Don't forget to choose the collimator with blue AR coating for this diode.
The collimator will work perfect with this diode, only you will end u with a rectangular beam profile.
You could add two prisms to shape the beam like RGB lasersystems does.
It seems to me that in the best case these diodes will have the same fat beam diameter and high divergence that many of the multimode 650nm red systems we see around here exhibit. Based on my experience with multimode diodes, a setup without anamorphic prisms or at least a cylinder/GRIN lens to go with the aspheric lens will produce a fairly wide, flat and highly divergent rectangular beam whose characteristics would be pretty undesirable compared to a multimode setup that is properly collimated.

Maybe so, but when I went to checkout after I had selected the items your site added 200 euro for shipping, maybe something you need to look into

nope, as dave said, you only need an aspheric. I mean, we would know, we have 3 nichias (2 500mw, and a 1 watt).
we have achieved way better beam specs than wide stripe reds, with only an aspheric lense. They are definitely not round beams, but they certainly aren't flashlights.
All this hoo haa about big stripe reds is crap really. Especially if you're prime application is audience scanning. We use a few of them, including 2 watts of 635nm in our 4 watt RGB, and it looks fine, and is safer, and unless you're specifically trying to do graphics a long way away, is not really an issue.

Wasn't trying to question your expertise.. easy now. There's no denying that there are ways to improve on beam quality when using multimode diodes, especially those without FAC. That's all I'm saying. You could even couple into fiber and get a perfectly circular flat-top profile, and you'd only need a very short piece of fiber to do it. If you're not doing crowd scanning, a nice symmetrical beam with the lowest possible divergence might be desirable. Also, power loss past the galvo mirrors is an issue for some folks.
Given that your application includes crowd scanning, higher divergence is better without a doubt. Would you be willing to post some profile pics here near and far field with some size references? I and others here don't have experience with these new blue diodes, so really I'm only speaking of what I know about red and IR diodes. It would be cool to see what can be done with an aspheric, especially if the end result is a comparatively good quality beam..
