    Default Got Boffin?

Does your company/institution suffer from a need for a analog/systems person? Are you constantly running out to the production line or lab to make adjustments, when you have better things to do? Do you worry, day after day, because your existing staff looks at your equipment, shakes their head, and get the deer in the headlights look of total bewilderment? Do you get frustrated every time you need to train someone? Do you often have the feeling things could run better?

Do you need someone who looks at the whole picture and has the tenacity to stay after hours, order a pizza, and have at it, till things work? Do you need someone who can go to the library, make calls, and come back with a honest assessment of a product or process? Do you need a team player who will go to the mat for his coworkers?

If you need such a person, Give me a call. My name is O. Steven Roberts, and I'm hunting for a position, where I feel needed. I have a extensive background in applied technology and education. I have skills in materials characterization, energetic materials, and photonics. From direct current to 10 Ghz, I have a proven track record in applied technology. I have a proven track record in getting processes running from scratch. I'm used to working with dangerous materials and very expensive gear.

I have strong skills in locating obsolete or outdated materials to keep systems running. And I have patience. I'm more loyal then most bird dogs.

There are some things I can not do. I cannot break the laws of physics. I cannot create huge amounts of energy where none was before. I've yet to find a way to concentrate energy in spot sizes well below the diffraction limit, at long distances.

My requirements are simple, a decent salary, basic health care, and a warm place with friendly people. The salary must exceed the cost of living in the area by a decent margin. The desired location should have decent to above average libraries, a fair amount of single women, and cultural events. Hilly terrain a major plus. Occasional time spent traveling, airborne, or shipborne, a plus as well. I prefer not to work on systems that kill people, but I will gladly work on things that protect our nation. And if your facility is a room full of quiet introverts, or full of people who will learn the technology, and then take it overseas, to use against the US in trade or war, please do not call.

    Thank You for your time,

    Steve Roberts

We don't have any vacancies that meet your skill set, but if we did I would employ you Steve.

You need to place this in a trade magazine, I'm sure somebody will respond.

Sincere good luck and best wishes from the east side of the pond.

I truly believe that for the next 10 years this is what employers need to look at very closely. Very few companies right now are upgrading their equipment and with the lending crunch probably won't for many years. The people that are going to save their asses are people like You. I will keep my ears open for anything that you might be interested in. Good Luck in the hunt I’m sure something better is in your future.

    Huntsville, AL -
Reminds me enough of parts of East Tenneessee that I don't mind living here!
(albeit part-time with my current odd home arrangement! )

Even though NASA is having issues, Redstone Arsenal is going strong.
Ground breaking is scheduled later in the year for another mega-million research and office complex.
Thanks to BRAC, Redstone Arsenal is becoming THE R&D center for Army Aviation, missile defense, unmanned aerial vehicles, systems sustainment, new technologies, etc., etc.
Plenty of opportunities in civilian & government - just gotta' get a foot in the door & be willing to play the game.

Local TV station (one of several) -
A lot of defense-related contractors advertise on their job link portion of their web site:

Give me a shout if something looks interesting & I'll be glad to make inquiries...
