    Default Red question

So, my projector is using a 250mW 650nm and it is clearly too weak. I have a choice here, meaning, both are similarly priced.

    Should I get:

    800mW 650nm (no name) analog
    or
    300mW 635nm CNI analog

Both are about the same price, the 635nm is about $30 cheaper, but the output is lower. For color balance, would the deeper red be better or should I go with the aparent brightness of 635? for the Green and blue, I am running 130+mW of 473nm and 90+mW of 532nm.

You can see below, the beam is clearly blue/green heavy.

I don't know what your budget is (drop me a PM if you like) but I have a Laserwave 650nm 1watt head (doing 1.1w) with about 30 hours on it, bought from Marc around Xmas that is going to be surplus to requirements very shortly. Might be just what you're looking for if considering a 650nm laser.

The 650nm at that power should appear about 15 - 20% brighter than the 635.

I am a fan of 650 red, I think it gives a fantastic colour gamut and by itself it is redder than red.

Either way you'll probably have a fat beam, no good for graphics but not an issue for beam shows.

    Default Thanks

Thanks for the prompt replies gentlemen. I do like the look of 650nm, myself. I may go with that or maybe see what norty would allow me to offer.

    Sent PM btw, norty.

I figured that would be way off! Thanks for the offer!

Looks like I will get the 800mW deal. Good feedback on seller so, that is a plus. Pics to come when I get the projector upgraded. Thanks, all, for your help!

    Hi,

In my opinion you would have a good color balance if you bought a 500 mW red 650 nm laser. Buying a red laser with higher power 800 mw is overkill and If you have a laser controller where you can't adjust the power level for proper color balance the combined output will be on the red side instead of the blue side as it stands now.If you still buy the 800 mW red 650 nm laser then there are ways to compensate for the extra red power imbalance. If you have a Pangolin laser controller then you won't have any problems adjusting color balance. If your laser controller doesn't allow a laser power adjustment then you can try adding an attenuator in front of your red laser to drop the power output (neutral density filter) or add a beam splitter and use that extra beam for some other special effects, maybe a lumia wheel/ beam show port on your laser projector. Good luck in any case and play safe.
