Default Where to get the cheapest STRONGEST red laser ?!?!

    The topic says it all

Where can i find the best RED laser ?
I dont want to pay more than 40-100$ so i not talking about a 1000dollar 3watt laser module..

Only a cheap STRONG red diode laser 30-100mW

I notice they sell some small laser modules at eBay ..
But they all say "dont let you fool, THIS is the stronges red laser to get" !
So.. do YOU got any experience with red lasers ( 30-100mW ) i want to know..

    Thanx

    Things to keep in mind:
635nm looks MUCH brighter than 650, than 670nm... Etc...
My recommendation is that the 635 will be more expensive but still brighter. Something else is that you probably won't find a pointer specifically but you MIGHT find the brass fitting, diode and driverboard is a "module" and you'd have to get a case to hold it all in. I have a suspicion that the leadlight modules would work PERFECT for that

Anyway, I'll look around for a manafacturer and see if I can find something for you

I was thinking about gutting a 16x dvd burner, for some reason I thought they used 100mW red units...

i got a DVD burner.. but i dont think that laser is easy to use as a red laser ...
The beam is small and tight and then i need correct power and bla bla bla...

The DVD recorder is more expencive than a red laser anyway

Ah.. i forgot to say, i dont need a red laser pointer !!
Only a laser module\chip\pen whatever.. to use for show

I just ordered one of Abelands 635s to play with, I hear you can get 15mw from them with a simple pot mod. I have several red modules but none I am proud of, I have also been looking for a good cheap red device in the 30mw+ range.

    I know Sony have a part SLD1332V 670nm 500mW 9mm

How about mounting one of these on a 105 driver board ?

    Just an idea

Be sure to post results when you try the 635 pot mod. But keep in mind that if you do get any real increase in power output, it will not be able to run but a couple of seconds. If you see the power drop rapidly, LET GO THE BUTTON. Even so, you may only get a higher output one time before you damage the diode.

Me also looking for a 635 diode, 20mw or more under 100 USD. Best I can do under 100 bucks is 15mw for around $70.

How much is that 500mw sony ? You may be better off with a 660nm. I think these can be found at around $1 per mw in the 50-150mw range. And they look brighter.

And dont run a expensive diode on a 5 dollar driver from a 105.

Don't the new wave DVD's have a blue laser? write more onto a disk.....

I seen this place on FFF a while back www.mfgcn.com

If it exists, we can get it!!

I think someone on FFF ordered a 100mW module and paid $155.

    They do...But expensive.
You will find at least a RED one in the DVD recorders..
Players only have the 5mw red ones..so get a recorder..
However..you wont have any choice of packaging...at least not the diode package you will expect...
they now have both IR and Red combined in some of them...
And also be cafeful as most are only rated for pulse operation..Dont look so good for lasershow apps.
    Been there..done that..
But , Thanks to these recorders..diodes are gettin cheaper

I got tired of playing around with other people's red lasers..
Tried those for the site posted above...you pay cheap-you get cheap
    then they blow-up....
    Soooo...I build my own now...
I know a few people have requested red modules on our site and in so ..
    decided to start building them..
one of the 80mW 655nm Red modules...so far I get about 88mW out of it and another does 80mW...very stable.
Just today , I took them to a friends house and made a few holograms , so I know they are great.
I put one on ebay as a feeler.

edit...as of 4-12-05 I have found we have been under-driving these considerably,,..
and I am able to make realibly 100mw modules now
