what if we turn the second "E" around to look like a three, or even using a "3" and then using the straight part of the "L"
Both of those in a different color would give you a 13
As long as long part of "L" and backwards "E" are same color it should stand out as a "13"
Just an idea or starting point maybe :)

You beat me to the punch.
How about these. It's the best I can do with Windows Paint.

Like this?
How about TriskaidekaLEM?
Great ideas so far folks! Keep them coming.
Luz, I have to say that I really like your idea of incorporating "13" into the word SELEM. If that ends up as an element in the final design, even if it ends up being someone else's drawing, you still get co-credit!

I was messing around with an animation program on my note 4 and thought up of a kind of mascot for this years SELEM. It's probably too childish and silly but I'll post it anyway. Click to play.

Definitely entertaining.
Yup. The first one was in 2007. Still the same venue today. Although we have expanded a bit over the years.
The first one only had 23 people in attendance, and we had just 5 hours to setup on Friday, then 14 hours of SELEM fun on Saturday, with just 10 hours on Sunday for a bit more fun plus the load-out. Total cost that first year was only $500 for the venue.
Now we're running from Tuesday through Sunday, with 11 hours for setup Tuesday and 9 hours for load-out on Sunday, and 14 to 16 hours of SELEM fun each day from Wednesday through Saturday. Oh yeah, and upwards of 80 people in total when you count both the registered laserists and all the guests.
We've also rented out two extra buildings to have more space. And we usually do an outdoor laser show for the town after SELEM ends. But the cost has also gone up. (Venue costs alone have ballooned to $4600, and then there's shirts, food, door prizes, etc on top of that.)

How about this one?

Getting there! I like the incorporation of the NC state outline. Now we need some lasers...

Any ideas what to add?
Maybe along these lines?

Or

Maybe set the beam origin to where Newton is on the map, and then fan out from there? Dunno... But it's definitely looking better.
Anyone else have any ideas?

Shows location. I'm sorry I can't give exactly what you are looking for. I'm not a professional and I'm using an outdated 2004 flash program haha
That looks pretty good to me!

PS: Has anyone else noticed trouble viewing the images that Shadow has attached to his posts? I always have to right-click one to open it in a new tab, at which point I have to re-enter my PL login info before I can view the picture. But once I've done that, if I go back to the main tab and refresh it I can then view all the other images normally. Just asking because this was a bug from long ago that Spec worked hard to kill, and now it's back (at least for me). Wondering if it's just my profile or if it's a global problem...
That's odd that it's come back if he fixed it. I uploaded the images directly from my computer rather than a weblink. Maybe that's the problem
Refined the lasers

Probably my last attempt with this one

I'm starting to wonder if it might just be a problem with my user profile. It seems no one else is having the problem that I am.
I don't think so. It's still happening (at least for me), even on your latest post. But as before, re-entering my log-in info fixes the problem. Really strange. Will wait to see what Spec has to say though...Quote:

That being said, I like this latest version:

Gotta figure out how to do the state outline in embroidery though. Might need to do the lettering and the outline in the same color and not have any "fill" for the state outline to make it work.

Made another concept

These are going on shirts right? I didn't take that into consideration before.
I can’t see the pictures either
This is a bug.
Right click on the image link and say open in a new tab. Login then you will be able to see the images.
Yes, specifically the logo will be EMBROIDERED on a knit polo shirt. Here's an example from the very first SELEM:

So, yeah, be mindful of the fact that it has to be embroidered. Solid, filled blocks of color are difficult, if not impossible, to do.
Adam
How does this look?
Attachment 55576
I like that one! And it's something that will work with the embroidery too.

Glad we could work together to come up with a logo for this years SELEM. One of these years I need to attend. Here's the larger version of the logo.

Are we doing white shirts this year?
Or are you going to have the logo b/w inverted somehow?
;)
I'd leave the Newton NC off the logo. Logos should be simple. Plus text is a point killer when digitizing.
If Buffo says so then it goes. I'll make any adjustments he asks for. Least I can do
I agree with mike
I think we have a winner! :) I'll be ordering an extra shirt for Shadow and for Chexmex, since the final design is a hybrid of their two ideas.
I do have some final tweaks I'd like to make, but this is the design (below) I'd like to go with.
Shadow, would you mind making one last version?
First, can you move the origin of the beams a bit further south in the state? (Newton is located roughly 1/3 the distance from south to north on the state boarder.)
Second, please make the beams ~ 3 times thicker. (For comparison, in the version above this one that was labeled 9 6 2, those could still be ~ 1.5 times thicker.) If they are just a bit smaller than the width of the state boarder, that should be perfect.
Third, please make the letters match the color beams that hit them, and for the "13" in the middle please outline those two characters in white.
Fourth, please change the Newton, NC text to a solid font (not an outline font) with no serifs (they won't embroider well) and make the letters medium gray.
And finally, I'd like the state outline to be a medium gray. (It will be embroidered on a black shirt, so the "background" color will be black already.) Also, please remove the coastline details on the right side of the state outline, as I believe that will also be too intricate for the embroidery. Just the outline of the far outside line is perfect.
And thanks a *bunch* for all your work on this! You've submitted more revisions on this year's logo than anyone else has in previous years. :)
Adam
Awesome logo! Shadow would you mind sharing the file (SVG would be great) with me once the final design is done. I will throw it up on the online schedule.... AAAAND make a laser frame with it. Before you say "it won't scan", I urge you to wait and see >:)

I'll work on it right away! Thank you so much for the free T-Shirt too!

Here's the link to the swf file. Everything is in vector so should be helpful when converting. https://www.dropbox.com/s/13ov6ap20b...2%202.swf?dl=0
Good luck and much appreciated. I'm already thinking of next years lol if it's needed. The fact that everyone is going to be wearing a shirt with this design on it is quite something and I'm honored.
Thank you for uploading the final version. I need it for the name tags too.
Chris
Awesome logo!
.....
Great work Shadow! Thanks again!
