOI, efficiency could become great at 488nm... Still waiting on the answer from manu...

If they renew my contract here, at least two. If we haul in my non-PL friend who wants one high power system, at least three...

you can use a PBS without a waveplate... I use a PBS alone to combine 445/473 without issue

with the new manufacturer is round a possibility?

Sure but this way you have to rotate one diode 90° compared to the other one, ending with sort of a cross pattern, with one fast axis on each direction, not really the cleanest solution...

Yes you could have a round optic, but you need to order 50 pcs >:) I'm afraid this run is only for rectangle shape, as the dichro manu will make a custom run of only one shape. But have you considered the several other types of "small mounts" available out there? There is more clever solutions than the cheap brass mounts, like the one I'm using into this projector (spring based 4-axis) :

that's an adorable mount but probably out of my price range

for beams I don't think the + shaped beam will really matter much... but I am using it to combine 445/473 so the 473 gives me a nice round dot anyway :)

No they are really not that expensive, around the same price than the usual brass mount, I can ask for details if u're interested

Power should not be an issue with dichros, even with 50w because most of the losses are not absorbed by the glass, only reflected off the surface. How much power do you have in mind?

Well, so it seems that we will proceed to the GB anyway, despite not having reached the 20 pcs... I and another member will take on the surplus and sell them later (probably more expensive, so if you want them now, better buy them now).

Bridge, is this the M462 raw diode? If so, I'd like a couple.

Just a quick update, I thought we were ready to pass the order so I sent emails to everyone but Edison just told me that he wasn't anymore interested for his 4pcs so we need to hold back a little, as we are now 3 pcs away of the minimum order... Just wondering why you want to mix 445 and 462? 445 is all glowish compared to 462 462 is SOOO much nicer a color. I can see adding in 488 and 462 as separate lines r g b v Plus for the power available I just don't see the need for the power/. If you are doing beams you want 462 anyway and that is where you need power. For graphics 462 is what I like. I do have to say the white is a bit more white with 445 but that is all.

Hehe I believe it's rather a matter of taste. Personnaly I love 462nm too but I feel that it still lacks that deep blue / violets of the 445. Now why having to choose if you can simply combine both? :)

And don't forget that the main advantage of this dichro method is that you can double your blue power while keeping same beam size and divergence, no matter if the beams are polarized or not ! And at that price tag it's a no brainer >:)
