Default Museum Laser Show Advice Needed

Hello everyone. There is a museum close to my campus that has asked me to do some shows for a few of their parties, the biggest being their annual Christmas party. The problem is they want beam effects in their grand parlor which is full of priceless antiques. Furniture, statues, rugs, etc. from the early 1800s. The man in charge is worried that the fog could potentially damage some of the articles in the Museum. Is this a possibility? If so, is there an alternative that would be safe to use? I wasn't sure, so I told him that I would ask some people that have expertise in this area. Hope someone on the forum can help me out! Thanks.

BTW, I will definitely take pictures of this one. I will be projecting on a large domed ceiling over the party guests as they eat and mingle.

    Laser show + historical mansion/ museum= AWESOME

    hhm, OK well.

First do you have a 'fogger' or a oil based hazer?

I would use a hazer. A good one like a df50 or a mdg atmospheres. Tell them you are using a food grade mineral oil and that the particulate size is on the order of .05 to .07um and that you will probally use 1/2 an ounce for the entire event. You can also probably add that normal environmental debris is already happening 24.7 and that your contribution is negligible. Also this has been used for 50 years in the lighting biz and has been developed to make the most particulate with leaving the least amount of residue.

That being said remind them that they can't get beams without a particulate matter in the air.

p.s. most of it will be sucked up in the hvac any way.

Hey, thanks for the response. I just need to phrase that in a way that they can easily understand and hope for the best. If they are not willing to budge on the fog/haze deal, I will just do graphics. I can already hear him freaking out when I mention mineral oil based haze solution though. His first thoughts will probably be something about oil getting on the antiques. I know it wont really be a noticeable amount, but I have to try to explain that to him. It is harder to explain than you might think because his knowledge base is confined to history only, he is out of the loop when it comes to technology.

for the amount that he will be using for the one night it won't matter. I don't think that the person would be any happier hearing that it is glycerin or glycol.

He just needs to let him know it will be fine for a night. happens all the time.

Yeah, I don't think it will damage anything either, I just wanted to make sure. The last thing I wanna do is replace priceless articles in a museum. BTW, I don't have a haze machine, I can rent one, but before I do, if anybody has a used one they want to cash in, I might be interested .

I would try to rent a nice one. a DF-50 or preferentially a mdg. tell them you rented it form a theater company.

And remember to put it in the intakes, so it gets distributed.

You need to have a small talk with the maint guy, not the museum director...

    how big is the room?

You could try and sell it on the idea that the actual HAZER will only be on for 30 mins , just long enough for the initial WOW , check out those beams effect and then move on to graphics
