LD2000 Showtime Query

I have a show that is approx. 4 seconds off between the audio and the visuals.
In Showtime, is there a way to grab everything (frames & effects) and move them "to the right" by 4 seconds?
Alternatively I'd like to add a blank frame at the beginning of the show but I can't see how I could do this as the show starts immediately with no "gap" to add anything.
I could just move the first frameset to the right but that shortens it.

I'm sure this is a simple task that experienced hands will laugh at but we all have to start somewhere. ;)

Hi Richard

You can select everything on the timeline and just drag it to the right. I don't have access to Showtime at work so I can't remember off the top of my head how to do it, but I know it can be done.

Try using 'ctrl a' to select all, otherwise i'll have a look tonight.

No access to Showtime for me at work either (Damn! I need that QM2000 Net box!) so I'll gi' it go later.

hmmmm.... I wonder if I could install the LD Intro package on my works PC and work on shows in preview mode only or would it need to detect a QM card to even fire up .....

You'll need QM-card for the software to work, it uses the processor/memory/etc. that's on the QM.

O.K., so open Showtime and load your show. You will see on the left of the screen next to the timeline there are three option buttons, show, module and err, something else. Check the top one first (damn i've forgotten which it is now), if that's too coarse adjustment try one of the others. Then click on the timeline and it should turn blue. You can now slide the whole show to the right by a few seconds to match your music, just click hold and slide with your mouse.

I tried it an hour or so ago and it appeared to work for me ;)

I tried it and it does indeed work (although CTRL-A doesn't grab all, you need to use EDIT> Select ALL)

That's just it me ole mucka, there is no silence so somehow the audio I managed to get is slightly different to that which was used when the show was created.
I can edit audio just fine but the LD2000 is a different kettle of photons.

Besides, it's fun learning about the features of the LD system
Have you seen how much gear you get to play with !! :eek:

Isn't that the truth!

I still have "whoa !" moments just about everytime I fire my system up!
Of course, I'm spending more time now with the online help files, which does actually seem to be making a difference :p

I claim no level of expertise at this point - MAYBE after releasing a couple of shows (or 3 or 4 ...) :o

BTW -

What software are you guys using to edit the audio you're using with Showtime?
(trying to keep the thread somewhat on track!!)

Not that i've done that much audio editing, but I tend to use Audacity.

Steinberg Cubase 4 for making compositions/adding effects/samples/EQ'ing, and Steinberg Wavelab for editing wave-files, mastering, normalizing,etc.

We started off chatting about LD2000 and we still are.
I didn't notice Tinkerbell whining about Ye olde worlde formate in this thread. :p

I tend to be a bit of a tart and just pick up the odd bit of audio software as I need it.
Presently installed is Sound Editor Deluxe but I have no favourites as I only need to muck about with audio occasionally (unlike "MC Mix Master Jemski").

Yeah, that's a serious audio editing setup he's got!

I actually have Cakewalk Sonar 7 - just haven't got around to installing and using it yet! :o Currently using Adobe Soundbooth, which seems to be OK for basic mixing (but really haven't used it that much yet, either...)

Concerning Showtime audio, has anyone noticed any pros / cons / issues with using one particular audio file format over the other?

I'm always using WAV-format, that will show up as wave-format above your tracks (so you can see the beats, breaks/etc.).

I did read that WAV's are a bit more stable timewise whereas MP3's could have a tendency to "drift".
But that was a while ago when LD2000 was but a twinkle in my eye. :)

As JeroenVDV pointed out, I prefer to use .wav format files so I can see the waveform in the Showtime timeline editor. It makes it easier to get the timing down.

Once the show is complete, you can always substitute the MP3 file for the .wav file if you want to save disk space.

I made the mistake of not reading the help files when I first got my LD-2000. (I know, I know... Don't be a dumbass: Read the friggin' instructions first! What can I say? It's a guy thing...) Anyway, I slogged through showtime for about a week before I broke down and watched the tutorial DVD. That helped a lot. Then I started looking into the help file, and found *tons* of stuff I had missed.

When I got LivePro, the *first* thing I did was to read each and every page of the help file. Tedious, yeah, but I learned more doing that that I have from watching 3 separate demos of how LivePro works. (One of which was done by Bill Benner himself!)

So trust me on this: Read the help file first. It makes the learning curve a lot flatter.

Was that specifically for the LD-2000, or just in general? I haven't noticed any problems using mp3 files for the audio on my shows so far... (Though Fred and I both had this problem back when we were each using an older version of Mamba Black...)

where those demo's on video? or live?

They were all live, but there might be clips of them floating around. Aaron (allthatwhichis) shot a lot of video at the first few FLEM's we had... He may have captured one of Bill's presentations on LivePro.

For that matter, I might still have some footage. I need to dig... (Gonna have to wait until after FLEM though!)

Use Pangolin Auto200 Player instead of ShowTime for playback. It allows to define an audio offset.
