ok ive recently heard of pulling the diode out of a x-box or ps3 and using the violet for projected displays. to the tune of 100mw or more of a nice purple. can some one point me to the thread that tells how this is done( power supply etc.)?pleeeeeze?

    Hi Spanqee,

For information about diode extraction from CD/BD rom drives, visit Laserpointer forums.

Then head back here for information on using it

You can buy the sleds with the laser diodes in them, so that you don't need to tear apart a whole player. The PS3 diode will not yield anywhere near 100mW, more like 30mW TOPS. The x-box 360 HD-DVD addon drive will yield about 100mW.

look up PHR-803T on www.laserpointerforums.com, there are better diodes available now, but not as cheap.

If you need ~ 500 mW of 405 BluRay, You will need a 12x diode harvest. They focus to a pinpoint and the CD drive costs about $200. DrLava's driver, at 460 mA should give you 560 to 650 mW depending on the diode you get.

Plextor PX-B940SA or Pioneer BDR-205 are the two 12x burners I know of. The Pioneer is the cheaper of the two. I just bought 2 for $199 each on Ebay with free shipping. Plextor is about $250 each.

are you talking @ a half watt of violet from the 12x bluray burner diodes? seriously ? thats far better than the 100mw from the other burners diodes.(may actually be able to compete with the 150-200 mw from our dpss green)so is it possible to obtain just the diode without the rest of the disk burner?

also as an afterthought i just want to say thanx to all here at the PL forum. this has been a priceless resource for info. i just had a eureka moment today with a problem that has plagued me for months and months. turns out the reason only 1 of our comps would run the scanners proper was it had c-media drivers already installed, but still only 2ch out
so we were only able to use ld1k and lasermax(both softs lack color and blanking). it was absolutely driving me nutz trying to figure out why a 'puter w/only 400mb of memory and a p.o.s. onboard soundcard was working better than a brand new unit with an addon soundblaster platinum and 1gb memory. ... abtholutely nut'th i thay!!
    again,
    THANX SOOOO MUCH

P.S. omg omg omg we just booked the gig of a lifetime stay tuned for details

400mw - 500mw of 405nm from the 12x burner. As far as I know the only way to get those diodes now is to buy the burner and harvest the diodes from it.
