FLEM Friday, May 25th and Saturday, May 26th (2018)

OK, I decided to book the meeting room as the dates were filling up fast and I didn't want to miss out.

So the next FLEM will be on Friday, May 25th and Saturday, May 26th, at the Triangle Boat Club Meeting Hall in Tavares, Florida.

The boat club meeting hall is off of highway 441 in Tavares, just before you cross over the Dead River bridge between Tavares and Leesburg. (It's on the right if you're headed west on 441.) The address is 12001 W Burleigh Blvd (W Burleigh Blvd is Hwy 441), but it isn't marked. If you've never been there, be sure to check out the location on Google maps before you go, as it is very easy to drive right past the entrance road to the boat club if you don't know where to look.

I will be at the hall Friday morning to start setting things up. Plan is to work/play until around 6 or 7 PM before taking a break for dinner. There's a great Italian restaurant (Angelo's) just down the street that we traditionally go to for dinner on Friday night. After that, it's back to the hall for more fun...

Saturday I'll be back at the hall by 9 AM or so, and we can stay as late as we want. Typically we start winding down around midnight, but we will need to clean up, sweep up, and take out all the trash before we leave. Usually we're still standing around out front at 2 or 3 in the morning, still talking! :)

Who else is coming? *retardo

Adam

See you all there!

I'll be there too. Possibly fly the Cessna. Definitely bringing some quads.

I spoke with Bill Benner over the weekend and invited the Pangolin crew to FLEM. Unsure yet if they will be available though, as they have lots going on in May, including possibly moving into their new location. Although Bill did mention that if they were available and the new building was ready, we could all take a road-trip to Orlando to check out the place. :)

EDIT: I also got a message from Fred (Astroguy) - he said he and Dee are going to try to make the trip, schedule permitting. Also, Fred is looking to sell his projector (based on an old Eclipse Technologies enclosure) and his QM-2000 if anyone is interested.

Adam

So we're about 2 weeks away now. Anyone else planning to come to FLEM? Frank? Aaron? Jason? Bueller? Bueller? :D

Adam

I'd love to come down, but can't make it this time.

I will be leaving for France that weekend.

Too bad guys! You will be missed. (Jason, in particular I had hoped to sit down with you, DZ, and CountFunkula to discuss ion lasers at SELEM... Guess that will have to be a Skype call when you get back.)

Anyone else planning to make the trip to Tavares this month?

Adam

You and I have talked already and I'm still on the fence. I've almost clicked buy on the plane ticket a couple of times but it would still be Friday morning to Saturday morning. Tix came down $30 in price yesterday and regardless of the fact that it's a whirlwind, I need a break.

Don't buy anything just yet Brad...

After checking around with folks, it seems that this is a particularly bad weekend to host a FLEM. I suppose I should have been able to foresee that, given that it's Memorial Day weekend and all! Anyway, right now it looks like we'll only have 3 or 4 people who can make it. So I'm starting to think that maybe we should re-schedule this for some time in June instead?

Open to comments and suggestions...

Adam

OK, so I just checked with the boat club, and they said they will allow us to re-schedule the event for free.

Unfortunately, the only dates open in June are the 22nd and 23rd. (Same Friday-Saturday schedule, just moved ahead 4 weeks...)

So what do you guys think? Will Friday, June 22nd and Saturday, June 23rd work out better for people?

Adam

Hi guys,

Adam you can put me on the list as well.
Don't matter the dates up to July 4 I am flexible special during the weekends.

Albert

I am good for June 22 and 23 if everyone else is.

Looks like I will be able to do it then.

Damn I was going to drop in on you. I'm down there all next week.

Hi everyone, FLEM next weekend is still a go, it was decided to carry on with the FLEM scheduled for next weekend and have a 2nd one in June!

So kecked, if you’re still around it would be great to meet you! Unfortunately, due to work commitments I’m not sure that I can make it Friday but it’s looking good for me to be there on Saturday.

It’s shaping up to be a small event but there will be plenty of lasers and shop talk! Hope to see y’all there!

Ok I'll be coming from Bonita Springs. How long should I give for the trip via car? It has to be friday as I fly out sat so sorry. I'm really trying to do selem this year so maybe there.

That’s about a 3.5 hour drive if you go the speed limit the entire way *retardo

There is no "try" in SELEM. You wanna.

Sorry I wasn't able to post sooner guys.

DZ is spot-on. We're going to do BOTH DATES! So the next FLEM will be on May 25th-26th, and then we'll have another FLEM on June 22nd-23rd. Same basic schedule for both events: I'll probably show up at the venue around noon on Friday to start moving tables and getting things set up, but we'll have the room all night Friday and all day and night Saturday. Figure on doing dinner Friday sometime between 7 and 8 PM or so. And I'll be back at the venue around 9 AM on Saturday to get things cranked up.

Damn, we must be crazy! See you all soon...

Adam

MAN I need to check here more often Just found out about this :(.

Yeah, I'm sorry I can't make this one. FLEM is a great place to connect with a smaller group of laserists without all of the (fun) distractions of a larger event.

-David

If anyone is super-bummed that they can't attend this event, don't forget that there will be another one just 4 weeks later!

Same location, same basic schedule too. Details here.

Adam

Whelp almost Made it. I found a cheap flight on 2 airlines using Kayak booked the flight there on United but when I went to book the return flight on American it was full. fortunately I was able to cancel with no penalties. Oh well see y'all in June.

Threatening to come with a 30 watt *nyancat

I've gotten clearance to bring anything in this hallway... just have to be careful as I'll be hauling with an old Ranger with a tailgate that likes to fall down at the worst possible time...

Are there any sets of Saturns in those boxes??? ;)

Only one, its a 30 watt with Saturn 5s which I'll bring.... $40K projector in a $400 truck *DZ Hope it dont rain!

Will be great to see you again, Ryan!

Any chance of you joining us on Friday? I'll be there starting at Noon on Friday, and we normally don't shut down until well after midnight... We do plan to hit Angelo's (great little Italian place less than 1/2 mile away) for dinner on Friday evening around 7-ish, but otherwise we'll be at the venue for the duration.

Sometime on Saturday (probably early afternoon) a few of us want to head out to a park for a little while to fly our quad copters. But even so, the venue will be open on Saturday from 10 AM until we're done for the night. (Probably 2 AM, if past history is any guide!)

We will need to be careful with that 30 watt, but I'm sure we can figure something out! :)

Anyone else from the office thinking about stopping in? And you know we're doing another one in 4 weeks, right? *retardo

Adam

Adam,
The weather is not looking very good for outdoor quad flying.

Damn - you're right.

Hmmm... If I don't pack the Vortex, I can stuff more laser gear into the Jeep... We'll see I guess. For sure I'll bring the Inductrix though.

Adam

No bring it anyway. It don't take up that much space when folded. I'm going to bring the new brushless inductrix I built too.

It pains me to see these.... but, thanks anyway! :) Grr... should've gone ahead and flown down for Friday, just so I could say I was there.

I’ll be at FLEM 2. How about coming then, brad?

We'll see. It may be another situation where Friday may be possible but, I don't know about Saturday. I'm supposed to be doing lasers with the Pink Floyd tribute band I work with at a theater up in the Poconos on Saturday night. There's been some issues within the band recently so, relationships are a bit strained and, they need to find a drummer and bassist quickly to fulfill the gig obligations.
.
I also don't know if the sweet 16 on Friday night is going to want any lasers/lighting, yet.

Brad,
Clearly you just need to clone yourself once or twice.

I would like to thank everyone Adam, David 1, David 2,Aaron,Chris and evil genius for an enjoyable and enlighten weekend .Hope everyone made it home safe and sound. Thanks Starr

Was great to meet you, Star! Glad to hear you had a good time.

FLEM went really well, especially when you consider that just a week before it was due to start we were looking at only 3 or 4 people being able to attend. Thanks to everyone for making the trip. And don't forget that we've got another one coming up on June 22-23!

Adam
