Look at this video... http://www.vlp-3d.de/ (~0:40)
Somebody asked me how to accomplish that effect with the single dots cruising around on the outlines of the word "coolux".
Any ideas how to do this in LD2000? :D

http://www.mirrorcletech.com/ I think these might be the "galvos" being used. Awesome vid!
Here is a direct link to the mirror demo

cool effect, to me the dots look like they belong to the video stream, and not part of the laser projection.
This could be done with the lasers, to me it looks like they are having the dots trace out the scanning pattern point-by point. Note how the movement slows down so much at the corners, right where more scanning points would be placed. Ironically I just described and asked for an effect like this for laserboy last night!
In LDS and Phoenix this particular effect can be done via 'path follow' where a dot frame is directed to follow the text frame.
Lightspeed design was the first that I know of to do this. They Mixed Laser with video a long time ago. Still very cool!

Same command in Pangolin's Showtime.
I think, but I'm not sure, based on the names on the website, your looking at a outgrowth of Lasergraph DSP.
If you have a video source, SMPTE timecode, or its HDTV equal, is read by the laser controller. Pangolin sells a SMPTE decoder for this sort of thing. SMPTE is a audio signal, so easy enough to use even with a VCR or PC video card.
Steve
Lasergraph DSP Already has SMPTE MIDI RS232 and DMX built inside and has time control software which controls sync with anything from ADAT to video projector. Anything that has ability to sync Lasergraph can control. It can sync music laser video projector and send a signal to DMX moving heads and fire up pyros.
I managed to get this effect working the way I wanted... *retardo

Don't tell us how you did it ...
...we're not interested at all !
O_o
Basically like described above by drlava, I just did it in Cinema4D.
The text is a simple spline text.
The Dots are spline circles with a radius of 1 and follow the different segments of the text spline via align to spline function.
But in the .ild end-result, are they incorporated as part of the line as a heap of points, or are they scanned on top of the line afterwards?
I prefer the former, as the latter contains a lot more blanking points and the dots may not be exactly on the line because of hysteresis.
/splittinghairs
No problem.
.lds-format okay?
top man
umm normal ilda? ive got an fb3 with livepro
Uh Oh !!
You may have opened the floodgates now. :p
Post an example .ild frame so folks can see how it's done.
those that dont ask dont get ;)
Check if this works for you...
ace looks really good.
the dots are very fast but i can slow it down not a problem.
many thanks
Damn that was fast !
The only thing wrong with it is that it you've spelt Soforene wrong.
:p
if you really are giving them out, I'd like a "FlannelBoy", and yeah, ilda format for those of us lowly fb3 owners.
ok thanks
jsut tryed on a projector and it looks awesome
Cheers decix.
What a bloody nice chap !!
;)
Hi,
Another way to do effect like this in LD2000:
1. made the path with number of point's enought to lock fine at scanner
2. made the copy of this path and add more points' (>2000) - so the path will be smothly
3. Make the frame with a dot in center (50points)
at all 3 frames
4. in ST2000
place 1 and 3 frame on parallel tracks
5. made effect Position 50:50:50 with moving by the trajectory from frame 2
This move one dot to 1 path
You can play with paths, adding more dots and tracks
That's all working fine
Nasty Nate in ild if its not to much trouble.. if so no worries.. really cool effect.
I can send sample files by e-mail for ST2000 in shs and lds format.
Please send me the message at LaserVR at mail.ru
Here ya go, Kosh.
Can you make a hobbybob in ILD as well ?
I'm surprised no one's asked for a Photonlexicon yet. :p
Where's your loyalty, folks?
unmodified "hobbybob" is >1100 points/frame.
unless you have 60k-scanners please don't ask for more than 10 chars
Wow thanks man you rock !!!!!
This is a late reply but I just realised this effect is already in QuickShow
Here you can find the effect: Open the quicktool QuickText, Scroll to the right on the already
made effects. At the end you will find the effect called "GOLD", this is the effect you want.
I have modified this effect to simulate the effect from the original video a little more.
You can open this file in QuickShow. The Speed, Color, Repeats ect. can be changed.
Close !
But no cigar.
The topicstarter clearly mentioned ;
Not, highlighted segments cruising around the outlines.Quote:
