Anyone interesting test the blue laser till to die?

Hi, guys
This is Bridge,:) , our company is Beijing Laserwave Optoelectronics Tech.CO.,LTD.(www.laser-wave.com)
Ok, Just as the title write , who will interesting?
yes, I must tell all of you more, yes, from 28/11 to now, we test one of our blue laser burning in ability, after 21 days, 21*24=504 hours gone, it still work well, I am worry I hadn't the patience waiting it to die, so anyone interesting to do this work, all 24 hours burning till it to die. ok, the test is free, you only need is pay the shippment. who like to do this destory experiment, yes, if you need lasers to test other things, that will be better, of course you can use this laser to do anything. we are only inteeresting the result. yes, test result.if you 'd like compare with other company's lasers, that would be better. :).
if you are interesting, please tell me as soon as possible.

I am pretty sure you will get many offers for this , in particular i know ANDY_CON has been keen on experimenting with a blue for some time , hes always very good at assessing and writing up reviews ,i am sure he will be along soon but i think you should seriously consider Andy as he will do you a comprehensive review on his website at www.laser-man.co.uk

Have you been running a simple, full-power, always on test, or have you been varying the power some?

I think that a 100 hour full-power (continuous on) test is sufficient to tell whether or not the laser is stable enough. After that, I think a better "test to failure" would include a more real-world usage pattern.

Something like a varying blanking signal, say from 1Khz to 10Khz or so, with a varying duty cycle too. (Say, from a high of 90% on and 10% off, down to around 50-50 or so.) You could ramp the blanking speed up and down every 15-20 seconds or so, while changing the duty cycle over a period of a minute or two.

A test like that would simulate actual laser show use, which would be a lot more helpful. However, even so, you're looking at a 6-8 month test duration here. (And that's assuming just 5,000 hours MTBF; it could be a lot longer than that - potentially a year or more if you get up around the 10,000 hour MTBF mark!)

Then too, you'd probably want to set everything up on a UPS, so that minor power outages won't interrupt the test. (During a 6 month long test, a lot could happen!)

It's an interesting project, but I don't have the time to properly set up the test conditions right now. (At a minimum, I'd want to build a custom circuit to regulate the blanking as described above, then mount everything on an optical plate and secure it someplace where it won't be in the way for the next 6 months to a year...) Maybe after the first of the new year, but not now.

Still, I'm sure you'll get plenty of people that are willing to take you up on the challenge. Good luck!

PS: Gary - I hear you. It's not really a "fun" project once you think about it... I'm sure it will be fun for the first couple months, but after that it will be just tedious. The test could potentially drag on for a year or more, and you can't use the laser for anything else. Still, I'm sure someone will take up the torch.

well viewpoint, we test it 21 days and nights, 504 hours continue ,full power burning, yes, Mr.coffee gone to our company this month and buy a blue laser, maybe he 'd like prove it.just as you said a more simulate usage test will be needed.

I dont trust anything before I se it myself..
But hey if you want to ship out a blue laser to test ..

I put the laser into my mamba+DAC and ceep it running 24ours with a LIVE webCam :)
And we can have a $$ on witch day we think it will crack :) lol

You can count me also in, but I think it´s more interesting that other guys let it run up to the death of the blue :D

I have one 300mW Laser-wave Module here, It puts out 412mW @5V, and I will make compare run with CNIs 400mW.
Who will die faster??
At 26.12 I will begin with test :-)

Yes,Marconi had many nice equipment , he will did all-sided test.they also did red, so they know how to do, what to do.they also will did long life time test as all of us expected.

It will be my pleasure to put this unit through my torture tests.

I plan on cycling the power on and off many times and test the modulation for recovery. Alternate between Full CW one day and sweep the analog/TTL input the next. It should be fun but not too boring of a test.
I promise it will be a fair test, no biased opinions if I can help it. But honest.

I will post the results of course as time progresses.

I 'd like our laser can bear, suffer, tolerance all marconi 's torture test, wish it will strong survive, till now, it worked well, 26*24=624 hours had gone, yes, be honest, I must agree, we only power it on and left it full CW working all days and night, no blanking, no torture like marconi will do, so I also expect the result as all of you.
yes, I love laser, all of my effort is want to do better and better lasers, we just on the way, will worker more harder. in veryone LW's heart, nothing is impossible.

Outstanding choice! I'm sure Marconi will put that laser through a rigorous test. And I'm pleased that he plans to test both the continuous power performance and the rapid blanking performance that is more common to light show use.

Well done.

Now, Anyone want to take a guess as to how many months it will take for this laser to die? (remember, even if the laser is only rated for 5000 hours mttf, that's still 7 months from now...) I'm predicting that it will last into 2009...

Whoever guesses a date closest to the actual failure date wins... what, the dead laser. ;) We can set up a fan group for it, personalized videos, take pictures of it projecting frame scan requests (we can have it burn it's serial # onto a photograph with a focusing lens to "sign" them). >:) I have an old laptop and can drag up an old webcam; let's give it a webpage. :D And we all have to make a pilgramage to Chuck's house before it dies. :eek:

Sorry I hadnt posted recently guys...
Ive been very busy at the day job and putting up with some back problems too!!
Anyhow, Yes, the laser is doing fine ..the output is a steady 95mW +/- a few depending on the time of day..My A/C temp increases to 78f during work hours from 73f while I am at home, so I see some change there, but thats it.
The laser has been running continous since 1pm EST on 1/23/08.
I have it hidden away in a closet with a PC, power meter. and a timed TTL/analog driver, at nite I now fall asleep while watching the light leak from under the door waiting for changes in the pattern.
I think I'll direct the unused reflecting light to a grating or lumia wheel and shine it on my ceiling... :)

I will post more info, divergence , spot size and stability after my camera returns

.... but so far I really like this unit.

I have a feeling marconi might be MIA. I have not gotten a reply about my dead maxyz in over two weeks. I am worried his back may be causing him problems again. His profile says his last activity was on 02/02/2008. :confused: May have to take a drive to the Tampa area to see if he is OK. Guess that would be a good excuse to visit One Stop also. :D

I had similar thoughts. I almost wanted to bid ont he 405 that went for less than $500. The one for just one is calling to me also... :o

May have to jump on the bike Wednesday and hunt him down. He has a meet to attend on Saturday... :rolleyes:

As for the E-bay auctions, I think they're running on auto pilot. Maxine is probably shipping the diodes. (She's been doing that for a while now.)

Sure hope he's OK... No reply to my last phone message asking if he's still coming to FLEM Mark II or not. :(

The word on the street is that he is now homeless due to his house burning down. Apparerently, he had left some laser on in his closet and it eventually burnt a hole in the wall and started a fire.
