Beam specs please.
Whats the beam diamer on that puppy? =)
interesting !!!
the price is no problem, sadly the money is a problem here at the moment :\
And that is maybe the RED I looking for..
How about that beam spec, would it fit into a RGB scanner !?
beam specs
well, its a 650, so not great. but, not terrible.
~5mm at aperture.
<5mrad divergence.
it would fit an RGB nice. will have some spill over on your scanners obviously (unless you have bigger mirrors) but its a nice laser.
-Marc
That's standard for any 650nm high-powered diode laser due to the fact that they are multimode. When it's combined with green and blue in a projector the beam quality is not of much consequence, but the high divergence means that your beams will have red edges at a distance.
That laser would be perfect for aerial effects.... Lots of power and that deep 650nm red.... SHARP!!!
1W 650 would look good with about 250 of 473.
i would do just red in a set of scanners...are you open for trades?:D
hmmm...
could be. got a 40W 532 kickin around? :D
hhhhmmmm...may be if you had 40 of these:D
Pat, if you split the power from the Cobra and made a nice balance of red and green using one of the dye laser attachments, and then added this, you could get a awesome ROGY.
wow thats a pretty massive beam
yeah, its a 650. they're fat! :)
its bright and pretty though! thats for damn sure.
-Marc
ya, i think my next red is going to be 640 tho ;)
saving my pennies then going to shoot you some monies :)
640 is Saweeeet!!!
:p
bump.
no takers?
-Marc
You could split the beam in half, turn the polarisation with a waveplate and combine it with a PBS to make a smaller beam :D
Yeah, I guess you could do that, however it would be some random shape like a triangle or a narrow rectangle.
Fat - yes, but a beautifull blood red colour. :)
I just need some table tennis bat sized mirrors for my galvos so I can fit 2 of these suckers on there. :(
Though I'm now considering taking them out, sticking one in each of my RGYs and fitting a 1.2W 640 in my RGB
:::BUMP:::
i put it as a "special" on my site. anyone here want it??
-Marc
Well..I have 1W of 650 in my one of my projectors and it is actualy not that bad! In fact, not bad at all :D
I have 300mW of 650 in mine.. the beam definitely doesn't fit completely on the mirrors, but it is close enough for my taste. The fat beam isn't noticeable when the beam is flying around rapidly, especially when there are other colors involved. 650nm systems are cost-effective, and it really is a pure crimson red with no orange to it. Looks great in patterns that alternate between red and white.
The new 640nm systems with circular beams are pretty incredible, though.. if a bit expensive.
the beam is 5mm x ????
i havent actually measured it, but i would safely assume 5mm. it is more of a "square-ish" beam.
-Marc
I'd imagine 5mmx4mm would be about right. Here's a pic taken by FrothyChimp of the expanded output from a 650nm red multimode laser which shows the beam profile in detail:

I just wish I had the money :\
I think that red would fit perfect in a RGB scanner..
to the human eye, how would 1 watt of 650 compare to 300mw of 635nm in brightness
i would say 1W of 650 looks about the same as 500/635. so, compared to 300/635 it will be (IMO) noticeably brighter.
i dont know if those numbers work out in chroma or on charts or in mathematical spreadsheets, lol...i just know i have seen side by side a 1w/650 and a 500/635 and they were damn near identical. so my common sense is telling me that compared to 300/635 it *will* appear brighter.
-Marc
According to Tocket's Chroma application; 1 Watt of 650 has an apparent brightness of 73.1lm and 300mW of 635 has an apparent brightness of 44.47lm. IMHO 650 takes some beating for colour, it is a beautifull blood red colour.

Marc, consider this sold but I don't seem to be able to send PM's due to 503 errors at the moment.
hi norty-
yes i sent you a PM.
thanks.
