Another day of theory, but I managed to find a nice trafo coil for my +/- 15V PSU.
-And my teacher surprised me by donating an old relicI think I'll try to make use of the chassis, just for the awesome retro look! (and of course, we're going to fire it up before I harvest the useful parts from it)
There will probably be a nice little HeNe in that LD.

anyway, laserdisc decks sell very well on ebay if they are operating properly... you might be able to fund a cheap galvo set if you sell several
I wouldnt call today a day for the laser project, but i still managed to get some progress done in the scavenging-department
Pulled the final guts from the pick and place-setup, getting me a rackmount for the modules which might be useful for something, and a monstrous linear PSU (massive coils and 2x 22000uF caps) producing a nice 24V 10A. -Also found some more thick alu slabs, an old computer psu and another 12V dc psu from some old pneumatics controller.
Did some research on the modules pulled from the "picker", and found out that there's three perfect setups of L6203 (Dmos, Cmos, Bipolar full bridge driver supporting all logic inputs) + L6505 (current controller) specifically designed for precision operation of microstep motors. -I think I'll work more on the galvos after I've tried these babies out
Maybe I'll end up making a stepper projector, selling it, and getting some more serious toys for the cash I get ^^

Another day of building, however not the laser. Had to finish up another project in school, where I rightfully claimed that I could make an "eco-fan" for 1/5 of the price claimed by retailers. It's really simple, just a 5v brushless dc motor hooked up to a tec, mounted on a suitable stand that leads heat to the peltier, thus driving the fan motor. I'll add a pic of it tomorrow.
Today I concluded that the folks at my school has NO CLUE about what certain materials are worth (much to my advantage). They told me about "some stuff that was going to be tossed" and I promptly went to investigate.
I figure I have "made" at least 500us$ in projector raw materials today by claiming this completely awesome 20mm thick slab of alu! Guess whos' making a bunch of breadboards?
Red lines = will be cut here:
Oh, and the monitor foot in the upper right corner will be used to hold a separate liquid sky projector.
I've been doing a lot of research on the stepper circuit and the motors i have available, and I think I'm going to get it working just fine. The step increments can be microstepped to 0.018 degrees/step without a problem with chopping enable and fast decay mode, controlled in a current peak detection mode which will ensure a smoooooth scan and pretty damn fast as well as the chip combo I'll be using is funneling a whopping max of 51v 5A DC!

Boards cut, now I just have to drill and tap a gazillion holes...
Cutting these suckers took about 90 minutes. Damn hard alu
The big one measures 620x400x20mm![]()
I had totally forgotten about this old 1,5kW friend that's been sitting in my storage for a few years. Looks useful now! I dont have a clue as to what it's original name was, looks a lot like an oversized corr amp to me tho...?
