    Welcome to the forum Aidan!

    Laserbug got you too ehh?

Looking at your current hardware, I have to ask, Where did you located a 270mW? I have a hard time finding working 60x heads, much less hot/new refurbs!

Another question: Which DAC system did you order?

    Im full of questions today

Speak to you in a bit!

    Hay!

It was a local company. Lasertech.uk.com.

Cost quite a bit, very low hours.

    About 270mw @ 10a
    About 340mw @ 12a

Is what it was out putting when i got it a few weeks ago. Still building the power supply at the mo.

On the plus side scanners coming this week!

Im very new to all this.
    Regards,

    Aidan

Hi, and welcome to to the forums...

There is NO such thing as a dumb question.

Hope you like it here...hang your hat there at the foyer...

You asked what DAC is....it's an acronym for Digital Analog Converter.

Enjoy your stay, and if you need anything, the fellas here will be more than glad to help you out!

Just put yer token in the slot at the end of the game.

Nevermind...my version of humor at work there.

Hey Kcar! Havent seen you in a while.

Aidan: DAC is digital to analog converter. For "our" intensive purposes it converts computer signal to an analog signal used to drive the scanners.

Some companies that produce these things are:
    www.pangolin.com
    www.laserillusions.com
    http://www.boxlaser.com
and my new personal favorite, Yadda's Ghettolaze gen 2 Check out the laser show section here for info on that sexy beast.

Thats what I was asking about when I saw your post saying "Control console was in the mail"

See ya around guy! Love your webpage designs!

    Default DAC

Ahhhhh i see! Thanks for that.

Its a control desk. Laser Systems Maestro. Lots of buttons with patterns pre programmed. Its very old and I will have 2 spend a few hours playing with it.

I do want some software so I can start to make the exact patters \ shows I want.

What do you recommend as a basic software package \ Interface?

Currently the console just plugs in to the driver board by a 25pin connector, Which also provides the scanners with power.

If i got a software package how easy is it going to be to interface it to the driver board?

Also (sorry about this, Questions Questions Questions!), How do you align your laser to your scanners? My scanners are mounted on a wooden frame type thing and im having a bitch of a time trying to get the laser head (DPSS) aligned to the scanners perfectly. I keep getting bit of the beam go out of the scan sometimes because the beam isn’t set right on the first mirror. The head is currently on 4 DVD cases and a CD to *try* and get the head the right height and position. And I keep trying to align it properly but to be perfectly honest im scared to shoot myself in the eye!

    Any ideas?

By the way I have looked at all your images, Yadd`s pictures are awesome! Where do you get all your money for the CT scanners! I sit here drooling over them!

Spec : Thanks, I had a friend make it for me, i cant clame the credit for that 1!

    Thanks,
    Regards,

    Aidan

Welcome aboard! Maestro eh? That's a blast from the past

Post some pics of it and the circuit board! We may be able to jury-rig it into this
century yet... If it's the model I'm thinking of, those are open-loop scanners, so
it won't give you the crisp corners you're dreaming of unless you "pull" points
when you design your frames... Basically you're looking at tapping into
some traces in the circuit inside the control board to get it to take external
signals... If you're lucky, some of the later units did take external input.

In terms of mounts that don't shift... Here's my "ghetto" $5 recommendation.
Bolt the scanners and laser down. Then take apart one of those $5
"helping hands with magnifier" and using silicone glue (The fishtank stuff)
mount a front surface mirror to each of the "hands"... Then after you clamp/bolt
the base down to the board... you can adjust the beam path by adjusting the
hands... When you tighten down the clamps, it won't shift on you. I also like
using some haze while aligning lasers to avoid stray beams...

    Default Ahh

    Thanks Yadda.

I will be getting some CTs at some stage after having a chat with spec. As the quotes i seem to be getting are rither high.

Haze is a good idea to! I shal have another try at the weekend.

    Thanks for the help.
