CLEVELEM Starter

Clevelem,

Kecked can probably get us an auditorium.... Minimal fees, nice hotels, most things in walking distance, great food, good airport, Lake Erie (Aka Lake Beerie) , HGR Surplus, Electronic Surplus Inc, lots of custom beer breweries, and we're close to a couple of Canadian Laserists. .
!
Look who's in range.. Kecked, Polished Ball, CDbeam, Draco, Clickamouse, Rob, Dale, Matt,All them Lightwavers, Woodie if we can ever find him, One or two guys in Columbus, Dr. Lava if he visits his parents, Salty if he visits his parents etc....
Plus several "illegal" laserists who do shows in Cleveland Clubs etc...
!
I'd tend to stick to a weekend if possible.
!
Suggestions??? Dear Leader, aka Kecked, will be along any minute, I'm sure.
!
Steve

Let's rock and roll for the spring 2017. Winter is a non starter. I am pretty sure I can get an auditorium but we would have to pack it out each day. BUT let's see what we can do. maybe we can get this into the science center and make it a bit more public. But sure yea I'm in. ......in a UHAUL locker!

I could potentially make it. I got family in OH. All depends on the dates.

I could potentially make it too. Parents live in NEO.

Let's do this!
Cleveland is 3 hours from us...

yeah this looks interesting

Depending on dates, this could possibly be do-able. Cleveland isn't a bad drive for me. Roughly 5.5 hours. Used to run it on business years ago.

So be it. I commit to this. Give me a punch list of the needed items and venue requirements. We will give it our best try.

new here and new to lasers but id love to go--im in toledo.......

well you found the right forum, hang around a bit and get to know people, there are great guys in this general area

well thank you!

Following. This would be a bit more doable for me than SELEM. I know a couple other guys in NY that might be interested.

OK, I've dropped my Evening Masters classes for a while, so I actually have some minimal free time... Kecked?

Steve

It's a possibility for me, depending on dates.

I can tag along. We can split the gas given that you have a vehicle? Mine is still off the road until this summer.

I do have a truck but I'm not sure it's in the best condition for another trek to Ohio, plus that means I'd have to clean it out... lol. I'm willing to look into renting a car though. It might even work out to be cheaper since my truck only gets about 12 mpg.

I can rent the car then. I might be able to get one for 25 a day. My cousin used to give me that price but we're not on talking terms right now but I think I can still get one.

see what prices you can get. just a quick look for me seems it would be about $50/day. I could probably find something better if i looked for specials and coupons.

Get me a he specs for the size room and power. No water cooling for sure. These are classrooms. My place is going to be pretty costly. I don't get a discount.

I can possibly get us space in a great big, dusty, barely heated, uncooled, poorly lit, unused warehouse in Medina cheap. Yes there is nearly unlimited 480V 3 Phase , yes, there is water, its a dungeon. Nearest
~
civilization/hotel/food/Harbor Freight / Home Depot / and Walmart is 20- 25 minutes away...
~
Not exactly a great place, but you could have the greatest indoor beam shows ever at a LEM... Any aircon comes from opening the bay doors.. Probably get it for 300-350$ a day... But I'd look for a better venue first. Owner
`
would not allow much in the way of drinking anything but water/soda, however, might get away with a few beers at lunch picnic. Building Owner is a strict Christian... We'd have to haul everything in, screen, scaffolds,
~
theatrical lighting, lift cart if needed, seating, tables, power cords, fog/haze. ... There
~
is a forklift, and a bike/hike trail nearby. Not much to do for any ladies who come along, unless they head North to Cleveland's museums.
~
... I've seen 24 foot box trucks turn around inside it, its big.... Did I mention the space is very large with tall ceilings? Its commercially un-rentable due to a remote location and lack of amenities, so always open.
~
I do have my milling machine there... Its small town Ohio, so what happens in the building stays in the building, but smoking stuff outside or pyro, or excessive drone racing in the huge front yard might get noticed very quickly by the industrial and corporate neighbors. The adjoining space is used for a huge machine shop, they will would tolerate the fog/haze , but not any funny smells. Medina County / City of Medina is not known for its friendly Sheriff's department... In other words, it would be "Behave-Lem", More or Less a Conference, not a party! Although unlimited loudness would be possible in the afternoon and evening. The owner's minion would probably stay all day and "keep an eye on us" , but we could easily get away with KTP/CVL inside...

It should be a contest at CleveLEM -- who can make the best show to that Huey Lewis song.

2200.00/day on my end. no power. no food....yea next place....

Take your time finding a place. Gives me more time to properly save up. I know it might be a long shot but what about a restaurant? Certain ones usually have a room you can rent commonly used for parties, birthdays, special occasions etc. There's a bar near me that has the entire upstairs reserved for such a thing. We had a band plugged into the power along with my bro in laws video equipment. He had a crappy laser projector though. Thing was one of those christmas lights you see in commercials.

Maybe work out a deal to use their power and we would be close to food. It's a bit unconventional but why not. How many do you expect to be there?

We need a big space. I'll see John, the owner, this weekend and ask about two days rental. A lot of buildings in NE Ohio have low ceilings, because it gets cold here. The warehouse is perfect in that respect. At SELEM we were always constrained by the Auditorium seats and stage, so this can be more of a "Theatre in the Round" venue, and with the lift, we can hang bounces, install mirror balls, have huge Lumia screens, whatever...
~
Which would you rather do?:
Install on Friday evening, Lase all day Saturday, Go Home on Sunday, or Install on Friday, Lase Saturday and Sunday go home on Monday? Please tell me what you prefer! I want to keep fees matching costs, this is not a for profit venture.
~
If I do this, and enough attend, we will have a "Lase-Off", where everybody gets the same one and a half minute snippet of song, and a real time beam console they have never used before. Then we all vote for the best and second best...
