My HeNe is now fully functional!
My sincere thanks to all of you who helped me in achieving a repair of my HeNe.
Earlier this week I took my laser to Rob and after removing the end-caps and confirming that both anode and cathode ballast resistors had approximately the correct value - (thanks Axxx at Melles Griot) Rob identified corona burn marks and flashover from the flexible foil electrode connected to the anode cap and the case - the foil electrode had become open circuit as well.
A small length of copper wire was pushed underneath the foil electrode and clipped under the anode cap clip, to hold it in place. Flashover still occurred but the inserting of a double thickness of heat shrink sleeving between the foil/inserted wire and the case stopped flashover ............... and there was that lovely little red dot of light on the wall!
My thanks to all of you who made input to solving my problem

That's another box ticked for Rob.
We need to see photos of the HeNe and that beutiful Red beam.
Have you got any holograms of your own to show us?
Carl
@Carl... John makes some *really* nice holograms. Keep an eye out for Ebay seller: johnxzv

Hi Carl - I've tried to put some pictures of my holograms on this site. I tried to set up a gallery of holograms but I can only find them in 'My Profile', so maybe you can't see them.
I find Photolexicon quite a complex site to work in and am frequently uncertain as to where I am as new boxes pop-up
As they say - preserverence!
