It is actually possible to get blue from green with a dye pair through triplet-triplet annihilation. I've reproduced this work myself in the lab and it works beautifully: http://www.rsc.org/publishing/journa...p?doi=b905572j
All you need is the right dye pair in solution and it will happen magically. In this case DPA and a special fluorone triplet dye. The system is more like green > yellow > blue, though.
I picked up a new LBO heater and crystal yesterday. I stuck it in and I was able to get ~20mW at full blast with the Q-Switch at 5khz. I am thinking the temp may be off, I know it is NCPM LBO, so the peak should be between 150 and 170C for optimal performance. I need to spend a bit more time perfecting alignment and beam position.

I had seen a paper some weeks ago, but cannot find the PDF anymore
it depicted the use of a two-photon excitation scheme with a combination of two readily available dyes (as rhodamyne B or fluorescein) to obtain blue light with high efficiency, CW, if I remember well
here is the link to a subscriber site: Dye Laser Action by Two-Photon Excitation
For the people that don't have universities to buy papers for them, the paper posted by tocket didn't have any actual lasing, they shined a 50mw green laser pointer (yes it was referred to as a pointer in the paper) at their magic die mix and it glowed white; no effort was made to get the system lasing.
The second one I can't find anywhere, plus its written in Japanese...
In any case, have you inspected the rod ends? Perhaps they were damaged when the crystal got taken out?
It could also be that in your twiddling you aren't aligned with the q-switch anymore, can you confirm that the q-switch blanks the output?
sounds simple enough![]()

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt & selling it in a garage sale.
I have not inspected the rod ends, however the alignment beam going through it does not come out distorted or with any artifacts, leading me to believe that it is in good shape.
I have not moved the Q-Switch, but I don't think that it is all that critical in alignment, or am I wrong? I can test to see if it fully blanks it.
