Default CNI PSU-III-OEM - Does this look right to you?

    Hello there

I recently purchased 2 lasers from CNI and with them received 2 OEM-style PSUs, each tuned to power their respective laser module.

I'm constructing a projector (see here) and during this discovered something about the soldering on one of the PSUs, that doesn't look right to me.

Here are two pictures of the green module's PSU. Please look closely at the two 3-pin heat-sunk components and their soldering...

As you can see from the close up, the soldering appears clean and well separated.

Here are two pictures of the red module's PSU...

As you can see from the close up, the solder on the right-hand component appears to have flowed during manufacture to link the two pins.

Not being an electronics expert, I'm not sure what the implications of this are and whether this should be ignored, repaired, sent back to CNI etc.

I have also just emailed CNI to ask them their opinion.

    Any comments or advice welcome

    Cheers,
    Tony

    Default Reply from CNI

I received the following reply from CNI:

"There is no problem on power supply, please dont worry about it."

    OK, I won't then
