You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

Well.... they approved a "product report". What we don't know, is what the report said.

CDRH actually contradict themselves in this report - http://www.fda.gov/downloads/Medical.../UCM095304.pdf

In one section it says (page 8) a class 4 requires a beam attenuator (mechanical or electrical) that can't be power switches or key controls that blocks bodily access to above class 1 radiation. (Although, alternate means of protection may be approved.) By the same token their table near the end of the document doesn't have a beam attenuator listed as being required on class 4.

If you certify your product per IEC whatever whatever whatever (dont remember the code numbers) Than a shutter is NOT required.

If you certify the product per FDA 21CFR there are still PLENTY of approvals (mine included) that does not require a shutter.

Beam attenuation and/or beam extermination is ALWAYS available remotely with laser operator these days. (escape key, power off, DMX off, remote power control, Remote output control...etc) Shutters were more of an ION safety necessity. Ions you couldnt simply shut the beam/laser off.
