______

Ordered two! (I'm building one up for seanharrison)

Thank you!

Barry

Schweeet:D Andrew i Pm'd you about adding it to my other order, want to combine them for express delivery, so put me down for 1 please!

i just order one. But I'm having problem to buy the USB-soundcard.
Could anybody help?
(My e-bay account needs to be reactivated, but the phoneactivation service is not working)

Go ahead and get the LaserBoy Correction Amp kit. You can use any 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound card, USB or PCI. You need to build this kit and test it first before you can hook up a sound card. There is very little to do to the sound card; just tack on some wires.

James. :)

Nice design! :) how about shipping to UK? i can see the 3 bucks fee to US only... anyway can i see the other side of the board or drawing? if its not confidencial of course :D

Placed my order for one complete kit. (Cool!)

For those of you looking for a sound card... Have a look on E-bay. Specifically, look at this auction. If that one is gone, or if the auction is closed, then look at the sellers other auctions and you'll find more sound cards listed. They're all the same, and you can get them for 10 UK Pounds (about $20 US) Buy-it-Now with free shipping. They come from China and take about 10 days to arrive.

This is the same type of sound card that James used.

This is pretty close to the real pc board.

Plus you can open it in LaserBoy!

JUST UPDATED!!! on 08-04-2008.

Now it really does match the pc board schemo!

BTW if you can't find the MicroPower Direct D106E, this is the same thing only a bit more expensive.

XP POWER part # IA0509S

James. :)

for those of you in the US who are looking to get the usb sound card, I have bought from this guy twice:

LINK

I ordered it on Saturday and it came today! (Monday)

$25 w/ free shipping

There have been 8 claimed so far!

About that USB sound card; am I wrong or are the output decoupling caps in backwards?

What actually happens if you charge a polarized cap the wrong way?

James. :)

Yep, see my post here:
http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...3&postcount=19

they would leak more current and degrade faster.

Brand new kits should be in the mail soon for anyone who ordered! :D

Just got mine! Building it up right now!

My friend Dean (the guy who designed this thing in the first place) was just here the other day and we were messing with a built kit. Somehow the connector from the USB sound card got put onto the pins one pin over to the left. This put the +5VDC on the ground pin.

STINKY SMOKE!

The 10uF tantalum cap that sits at the left end of the DC/DC converter, accross it's +5VDC and ground inputs, got toasted!

So I swapped it out for another one and all is fine! :D

I'd have to say that I am very impressed with that DC/DC converter. It is not as sensitive to damage as I thought it might be. I'm also pretty impressed with the USB power spec and the way it can turn off and protect itself from total annihilation.

James. :)

I'm still waiting for my kit.
I got me a USB soundcard as well. And some dichros and mounts.
But i hate to wait for shipment.

When you build these kits, first connect everything and power it up. If you are using the USB 6 channel dac, make sure the drivers are set as shown:
http://hacylon.case.edu/laser/LaserB...g_settings.jpg

While nothing is playing, measure the voltage on each channel with a voltmeter and adjust the offset pots for each channel to 0V

Then, play this wav from windows media player with 'loop' on and adjust the gain pots on each channel till the voltmeter reads 5V. When you are finished, if you are using the EzAudDac driver, set the individual channel gains back to 0.

Am I nuts or is there nothing in this wave?

James. :)

That's right, it's dead silence, full 5V deflection.

OK. I guess that makes sense. When I open it to look at the wave, it looks like Audacity normalizes it to digital zero.

James. :)

I built up the kit and put it in a snazzy little box with a DB25 ILDA connection. Very happy with the kit. Thanks to EVERYONE INVOLVED!

Nice job. But what about me and Dean? What are we, chopped liver?

Geeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzz! Someboy's not paying attention. :(

That's exactly what I was afraid of.

James.

Heh I knew that was coming. Thank you James! :D you're the king of LaserBoy!

Yes. And I'm paying attention too! :D

And I have big plans for the future.

LaserBoy II hardware & software is in the works.

James.

sorry I think that's the second time I have done that.

Thank you James! Thank you Dean! Oooo laserboyII?! I like the sound of that :)

drlava, do you sell the USb sound cards aswell? I dont really like using eBay, and it would be easier if they were in the same shipment. ?

Can this unit be triggered via an external Audio source ?

I got my kit this morning, now i know what to do this weekend.:D

It is a sound card. Nothing else. You have to play wave through it. You can either precaculate the wave like I do in LaserBoy or send a stream of data to it that essentially is wave generated on-the-fly, like drlava's driver does.

James. :)

LaserBoy generates a wave that you can play back later, and spaghetti generates the signals there and then. Its just a standard sound card, you can play music through it if you want!

that's right. While the sound card probably has a roll-off down at 30Hz, this mod gives you a sound card with a bandwidth of DC-24kHz! :) (48000 pps)

Got mine in the mail friday and built i today! Thank you all that were involved! :)

Wow... check out the direction those OP-AMPS were put in. I am terribly embarrassed :o. I was going "Why is the DC/DC converter getting to friggin hot and not putting out the correct voltages?!" Then saw that, and held my palm to my face for a while.

Anyways, like James was saying, that little DC/DC converter is a beast. Still works!
