    Default Budget RGB Laser system

This is my first post and im not sure if i've posted this in the right place, but here we go.

I currently have a 200mW RGY Laser, (cheap mobile DJ market one, Prolight Equinox Aries) I have just brought an ilda interface and have been having some fun with animations and text etc..

Usual things happened, ive got bored of this one and want more!! i have recently rented an RGB (well RGV) laser to play with, was about 400mW and didn't seem very bright but still looked nice in a dark room. i've now decided that i want to buy an RGB laser for my roadshow and just wondered if anyone had any suggestions, im willing to spend up to £1,500.

I have been looking on e-bay but im a bit cautious of the supposed rated powers and scan speeds, tempted with some of the NRG lasers though, thought before i jump in and do something stupid i might consult some 'knowledgeable folk',

    sort of thing im considering:

    Any recommendations greatly appreciated,

Thanks for any help in advance,
    Alex

    hi,

NRG make good projectors, if you search the forum i did an honest review of their errr 400mw projector i think it was?

im soon to be getting their 1000mw RGB projector for review as well.

Gary (NRG) is a good chap and very honest, what he states about the projectors is what you get.

    cheers

This looks like good value http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NRG-800mW-PRO-...item19b9b2fd44

Comes with Pango FB3 & Quckshow, just swaps the 473 for a 405, you could upgrade to a 473 at a later date.

I would recommend going with an LKI LK-MC2. I have one, they cost about $1600US for an analog ~500mW system..

They use all CNI analog modules, so the quality of the laser sources is very good. The blue is true 473nm. My modules are all over spec in terms of output. The scanners are 30k (and mine actually do 30k). Nonadjustable dichro mounts, though, which is about the only drawback I've found so far.

Here's a pic of the interior of mine:

That looks exactly like what i want!! pangolin, above 500mW but under 1W and analogue modulation!!! think this could well be me sorted,

if i get this i am a bit concerned about the legality of using it for mobile use, under 1W still 3B? do i need to do MPE calculations etc..

    Under 1W can be 3B.
But that might be a bit of tinkering with words as you have to go quite a bit lower than the top end of 1W (in fact 50% lower to >0.5W ) to be classed as 3B.

More info about laser classes here.

You absolutely need to do MPE calculations.

For instance a 1mW laser with a 1mm^2 beam would exceed MPE by 10x, unlikely but a possibility at close range.

There are also other factors to consider, if you are going to audience scan for instance; you need to have a scan fail device installed.

Method statments, risk assessments, insurance, local council approval etc.
