SELEM BUY/SELL

Less than a month and there hasn't been a buy/sell thread started so..... figured I would.
.
I'm seriously thinking about bringing a lot of stuff to sell. I know I have said that before but, I rented a bigger vehicle with the idea of having a purge of things I simply do not use. To be perfectly honest, I've probably been loosing interest with this stuff over the past year and while I'm not "getting out", I just don't find myself having any desire to set anything up and watch shows or, try to experiment with anything. I'll set stuff up for paid gigs but aside from that, it's really just a hassle and nothing has "wow'ed" me for a long time. I've half heartedly put some cues on timelines in hopes that a "show" will begin to reveal itself but, it's just simply not there. I think between the long grind of paying off monthly credit card bills, the being screwed to the tune of thousands from a few people in the industry, and the growing lack of excitement and passion I'm feeling towards the whole mess is pushing me in that direction. It's happened with other hobbies so it's no surprise that that I'm in the midst of general ebb and flow. I'm looking forward to SELEM of course but, not even with the same intensity (yet) as past years. And even SELEM has always been more about the people than the lasers anyway. I don't get a lot from just sitting and watching shows for hours and truthfully never have. I can do that at home.

There are a number of rather large items that will probably cause transport problems so I'll try to get those posted and only bring them if someone is buying them. Not everyone is going to be able to just take a flight case the size of a twin bed home on a whim! There is truly close to $200k of dollars tied up a mountain of stuff....

Brad you're a great guy. You know there's always a place for you here considering what you have done already for us. I mean... honestly I would be overwhelmed by the large amount of stuff you have that I might lose interest to not knowing what to do with myself. And there's nothing wrong with losing interest either... Humans like variety that's for sure.

If your curious I'm looking to expand my projector setup, I'm really trying to get into the multiple projector shows and am happy to keep building them, but would also like to have parts and or used projectors that I could look into buying. If you have any that you want to sell I'd be happy to buy one or two from you. I've been looking closely at the Kvant projectors and the ones from Lightspace. I really think those are nice.

Thanks! It's not like a total loss of interest or anything. I'm not going anywhere. This is still a business for the foreseeable future, in addition to something I do enjoy but, yes, there are ebbs and flows and it's just been awhile since I've really been passionate. I expect once I get to SELEM, I'll be wanting to buy half the shit other people have brought to sell even though I know better! But, I really do have far more parts for intended projects and projectors and such than I'll ever really use. Even in a legitimate large show. I'm never going to run all of the what.... 24, 26 or more projectors at the same time. I need to pare it down to what I actually use. As an example, I have 7 Plutos and have only used 2 at any given time for over a year, except for last SELEM. (That doesn't mean I'm suddenly getting rid of 5 >:) so don't start! LOL) I'm going to try and develop a list this week.

Don't have funds / immediate need for anything but I am interested in the leftovers

I could be interested in ac couple more projectors depending on what you have.

More importantly are you still up for Cariblem??

I'll check the gratings for you Sal and yes, Steve I am considering your PM regarding a Pluto. Much of what I want to concentrate on getting rid of may be better geared towards eBay than here as a lot is more traditional DJ lighting, some cheaper fog machines, maybe a couple T stands, par cans and such. Regrettably the laser projectors that I should get rid of are probably not as much of an interest here as they may be elsewhere. Things like the famous REKE 500mW RGB's from a few years back and such. I should probably move a couple ML-10's (maybe) and other stuff too. 6 port Laserworld splitter, fibre optic cables, etc. A 500mW Laserworld beast who's value is more in the case and flight case. Etc.

I have two Laser Power Corporation (Early Melles Griot) 2.2 watt green DPSS heads that are non-functioning. I believe the IR diodes are dead, only because in troubleshooting and using a camera (being careful) I see no IR leakage from the output. Would be interested in getting one working, might be willing to sacrifice the other. Does anyone have the parts for sale to fix?


I hadn't thought heavily about selling it all but I do have two Mobolazers Lil-G-Beams upgraded with ~800mw 445nm blues w/ DrLava drivers (hooked to analog POT for output control.) I've got one of the add-on scanner head kits for the Lil-G-Beams, and I've got a flight case (thick wood carpeted) for one. IIRC one yoke is home made. So on one hand I might be willing to sell the two, or the scanner system separately / flight case, or might be interested in buying original yokes for them. I could get inventory if interested. (Have 3 would sell 2.)

i'm kind of interested in a mobolazer. what sort of money are you thinking?

Most of the multilines will do >100mW at 10A, I know one of the 2214-40MLAs was doing around 160mW full tilt last time I metered it. Let me know.

One has been used once, the other is used 1x per week to play audio from youtube clips to a group of about 25 people. It's also been used as a PA for an officiant for 1 outdoor wedding ceremony on our patio. Sold originally for $149 each - $150 for the pair.
Ideal for taking a laser show to a friends house for a party when you need sound or, out by the pool and let your kid plug in their phone for music. These probably won't be brought to SELEM unless there is interest or a buyer.

These are brand new, never used for an event. I had a DJ bring one to a gig, thought it was cool and, searched like hell to find a pair. Finally got them and never remember to use them. The angles in my ballroom don't work to display these the way I envisioned. If I owned a club and could mount them exactly where they need to be to match my vision, they'd be great. $75 each or $125 for the pair. Probably not brought to SELEM unless there is interest.

Sooo.. these are powered, so I wouldn't need a pre-amp or a power amp, correct? I could feed my line-level out from the laser computer (beyond) directly to these speakers, and be good to go? How do you do run stereo to these then - daisy-chain? I'm interested.


In terms of selling, I'll likely be bringing down my APC-40 (Version 1) with Pangolin overlay for sale - it's in very good-to-excellent condition. I've barely used it, and I doubt I will in the future. $225.

I have a really nice "DJ" gear bag that holds the APC40 perfectly, as well as a full size notebook computer and lots of ILDA cables and accessories which I'll bring down with it,and will probably offer for sale also. Price TBD.

Correct. It's amp and speaker in one package. Even has a 5 band EQ. Inputs are RCA and XLR. So, basically an RCA cord and adapter from 1/8" stereo jack to RCA and you're golden. I don't know that these "daisy chain" like some powered speakers but, I could be wrong. You may have to run one RCA cable to one and one RCA cable to the other. Most of the time a DJ or whoever would be using a mixer and XLR cords. But, you'd be simply doing the same thing but with the laptop headphone jack as the mixer and RCA cables rather than XLR.

Thanks. I was looking at photos of the input/output panel, and I wonder if I can run L+R RCA jacks to one speaker for input, and then run one XLR from the output of that speaker to the input of the other for the other channel. Or does each speaker mix L+R into a mono signal?

Otherwise I'd have to come up with a crazy 1/8" phono plug to two separate lines with RCA connectors on each... and each line would have to be 20' or so to get good separation. Unless the XLR thing will work for stereo.

I'll look into it tomorrow. That would make sense. I would assume the XLR out is line level.

By the way, the only reason I'm selling them is over the weekend I jumped up a major class in powered speakers to QSC K10's at $1400 a pair and they'll be at SELEM. (Should arrive tomorrow.) I wanted originally to get them in time for FLEM as for the boathouse, there is no need to drag in the big JBL's and 60 pound power amps and such any more and the two of them will fit on the front seat of the car. The amazing amount of power and sound quality in such a tiny lightweight package is astounding. That's also the same reason for the mixer upgrade. There is one that I have wanted for about 6 years and bit the bullet and got it as well so, I don't need the 1622fx. Truthfully I didn't need the one I bought either... its just been a bucket list thing and since I was getting the speakers, said what the hell get the mixer too.

Hey Hank, Yes you can run L+R RCA to one and XLR to connect the two but it will mix each down to mono. Most all of them do it that way, including the new QSC's I got today. The only way to get true stereo separation is with a mixer or... the crazy 1/8" phono plug adapter to two separate line with RCA or XLR on them, in lieu of having a mixer. (I'd go the RCA cable route.)

Edit - (Or buy the mixer I listed too. >:))

I'm still interested. I guess it's really no different than running individual speaker wire to each speaker. I'd make or buy an 1/8" stereo photo plug to dual XLR adapter, and then run separate XLR cables to each speaker. No mixer needed. like this:

Well, Brad, thanks for all the extra info and pics, but I think that since I realized that both speakers need to be individually powered makes using these a lot harder in a normal back-yard setting -- I'd have to run power and signal to both. I'm now wondering if something just like this is available in a "master/slave" setup, where I can supply one master speaker with power and signal, and it drives the secondary slave speaker with running just one cable. These probably work great for indoors type events where there are plugs everywhere, but I think I need something a little different. Thanks again.

Depending on how loud you want the music, you may very well be able to get away with one in a typical backyard setting. You can see them or something like them at SELEM. These usually are used for two purposes - either a musician who is plugging in a keyboard or mic'ing a single instrument and is just using one plug. Or, a DJ who is probably going to be indoors with two of them and may only have them 12-15 feet apart and, a power strip with an extention cord is cheap.

Anyone do stage lighting? I have an SBT-90 LED I no longer need. I bought it for a spotlight project that I never got around to.

I know, but the purest in me wants real stereo and simplicity. I really wanted to buy them, but I think I'll try to find something more fitting since it's only something I'd use two or three times a year, if that.

SELEM better get here quick! I just realized I've dropped $2k on shit this week "just to get ready in case we need it". $159 a couple minutes ago on cables and adapters with Amazon. "Prime" is going to be the death of me!

I am interested in buying anything you could consider "DIY DPSS equipment".

6x fiber launches
6x 100 micron fiber in varying lengths with attached signal lines (db-15) for galvos
6x Fiber collimators
6x Precision Projection Intl remote fiber heads (small fiber fed heads with GM-20's and big mirrors)
1x 8-channel open-loop x/y amps in 2U box.

EDIT: forgot to mention, this rig is setup for the launches to drop right into the turret holes on a mobolazer :)

Anyone have interest? Any thoughts on what a fair price would be?
