LaserWorld PL-4000RGB

Took a chance on this after reading some of the stories on here.
Here is what I have.

Laser is specified at 4 Watt but Guarantee is 3.5W

I have the following modules
Red 642 Guar=1.2W , Typ 1.5W (Laserworld)
Green 532 Guar=1.3W , Typ 1.5W (CNI)
Blue 445 Guar=1.0W , Typ 1.2W (Laserworld)

I got the unit in a fired it up, First thing I noticed was it was a bit noisy (Lots of Fans) but not Horrible. Also I noticed the white was very nice almost a little blue heavy.

After a bit of comparison I just did not feel it was quite as bright as it should be.
I had ordered a brand new Meter from CT (Thanks Marc he is awesome) and got it in a started to check.

Decided to get measurement before the dichros and after.

I Measured the Green at 1.32W , Blue and 1.10 and Red was only .71W (I thought it seemed a little lack) After the Dichros I am seeing about a 4-5% drop
Anyway as you see the blue and green are within the Guarantee but not the Red. I also notice the blue and Red do not seem to fully blank (A small amount of leakage).
I am currently working with them to fix the problem (So far they have been very good about communication)

I will update and send pictures soon and let you know how the red get resolved but so far that is what I have.

Have you allowed for beam width on the red?

Its possible the red could be putting out its stated power but the the beam is too wide for the meter's sensor.

Of course that doesn't make it any better because if too big for the sensor then its probably too big for the mirrors so you lose some of it inside the projector but at least you know its meeting specs on output from the head.

Actually the red beam quality is pretty good on this, fits on scanner no problem. The Meter I got from CT is a thermopile with a fairly large sensor area so I do not think that would be an issue. Hopefully will get a response on Monday.

The Blue and the red ones are from swisslas.ch...
They have only a 1W 640/660nm, a 2W 640/660nm and a 5W 640/660nm module, typically how laserworld works they say the 1W module has 1.2-1.5W.
Have you messured the beam after the scanner mirror? Don´t forget, that normally the scannermirrors (special the from the really cheap laserworld "50"kpps scanners) loss much more than 15%
If you say you loss complete 20% , 3% on Dichro and 17% on scannermirrors, the red has only ~800mW.
But I think you messured befor the scanner mirrors...
It can be, that there was a Produktion failure or something on the side of adjusting the red laser, so it shouldn´t be a big problem...

the leakage from the red and the blue is because they are raw diode based laser modules. The lasers basically sit just at or below the lasing threshold when they are blanked...

if that green is barely making 1.3 W now, it probably won't be in 6 months.. its also not normal for a CNI laser to come new from factory barely making minimum power... i'd expect that cni is more like a 1watt...

Yes, I measured it straight out of the laser. I have not measured after the scan head yet, Will do that as I could change the scan mirrors to some higher quality I have here if needed.

Previous owners of their lacklustre shite have been fobbed off with the "excuse" that they haven't bought "pro" gear so what do they expect.
As you have probably paid a decent penny for your gear you should expect it to measure up to the minimum quoted specs.

It's time that Trading Standards (or the German equivalent) made these cowboys live up to their advertising bullshit.

Why do peeps still buy their gear after reading the bad experiences that some users have had? :confused:

Were the lasers modulated or CW when you measured them? If they were modulated the readings would be lower than expected.

I tried to locate definition for "spam" which would classify my previous short "quiet recommendation" (that's how I call it) as a form of spam , but I haven't found one :(.

However, I LOUDLY apologize :o to everyone who was affected with my spamming (although only one person mentioned it so far) and I promise that I will not continue with my heavy spamming in the future (because it is hopeless anyway - explained below).

I use this forum not very often but even so I realise that probably once a month there is a person here moaning about LaserWorld company's products so I wonder whether that is some kind of negative spamming :D or simple human naivety :mad:.

If a person posts a product review of a product in the PRODUCT REVIEW section, it's not spam...

Laser were measured with Steady 5V applied to inputs no Modulaton.

Actually overall I am happy with the purchase, and they have been very good about communication to resolve the Red problem so far.

The case, PS, scanners and the lasers all seem to be good quality for the price. As long as you do not expect a diamond for the price of a Pearl.

I have two RGB Systems Lasers (one RGB and One 5W Green) and there are things that are better and things that are not as nice.

Will get out some pictures and more info as it comes.

how about poppin in your higher quality dichros. i think you will notice a big difference with that. also, how are the mounts for the dichros? is the alignment locked down well on this?? i have heard nightmares about the alignment on the pre-fab units after shipment.

i dont like the spec on the red. .71W is WELLLL below where it should be. is this just a simple current adjustment? or is there a problem with the diode?

do these have the capabilities of being switched to CW?? (just the raw modules). i would be interested in seeing if you get a different reading on the laser if it is running CW and NOT modulated at all. (whether a 5V signal is applied or not).

i have noticed that with some lasers i test that even applying a 5V signal *SOMETIMES* still does not provide 100% maximum output. but in CW mode (no modulation) it lases like a bat outta hell!

i really think with some new dichros and your new scanner mirrors you will have a BAD ASS laser system on your hands! although i am not a big fan of pre-fab units, it seems like your over all happy. and thats all that counts! :)

This is the Swisslas 1 watt... this pix does not show it finished . Its a very nicely built unit.
I don't see any claim by Swisslas that this is a 1.2 watt job ??
That must come form the people selling it.

Its very nice but it ain't cheap !! You would have to love your bank manager to have a machine full of these beuties.

Well I just got back from a trip to find that after a a little communication they send me a new Red Module.

They offered to pay to have it shipped back and then express it back to me but I needed it for a NYE show and was a bit concerned about it getting stuck in customs so I opted for them to send the module.

It was pretty easy to replace and now I am seeing 1.26W from it. So it is just over Guaranteed power of 1.2W

I am very happy with the customer service I have received so far on this. I understand that things happen to products especially when shipped overseas.

I attached a few picture while I have it open so you can all see the layout. When I get it back together I will try to get some action shots.

I ordered som new dichros from Amanda at One Stop Laser Shop (She is Awesome if you ever need anything, I have worked with her for years on everything from old Melles unit repairs to scanners and optics)

I am going to put it all together with original optics first and take some measurements but I think you are right as Amanda said they were seeing less than a 1% drop with their optics.

Not sure about the CW on these Does not seem to be available just by looking but I may ask. I have seen the same results you mention with measurements on my 5W green though .

Actually, close, but no cigar..

They don't use a PBS.. They just stack them side by side.. This is to get around Arctos' patents I think..

Same applies to the RGB laser systems 1.7w RGB lasers..

Archos patented that? But isn't that something that is obvious because it was being done long before they ever did it.

More useful would be finding prior art. Might not be that hard. As soon as someone does it, that Arctos patent falls apart like wet paper.

That suggests that the Arctos patent WILL fall the moment someone demonstrates the obvious to those who decide these things. The only question seems to be 'does that also cost money, as the original patent did?' There is nothing in the Arctos patent that can't be reduced to mirrors and polarisation, both things well known in Newton's time. You can't patent the exact layout, there has to be more to it than that, as that lawyer describes. Arctos should never have been granted a patent at all, as far as I can tell, and I'd like to know why it happened, and how. I can't help thinking that a few firms could team up to pay for the court case or whatever hearing is required to overturn that patent, and wondering if the fact that they don't might be because they also have fragile patents they don't want disturbing in this kind of 'war'.

I hope the guy does take action and gets them sorted out once and for all. Ultimately it does us little favour as buyers to have lasers allegedly leaving the factory under power, and ultimately, it doesn't do Laserworld any good to be suffering bad publicity.

Personally, I don't think they're bad lasers as a whole. I'm quite impressed with mine apart from the cheap dichros and poor beam specs on the red. Rest of the laser seems good quality. But then again I got more than the stated power in mine so I probably have little to complain about.

The weight of evidence, not only from the reviewer but others, seems to support that there is some sort of scamming going on.

How do you say its a 1.5watt, then bury in the specs , well its really from 750mw to 1.5 watt... As an electronics tech I find this level of variation unbelievable.. There's always a small risk of variation and there will always be some variation in any specification...like 1.4w or 1.6w but this high ??

It doesn't do our Chinese friends any good either as they get linked into the bad rep. There are a few Chinese manufacturers trying to lift their game to a good level. Now it appears there is a European company deliberately misleading potential clients.
We can't blame the Chinese if some outfit is deliberately fitting low power units.. If I were Bridge I'd be fit to kill.... frustration man ..:mad::mad::mad:

The guy seems to be taking the fact that he's been ripped off very well.
But then again, I suspect that he was suspicious of LaserWorlds claims before he even ordered their underpowered crap.

I do hope that anyone considering purchasing from laserworld types LASERWORLD REVIEW into google and finds their way here.

Who knows, perhaps someone from LASERWORLD would even care to comment.
After all, if LASERWORLD continues to sell this rubbish then eventually they'll be brought to justice by the appropriate authorities.

OK , LaserWorld has been very good about communication and working to resolve the Red Problem. I now have a RED that meets the specifications that I bought the laser on and they sent it out in advance and then paid the shipping both ways on it. REALLY pretty good customer service from my experience with buying from overseas vendors (Which I do a great deal of on Lasers and LED Products)

I am Please with what I received for the Money I paid. Where else can I get 3.1W (After all optics and scan head ) for under $17K No other company came within $5k of that budget.
I bought the laser assuming I would get just the Min. power and got slightly over that so I am happy.

As far as being happy like with a bad product , I do not feel I have. I was very diligent about making the company meet the specs they told me and they did , What more do you want them to do??

I do not think these laser are for everyone and if I would have had the time I probably would have built the system myself. However when it is all said and done we all have to consider the VALUE (Amount paid for what you received)
I think the laser was a good value and that is my opinion.
Anyway my issues I feel are fully resolved with them and I will go away Happy.

I'd like them not to falsely advertise the specs of their products.
I'd like people who order a projector not to have immediate problems and have to chase Laserworld up to get them rectified when the item should be as described upon delivery.

I think one of the key points here is that you spent a LARGE amount of cash with them, so they are inclined to provide you with better customer service than the other people who have spent a fraction of what you did.

They do seem to think that they can advertise any spec they like, on the basis that you are paying cheap prices so can't expect a 'pro' product (I have increasingly angry emails from Martin Werner stating exactly that)

Who is the manufactory supply products to Laserworld? when Laserworld received it, they don't do any test of the lasers?
I don't want to remark about this lasers and projector manufactory,I only want to tell all there, Laser-wave will insist on supply quality products and best service they can do.
some company maybe strategy doing short time lasers and gain the first bucket gold, then do others, but laser-wave is seek long cooperation with all of our customers.

I believe most of the DPSS units are from CNI or someone who makes CNI lookalikes. I think that Laser World exploits the fact that CNI units are almost always overspec. Say they get a 400mW unit that puts out 500mW, they may say that it is a 500mW unit and sell it as such to make more money.

I guess I feel they have acted responsibly at least in my case and solved the issues as would any good company.
I also do not feel they "Falsely advertise the specs" as they were very clear to me on what the Guaranteed Specs would be. I agree it is a little misleading to list "Typical Specs" as the more prominent and they should change that.
As far as my problems as I mentioned they were all solved and I have had problem with other projectors when I first got them from suppliers as well as these are shipped overseas and gert banged around pretty hard sometimes.
