So, does anyone have any cool ideas for the SELEM 2026 logo? This will be the 19th SELEM, btw.

I put my thinking cap on.
We've only got a couple weeks until I have to finalize the shirt order, and I haven't seen a single logo submission yet.
Doesn't anyone have any ideas? (You guys really don't want to leave this to me - I have zero artistic ability!)
Adam
I also have no artistic capabilities. So I did what any nerd would do.
I asked ChatGPT. ;)
Is it "Enthusiasts" or "Enthusiast" ??

I also asked Gemini, but the results were not as good.
But I do like the "Mission Patch" idea that both came up with independently.

It's always been enthusiast's, which is the singular possessive form, although you could make the case that the plural-possessive form (enthusiasts') is more grammatically correct.
I do like the "mission patch" logo style you've come up with though! We've never done that before...
Adam
I'd love to take credit for that, but that was all AI (both of them) Here as my original prompt:
"make a logo good for embroidery for a conference of laser show and projector enthusiasts. the year is 2026 and it's the 19th con. make sure to add some elements of an rgb laser"
each LLM took about 4 iterations to get to the ones I posted. I can make any changes if you want, or people can just riff on those ideas.
Was thinking about domes… :-)

Congratulations to Hank for this year's winning SELEM logo design!

This is the first year we've had a "Mission Patch" style logo, and I have to say that I'm surprised we didn't try something like this sooner. The fact that the circular outline looks a lot like the inflatable planetarium dome is an added bonus!
Shirt order will be finalized tomorrow. (Just waiting for them to approve the artwork.)
Adam
Congratulations Hank!!
Well deserved.
Now I have to convert it to vector format for the desk lamps for this year.
Thanks, Chris! I like it a lot too. ;)
I asked GPT to convert to an SVG file and this was the result. Hopefully you can do better! LOL
Guaranteed :cool::cool::cool::cool:
I won't even post the results of my request to turn it into an .ILD file.
That is one beautiful logo! I'm crying that I can't be there...I May have a t-shirt custom made Just cause it is So awesome (if that's ok with Hank?). I can wear in future years...or just around my beaming shed!
Let me ask ChatGPT about its IP rights.
.... thinking....
It says "sure, no problem at all!"
Lol - asking ChatGPT about IP rights... Now *THAT* is ironic!
Here's a link to a cool presentation from last year's DEFCON conference talking about how easy it is to extract private data from LLMs (even when they're not supposed to leak such information).

While the entire presentation is really good, the first few minutes in particular offer 3 clear examples of ChatGPT producing output that clearly infringes on copywrite. (The NY Times example is especially egregious.)
